Adjectives are different than both English and Spanish in Zukish, all adjectives go right after the noun them modify.

Noooooooooooo. None of you are obsessed about anything!21.gif

Can you believe it? CumOozer won with only 400 more votes than Hyer (NDP).

I'm sure Martin will take a big slice of humble pie, and a hug. Big boy had to give up his position.44.gif

I was hoping NDP would sweep the North.. Close, but not quite, they were a little behind in all ridings. Sault swung NDP, only a matter of time before TBay and Suds follow.9.gif

I'll have a poutine with the hopes that Quebec isnt going anywhere in the near future.44.gif

@brancra: Autochef delivers the green tea. A little smattering of languages is fine, but everyone should remember that the language of the board is English, please. Enjoy.

@ defcon pilot: Bucky may be famous, but we need a definition of Fun Balls. Even roadkill has to pass health inspection. Congrats on arriving on page 93.

@vid: Poutine is served with especially fresh curds. Well, all you young people want to live in interesting times. Big Paul Dithers showed that he is a great bean counter, but like all techies, he made a crummy boss. Besides, he can retire now. If you saw the coverage, his wife was delighted.

Guy with the Edmonton CJ. He's a real ass.

I tried to explain to him that I'll be old enough to vote next time, and that it's good for youth to be interested in politics, but couldnt get it through his thick inbred Albertan skull.

God forbid a faggot has a say in anything. Also, can someone explain to him the difference between a free vote in parliament and a national referendum? He seems to have dumbed them both in the mud and can't figure out which is which.

Now, I don't care about the conversation you had with this member. I don't think you should argue with him because he is one of those people whose mind is made up. You can't tell someone somthing he doesn't want to hear. He obviously has a mind like a steel trap (rusted shut).

I also don't think you should refer to yourself as a faggot. This is a very pejorative term and if you use it for yourself you are pushing your already low self-esteem even lower.

It is no skin off me what your sexual preference is. I am hetero, but I do try to understand gays and lesbians. I have a pretty good idea where you are coming from. Must be darned difficult in the tribal soceity you are in. Persevere, and if you are having identity problems have a PM with Zelgadis or one of the others on the closet thread.

Meanwhile, back at the voting booth: What you do there or what your preferred party is, is your own business. The most important thing is to exercise your franchise and vote once you are of age. BTW spoiling a ballot deliberately is contrary to the Elections Act and is at least a misdemeanor. Just put your X where your belief is.

So bring your fractious friend over here, and I'll stand you both a drink.

I try not to let people bug me like that, but when you're being pulled (well, invited, though you cant say no to it) to an arguemnet like that just to have someone say bad things to you it's hard not to. I've blocked about 6 people that were involved in that though, they know who they are. 30.gif

I've got people to talk to about things so I dont really need to PM anyone, but its good to know theyre there.

We actually had a pretty good laugh at some of the things he said. Calling me immature.21.gif

Hm. Politics are an issue we all love only when it invloves dumping upon somebody else, eh? So, I guess you have conservatives in office now, even though both groups had nice little TV ads displaying the U.S. in a negative light. Just remember that not everyone voted for Bush, and we have an archaice electorate that serves no purpose other than to promote some long-gone elitism.

I would get to vote this year, but becasue my birthday is so close to elction time here in the U.S. I'd never be able to register in time unfortunately. I'm curious about the 06' U.S. elections to see what the Republicans do with their extensive powers. Or if they just try to distance themselves from Dubayah.

The best part about living in New York State is that Quebec ever becomes its own country, we get to border two countries, and not many if any states can boast that (other than marine boundaries, which are null in this discussion).

Vidioman, there are just people that are a little too passionate about their politcal views to go into a debate with. Hey, let's get the autoserver to make a cake with the canadian flag in frosting on top.

@vid: Well, if you take life too seriously, you'll just go bonkers. It's too short to get excited about fools.

@ brancra: Well, considering the complications of your system, this will give you two years to really understand it. Voting is like sex. You never really understand what it's about until you have done it. As for Quebec separation, I think that's on hold for now. The BQ was set back quite a bit, and I think the Quebecois are now in a wait and see position with the Conservatives. With the provincial election coming up in a couple of years, Messrs. Harper and Charest have a chance to get the whole act together, and make our union actually fly. Everyone seems to forget that the first Governor General of Canada was Le Sieur Delasalle. Oh, and did you know that Benjamin Franklin was once Military Governor of Montreal?

@ Voar Tok: Thanks. Name your poison, everyone. SmilieCanada.gif alt=Oh! Canada?

@defcon pilot: Good advice. Sorry, we can't supply Bucky Katt's Fun Balls. They contain items that are counted as filth. However, you could have a serving of our fine spaghetti with Maranara sauce and home style meatballs. The meatballs are made of beef, veal, pork, onions, garlic and an egg binder. Usually about the size of a baseball.

Wow, I haven't checked this thread in a while.

Politics can be interesting, whether they be American, Canadian, Australian, whatever. I've finally decided to take the Kerry/Edwards sticker off my car, which my dad put on when he was driving it. I would not have voted for Bush, had I been of voting age, and would have voted for Kerry even though I didn't like him at all. Edwards I liked, however, and I think he needed a better running mate than Kerry. I'll take the sticker off as soon as my new bumper sticker arrives:

I also ordered one of these:

I'm a huge supporter of the separation of church and state. The FSM is quite the interesting way to protest against the Kansas School Board, among others.

@defcon pilot: Nothing. But VT is buying in honour of the election, so I am waving the flag. You mean you don't understand voting, even after you've done it?

@Ratieya455: Matt, I must have missed something. FSM::=? Elections are always interesting. We now have something that hardly ever occurs. A bare minority. While Mr. Harper will be the 22nd Prime Minister, he really can't do much without the agreement of the other major players. 124 seats can't do anything by themselves. The votes needed to pass anything is 155.

@zmveliger: Guiness is served. Wow. I haven't looked at the electoral map for Quebec. You are saying that 8/10 of the ridings in your area went conservative? Who is living in interesting times? Does this indicate that BQ support is weak around Quebec City? How is the PQ support, then? I don't think there will be a referendum anytime soon. The provincial election is in 2008? I think. The Ontario one is in 2007. Since all the major cities went Liberal, do you want to believe that there is some serious squirming going on there? In Toronto, the mayor is making flabbergasted noises. Neat picture of the winter. What is the specular highlight near the bottom of the frame?

@N_O_Body: BQ support is usually strong here. However, it's not the first time that people here react an unpredictable way. If the separatists lost the last referendum, it's not only because of west-Montreal-English and immigrant votes... Quebec City region is another reason. Now why? Liberals were out from the start, no need to explain why. Why Conservative? I think that power is the main factor in that choice. Other factors... Quebec City is 98% Francophone so we're less afraid of what some people name the English threat (assimilition); compared to other regions, average wealth here is higher since there's a lot of state employees, so few large industries; people here are sensitive to $, less to environment and social issues (in part because of the points above); people here more concerned by there little comfort bubble than large scale issues (war, looting of poor countries)... The answer is much complex than that but it might give an idea. No need to tell you that I'm disappointed. Finding a job was difficult for me before, now it should be worse. Environment and international cooperation efforts will be switch the opposite way to industries-business and army...

Is the Conservative hold here a long term trend? Difficult to tell. It won't disappear for a while but they benefit a lot from the protest vote against Liberals. Among the 8 Conservatives elected, some of them are only boring passengers. Even their star sounds like an empty shell (she was a professional political image maker before). Another one is very interesting... A friend of mine moved in an appartment last summer and the leaser before him was one of the new Conservative elected. Strange is the fact that she still receive many checks coming directly from the Liberals at her ex-apartment... After a small inquiry, it seems that she's red to the bone but went as a Conservative puppet to split the vote and reduce the probability of BQ being elected. Her unexpected victory might lead to very strange events in the next months...

Another stange thing happened last monday... If you look at some result tables, you'll notice an independant. He's here! Portneuf is less than 5 kms from here. Andr

www.conservative.ca will tell you everything you need to know. 2.gif

The US ambassador [David Wilkins] said that the United States considers the waters of the Arctic Archipelago to be neutral territory, and said they are displeased with Stephen Harpers plans to put more ice breakers and military personnel in the region. Harper said America defends their sovereignty and Canada will defend ours (something like that) so I'm starting to like him more.44.gif

Frank McKenna resigned as Canadian ambassador to the United States, so Harper will get to appoint a new, probably more conservative ambassador, which will most likely bring us back into America's favourable light.

Also interesting, he began his speech today in French, then spoke in English, usually they put French second. He also mentioned he has plans to reform the senate, so that it's elected instead of appointed. There is a slight possibility of a by-election to fill in the one vacancy.

Here in the US, the US Senate used to be appointed.  Each state government would elect a couple of men from the government and send them to Congress.  Then one of the Constitutional amendments changed that to Senatorial elections by popular vote of the people.

@Voar Tok: Yes, virtual simoleons are easy money, eh? What is Blitz Basic? How close is it to the other BASIC languages? Later: I thought that until sometime in the 1920's U.S. Senators were appointed by the state governors (in council). Electing those guys really put the boots to a lot of states rights. I really don't think having senators elected in Canada will work, because the current appointment is until death or age 75 whichever comes first. A regular election cycle for these guys is repugnant. We need an old boys club.

@brancra: Better than Santa Claus. He only comes once a year and then goes off up the chimney.

@Tolomar: Now, Thumper, What did your father tell you?

@zmveliger: Well, that's an interesting set of side-lights. So the Quebec capital region is federalist? I guess the comfortable shoe fits better. As far as separatism goes, is this just a set of intellectuals with the bit in their teeth? I can't see any advantage to the average citoyen/citoyenne if Quebec were a sovereign member of the U.N. Just a lot of officious paper work. What are the implications of Mr. Harper's statement that Quebec could have more clout in UNESCO? Need a job? The embassy in Washington is looking for a new CEO.

@brancra: Well, you can see the official platform at the web site given by vid. However, the main difference is that this is a new bunch, and are not known to be currently corrupt. Also, the policy on crime and the department of corrections is a big attraction. Steven said in at least one speech, widely reported, that if you do a violent crime you get to do the time without regard to age, time in pre-trial custody, etc. He also is talking consecutive rather than concurrent sentences and a real trip to the slammer for gun crimes. Further, he promises to end house arrest or conditional sentences. Convicted is going to mean convicted. We'll know more when we see who's in the cabinet. Martin had 37 members in it. Steven should have about 25, which is a great plenty when you eliminate all the stuff that really belongs to the provinces.

@vid: Well, getting rid of one of the main porkers from the Washington diplomatic corps has got to be a plus. I don't give a rat's behind what the yanks think about the arctic. The border up there is between us and the Russians. There is no international water in the Arctic. Let's be clear that our neighbours that border our country physically are Russia and the United States of America. Kind of like being Poland before WW II.

We have a land border with the United States, and share water borders with Russia (over the North Pole) Denmark (Greenland, to the northeast) and France (St Pierre et Miquelon) near Newfoundland. We'd border a few more if we had T&C.
