I'll be spending the superbowl.. umm.. the first part, probably getting ready for school, which starts in about 36 hours, or less, and I have to get ready. I'll probably be in bed by the time it ends. I want to wake up early, so I can go online before the rush. (9am-5pm ET, when all the North Americans and Europeans are online at the same time)

I don't like the superbowl so I'll be around here on ST all day! I never really liked football, it has always been boring to me. I really son't get the point of starting over when the ball hits the ground. Get rid of that rule, and I'd probably watch just to see people start clocking each other for the ball.

@Voar Tok: Large plate of french fries served. When the U.S. National Anthem was murdered by the singer I lost interest. Why, oh why, do the Americans disrespect their anthem so often with people who can't sing their way out of a paper bag, let alone do a proper job of the very difficult Oh Say, Can You See? It can be one of the most beautiful and patriotic anthems of the whole bunch, and people are always murdering it. Jazzy renditions are not the thing for a proper public performance at a national event.

@Eastwinn: Football played your way wouldn't allow for all the commercial interruptions that the TV people know and love. Frankly, U.S. Football turns me off. I like CFL Football, which is similar but better. I also like soccer (European football or calice), rugger, and field lacrosse. The Super Bowl pageant is just an excuse by American Football to extend the season to bleed the people for more dough. Canadian football ends in November.

Luckily, my town doesn't really have any murders. We had a vehicular manslaughter not too long ago, when someone's designated driver drove through a crowd of people outside one of the town bars *hit four people-one later died*. Otherwise, out last true murder was in 1990. Unfortunately, they didn't realise it was a murder until they discovered her remains at the U-Store-It on the edge of town in 03', and spent a year tracking down her ex. Not too shabby for a town of 6,000.

I only watch the Superbowl for the commercials. If you're paying 2.5 million dollars (3.2 million Canadian dollars p'raps, or 1.4 million pounds) for 30 seconds of air time, it had better be worth it.

Hmmm, I'm in the mood for a caesar with balsamic. Since half the people in the U.S. are pigging out right now.

I ate four chunks (each about 5x3 centimeters) of filet minon (I think I spelled that wrong) on Super Bowl Sunday, and some onions and soup. Not much else.

^ Lucky. All I got was 2 fried chicken breasts (I made them myself, so they were burnt on the outside, almost raw on the inside44.gif) and a handfull of chips. I'm running low on peach juice. After that is cold water. Oh well.

School starts in 6 hours, exaclty. I'm going to take a 3 hour nap (I woke up at 9pm, so..) so if I don't come back here by 7am uh oh..

    Ooo... pearl jam... *listens*

What school? I'm staying home today as there is no reason to go to school, same for everybody else in town, including the teachers.

Well, it is the day after the Superbowl, and many people are taking the day off. Some people have the day off anyways because of the snow. Giggle. Wiarton, home of that prevaricaing groundhog, Wiarton Willie, got 41 cm of snow yesterday and more today. We have a light dusting of about 5 - 10 cm. here, but we are in a bight between two ski areas (Collinwood/Blue Mountain and Midland/Penetaguishene). The ski areas got a nice heavy snow fall, up to 50 cm (20 inches). Here we had highways closed by white-outs. The winds are NW 30-50 mph (50-80 Kph). The main commuter routes in/out of town were closed by the OPP, namely country roads 92, 124, and airport road (Highway 26 extended from Stayner). Most people were unable to get to work today. Forecast is for more of the same until the weekend at least. I had to cancel my appointment with the vet today for Andy's annual shots.

@N_O_Body : 41 cm!? 50 cm!? 5-10 cm!?!? Lucky you! Down here  (Niagara-area) we only got about 3 cm, and it was gone within minutes. Now we're stuck with random flurries which just gets annoying, and muddy grass. It wouldn't matter though... our school board never cancells school, even if it's freezing rain. The last time they cancelled it was 2 years ago, because they had to close the QEW and half of the teachers couldn't get to school. Of course, 50% of the students (myself included) were already at school, and had to wait an hour for the schoo busses to come back and bring us home 30.gif

I started my second semester today, and it's really, really, really hard. Does anyone have any tips?

Here are my courses (in order):

    Per 1: SCH3U (chemistry)
Per 2: Lunch (breakfast... our school only has a small cafeteria, resulting in 3 lunches, the first being at  9:25 am)
    Per 3: SPH 3U (phsics)
    Per 4: MCR3U (math)
    Per 5: FSF3U: (french)

All U courses, though. I got

ENG4C English 12 (full of stoners and kids retaking the classe for the 2nd, 3rd, in one case 4th time. At least she didnt just drop right out.)
MAP4C Math 12 (apprenticeship.workforce level) (also full of less-intelligent people.. oh well.)
    lunch
T??4M Animation 12 (dont like animation anymore, Im prolly going to get an appointment to change it.. or not)
and some other class, history, the West and the world, europe 1400-1945, it seems interesting, and its a small class.

Not too bad. I got 88% in geography, which surprised me.. I tried to talk to the teacher about it but he wouldnt..41.gif

    It was an okay day.

The weather here is amazing. 36 in two days. 18 more in Jefferson County NY. That's a grand total of about 54, or 4'6, 137 cm. Winter has come back with a vengence. And 40 mph (64 kph) winds.

I wonder if Leech lives in the Dacks'. I know a good portion of their schools were closed today because of that weather.

@ mattc005: I grew up in Niagara Falls, so I know where you are at. I graduated in 1955 from NFCVI, and I have no idea what the course content is now. I hope you can keep awake in physics after lunch. At Queen's I had Mechanical Drawing in first year right after lunch...snore! That doesn't seem like very many courses. How long are your periods? Is there a long lab for each of the sciences?

Minster OH, you may need a map to find it as it is a small town.

    Dacks?
quote> I think he means Adirondacks.

@ dev: Welcome back. A loud growl is emitted by the autochef...An old boot slathered with A1 sauce with a side of fries is served with a warm glass of gatorade. Dev, I think you've upset the autochef. Filet is only served sangant (blue), a point (rare), or cuit (medium rare). I wouldn't drink that stuff, it is probably poisoned.

That's correct N_O_Body. 'Dacks is just a term used locally because goodness knows we're too lazy to say four syllables when we can shorten it to one. Some other examples include the city of Syracuse being referred to as the 'Cuse and Rochester being called Roch (Ra-che).

1955! Gasp! My parents weren't even alive in 1955! I'm sure you have great stories to tell if you're that far in years N_O_Body.

sangant....makes me think of sanguine...latin for blood.

I'm actually impressed with the city of Syracuse down the highway. They just approved a sixteen-story convention centre hotel, the first new tall building (8+ floors) since 1983. And the first new building downtown since the New Justice Centre three years ago. http://news10now.com/content/top_stories/default.asp?ArID=58584
That site carries a picture of the top portion of the hotel. It'll be exciting to drive down and watch it go up this summer.

The autosystem recognizes the zuke's need, and delivers up a completely cooked roast suckling pig. You see, we only insist on fine cuts being served properly. We never burn steaks.

@ brancra: Yup, 1955 was a very good year. I guess that makes me old enough to be your grandpa. I was born between the battles of the the World War in 1937, just as King George VI came to the throne. So I wasn't old enough to be at Normandy (my dad was in England with the RCA Service Corps) nor out of school in time for Korea (thank God) where some of my best friends were wounded and/or killed. Since then, we have had five decades of peace. Sangant (blue rare - cold red center) is French for bloody. I mentioned the cooking levels for steaks in France. Beyond that it is considered brul

You got me on that one.  I don't understand it either.  Some people take forever to sing it, while others add all sorts of notes that weren't even there.  FYI our national anthem was actually a four stanza (I think that was the number) poem.  It didn't get music until later.

@Shadow_Assassin: Yes, it is actually a custard with a bottom of carmelized sugar, served inverted, usually with orange zest. Served as requested Enjoy.

@ Voar Tok: Got it right. A little web research shows that the poem was On the Defense of Fort Henry by Francis Scott Key. It was later set to the tune of To Anacreon in Heaven. Amazing what is on the web for us Canadians to find out about the exited states. Howcum I feel more patriotic for your country than many of you do? I am even more patriotic about Canada, but that's my bag.

@Leech10: A well done (crispy) pork steak is served to the zuke. If you want to burn a cow, catch it yourself.

@ N_O_Body: I don't know NFCVI is, and the problem will be staying awake in chemistry... our teacher is 100% monotone... we come in, he'll say 4 words, turn his back, and write on the board for the rest of class.

My periods are 77 minutes long each, starting starting at 7:58 in the morning. (don't ask why the times are so precise.) I think 4 courses per semester is the ontario standard, but i'm not sure.

What do you mean by a long lab? I know we're doing 13 for chemistry and 10 for physics thoughout the year, but they only take an hour to write up (intro, a chart/diagrams, short analysis, maybe 3 questions, conclusion, sources of error... 3 pages max typed double-spaced)

N_O_Body, if you tack on another decade you'd be my grandmother's age, to be honest.

@ Voar Tok: I only found that out last year! I was looking something up for a history course when I came across a copy of the four stanzas of the National Anthem, and I remember thinking Why haven't I ever seen these before?! It's because no one would memorize it, so just pretend they're not there.

The restaurant I work in specializes in steaks. A.k.a. a steakhouse. I usually let people decide how to cook their steaks by this nifty chart we use, but then there's always the bring the steer out and I'll tear off a hunk comment. The more raw a steak is, the larger grimace I give people. It's actually a running joke that when someone order's the very rare steak, I have to ask Are you sure? It literally bleeds onto the plate sir. Anything below medium well tends to gross me out. Strange, had I not worked there I'd probably never bothered to learn the different preps of steaks.

And then you have people who are never satisfied with the way their steak's cooked. For example:
Erin [manager], Mr. Duvall just bought the medium well steak again.
        You showed him the chart?
        Yes.
You explained the colour and temp to him?
        Yes.
You told him that there was a different head cook tonight?
        Yes.
        Then what's wrong?
Well, uh, he wants to watch Jeff [head cook] grill it. He says he doesn't trust us after we gave him three steaks last time and he said they were all messed up. Mind if I ask one more question?
        Sure, what?
Can we eat the steaks he doesn't eat? I mean, he never even bites into them, and it's a shame to waste them, and it's not like we contaminate each other...
        Knock yourself out.

Notably, when Mr. Duvall comes in, it's a free dinner night for the staff. And the best part, we don't even do it on purpose.
