Date: 1/26/2006 6:52:33 PM Author: N_O_Body @Voar Tok:  Yes, virtual simoleons are easy money, eh?  What is Blitz Basic?  How close is it to the other BASIC languages?  Later:  I thought that until sometime in the 1920's U.S. Senators were appointed by the state governors (in council).  Electing those guys really put the boots to a lot of states rights.  I really don't think having senators elected in Canada will work, because the current appointment is until death or age 75 whichever comes first.  A regular election cycle for these guys is repugnant.  We need an old boys club.
quote>
Blitz Basic is a programming language that was designed with gaming in mind.  The name is actually a misnomer, as it was developed by a man that had nothing to do with the BASIC programming languages.  I assume that it gots its name because it is relatively similar, and a good BASIC programmer could make the transition to this language very easily.  I have one of the free versions that you can download on the web, but it doesn't make .exe files, so anyone who doesn't have the compiler can't use it.  In fact, I can't email the program to anyone because Yahoo's antivirus system either blocks the attachment or turns the code into virtual hamburger on the other end.

The advantage of Blitz Basic over other programming languages is that you can easily master the language in a week.  I learned just about everything that a person needs to know to make a decent 90s quality game in two days.  I basically remade Asteriods in a 16-hour day.  The only thing that I can't seem to get working is the screenshot features.  For some reason, I can't get the computer to differentiate between the proper buffers.  The thing technically works, but it doesn't save the buffer like it is supposed to.  The funny part though, is that the code is identical to some of the sample code that was used in the book, and when I contacted the guy that wrote the book, he said that everything should work just fine.  I've narrowed it down to interfence between other programs on my computer, but I haven't figured out which one(s) it is yet.34.gif

You were right about the method that US Senators used to be selected by.  I thought that it was the other way, but after checking out an old history textbook, it proved me wrong.

It is a bomb, it says so in the picture. I don't remember seeing a fuel tank with fins, the external ones I see are just somewhat of a really long egg shape. The actual fuel tank is inside the zuke, in the upper center. (about where the enemy shield disruptor is at, only bigger.)

I know it's the bomb. I was just saying that it looked like a fuel tank. Like the kind on the bottom of a jet fighter. Reminds me of my old F-15 game. No offense though.

Hmmm...how many people here have eaten bugs? This thought just sort of popped in my mind after Thumper met the Grillmaster, and I began thinking of strange meats (if you consider bugs a meat product). I myself have had the infamous crickets and jello.

It's not so bad...as long as you don't think about what you're eating as a disgusting creature and rather as a valuable source of protein.43.gif

vid and DP: Try to cheer yourselves up. Anyone care to make a tune for S.T.Coleridge's Xanadu? Here's the lyric:

    In Xanadu did Kubla Khan
    A stately pleasure dome decree
Where Alph, the sacred river, ran
    Through caverns measureless to man
    Down to a sunless sea.

Unfortunately that's all he wrote. The man from Porlock took him out drinking and he lost the thread of what he was going to say even after he got over his hangover.

I saw a bald eagle this morning. Pretty cool, first time Ive seen one in a while. Apparently, it lives ontop of a nearby highrise. Probably looking for food or something, I've seen a good number of snowshoe hare recently, and there are lots of birds nesting now. It's the weather, they never really left because its been so warm all winter, and the past few days have been spring like, they're confused. We're gonna have problems in the near future..41.gif

Bald eagles are fish eating eagles. It is interesting that you would find one in the Lakehead, since the great lakes are a part of their habitat. They are protected, and an endangered species (especially if they are eating the fish around there). You should try to get some pix for us, since they have become rather rare.

Interesing, if they're fish eating eagles, aside from storm drain water (which is so full of chemicals it doesnt freeze until -40 or something like that) pretty much everytihng around is frozen now, and Superior doesnt have many fish (not enough oxygen, theres a word for it but I never remember it)

I keep forgetting to bring my camera with me when I go out places. There is a snowman sex scene 3 blocks down. Scared me when I first saw it, its around the corner so you dont see it until you're right beside it.

I'll keep my eye out. It surprised me when I saw it, too. There are also pregrin falcons in town, mostly in the mountains to the south. they're actually doing pretty good.

You know, I haven't seen a bald eagle pic since I was 6. I never saw a real one in my entire life. But then, I live in California. And if I were to go to Canada, I'd probably get pneumonia since I'm used to living in warm weather. And die. Maybe. Well, if I get three parkas and put one over the other over the other, I might live. Heh.

@N_O_Body: bald eagle are fishing and scavenging eagles... No political double meaning (not voluntary at least). Since you like this topic that much, let's get back to Quebec independence... Is Quebec City area federalist? From what we now of the last referendum, yes. However, like in an election context, people might vote against something, not for something. Since the government is the biggest employer here and that employees were not, as usual, happy about their salaries... some of them probably voted against the government (PQ then) and not against the separation. The least we can say is that people here are opportunists.

Separatist movement has strong roots in everyday people, especially what is the traditionally French-labor lower class. I won't give you an history class but even by keeping an objective perspective, it's difficult not to say that there was a huge discrimination against French speaking persons in the past. The economical domination of English west-Montrealer is still present and had been built mostly on French speaking workers sweat of the last centuries. If you add spicy ingredients like Lord Durham report, the merge of the public debt of both Canadas (Upper's was 5 times higher than Lower's one), it's no surprise to find a strong popular basis for independence, especially in some part of Montreal where these French workers used to live. That movement is probably difficult to see from the outside since most of the medias have a strong federalist bias. A stronger voice might be the artists. Our province is a very fertile ground for artists and a lot of them are supporting independence cause. Many of them like singers, writers, are doing it to help protect our very different culture and language.

About the seat at UNESCO, I won't coment like I would like to do since I'm not totally aware of the subtleties about it. Since its purpose is about science and culture, I can't see why it could be a problem to have Quebec province a stronger or more independent voice since our culture, like it or not, is obviously different. I'm not sure that a single voice coming from Ottawa is the best to represent English Canada, French Canada, Firsts Nations... I'll add that the reason why I've been able to go to Senegal the first time is because the Minist

    Hi folks,

Well, continuing the wildlife discussion, we have peregrines around here too. But then this is a provincial park with a town in the middle, so all kinds of stuff can be expected. We have a lot of deer, but no bear (this year, but they have been ranging closer and closer). There are at least two breeds of ground squirrel, black and gray. Of course, we have tons on chipmunks, but they vary from very wild to quite tame depending on whether they live in town. We have hog-nosed snakes, which are protected. And there is a large section of the Wasaga Dunes that are an ecological reserve for several plant species.

@defcon pilot: Canadians are better at pulling your leg. I am not sure it was nice to poison frigid. Voar Tok and I are talking about a new programming language he got for doing graphics for the web.

@Frigid: Gimme, gimme never gets. Don't you know your manners yet?

@zmveliger: Well, as a grass-roots movement, I don't think there is any benefit in separatism for les gens du pays. As for the arts community, the Canadian arts pie is bigger than any you would have as an independent country. The NFB and the Canada Council don't make foreign grants. Also, the Bay Street Boys salve their conciences with grants to the arts, which flow across the country. It really would be a bad divorce. Maybe we should forget the past and get on with the future. We should stay together for the future of our children.

@Rymac91: Hi, Matt. Chunky cream of tomato with a grilled sandwich made from gruyere and emmental is served with a chilled glass of fresh llama milk. The fourth generation of the autosystem was acquried after I read Dan Simmons' Ilium. I like the ideas of Quantum Transposition, so we incorporated it a couple of months ago.
