@Big_Bazzoo: People don't appreciate other people enough. We try to give correct answers to questions (no guarantees) and if someone gets the info they needed, fine. I always assume if there is no further action that the problem was solved. After all, no news is good news. My new factory model got rendered (4000 + seconds) and was too big to fit. Remember I asked about the 6 x 6 limit? Well the lot editor will not let you create any RCI lot of larger dimensions. I tried scaling it, but was unsuccessful, so I scrapped it and started over with a somewhat smaller building. Winterton_Fine_Papers will, hopefully, employ 2000=3000 Sims in its 5376 square metre floor area. To safeguard it from plargiarism, I am putting one frame of my avatar on the building, probably in a door panel.

An attorney did attempt to get on my nerves today which resulted in
me working late,  so the string is ended again. Oh well there always
 tomorrow to not get bothered by folks.

My dad and I have had such work and school schedules that I have not seen his car in days. This occured to me because he was in a minor accident on friday and I did not see the damage. All I knew is that one of his headlights was out and that he was perfectly okay; he has had at least half a dozen accidents in his life and has never had any injury.

I got a good, long look at it today, and I could not believe he was rear ended at 30MPH. He drives a 1996 Oldsmobile Ciera station wagon, so it is not a gigantic car. He was rear-ended and shoved into a large pickup with a diamond plate rear bumper. The car that hit him, which I have no idea what it is, sustained heavy damage in front. Amazingly, the rear bumper of my dad's car took the hit and took it very well; you have to get really close to it to even tell it had been hit. Its supports crumpled in about an inch, and the steel bumper held its shape. The front of the car hit an even stronger bumper at headlight level, which crushed the passenger side headlight and the fiberglass piece above it. The grille was already broken over two years ago, and he never got it fixed.

All it looks like the car will need is new bumper supports in back, and a new grille, headlight, and fiberglass piece in front. I sincerely doubt it will be totalled, even though it is only worth $2200 according to Keller Blue Book. I can take pictures of it tomorrow when he gets home from work.

Yeah, it's amazing how a low speed bump really crumples a car, but i guess that is for tha safety of the people in it.  My wife hit the back end of a trailer truck at 20mph, $2,000 damage, but she was unhurt.  I'm glad your dad is okay, ratieya 455.

Well, back to work for me, for the last 2 years I work almost every weekend and get Wed. & Thurs. as my days off.  It's okay, though, i guess if I had kids that would be more important, but I like this shift.

@ Ratieya455: Matt, that's tough, but those old cars are too. We had a slight Touch on one of our bumpers (1999 Honda Odyssey) and it cost over $500 for a used repaint. This was only the shell, the bumper was not harmed.

I got home after dark, so I can't take a picture of the damage tonight. I was at a friend's house most of the day helping her assemble her new computer. She did not know what was going on, but her dad has an interest in computers and both of us learned something about them. Here are the specs of her new system:

Had an interesting time getting 98SE to install properly, then an even more interesting time with the RAID controller and XP Home Upgrade. It is all assembled, and is alarmingly powerful. I still won't upgrade mine for a while, but using a more powerful computer than your own causes envy. I have 640MB single channel RAM @ 266MHz. The design of my graphics card is over three years old. Oh well, it plays SC4 just fine.

Maybe you would like some gravy and some fresh cheese curd with those. It makes them into poutine. It is fine with me, as long as you don't drink a Pepsi with them.

@Ratieya455: Matt, computers should be like every other home appliance and should last a l-o-o-o-n-g time. The industry thinks it is selling cars and depends on penis envy to sell new machines. I can probably never afford a new machine until my mortgage is paid off or a rich relative dies. The mortgage pays off in 2029, so I don't expect any new slick stuff soon. Maybe I'll be able to find a used cast-off in a junk sale at the community centre. I think this gives me an idea for a new thread topic. Look around.

John, that is part of the reason she updated. Her old specs were:

1GHz P3
256MB SDRAM
32MB SiS video card

That thing was top of the line when she bought it over four years ago. She has been wanting a new computer since last summer and started saving up for a good one she can keep for a while. It is the same with our 2GHz Dell: three years and just starting to feel slightly outdated, that is until we put in a 256MB video card and doubled the RAM from 384 to 768MB ( (128+256) - 128 + 512 = (256+512) = 768 ). Some people buy a new computer way too often, and some hang onto them too long. I have a friend that recently bought a used 800MHz PC, and has been using a 350MHz iMac for the past six or seven years. I wonder if that computer or their Grand Caravan will die first; they were both bought at about the same time.

I doubt I will be using this computer in 35 years, but my 35 year old car seems to work fine. It is still a little outdated, though, as it gets the gas mileage of a Durango and pollutes twice as much. A Univac made in 1970 could not run Rollercoaster Tycoon 3, though, yet my Toronado can run on modern day roads and burn modern day gasoline.

Oddly enough, I don't have that feeling with my PC.  It was a higher-end computer 2 years ago, but I don't think it's any faster or better than some newer computers today.  Then again, I don't play a lot of graphics-heavy games, neither.  I mainly use it for school, music, and playing DVDs and not much more, honestly.  But I'll probably end up upgrading in a few years because I always have to have the latest technology.

Oh yeah, bartender, may I have a White Russian?  Preferably with llama milk.  Thanks.

@ Ratieya455: A Univac II could play Yankee Doodle on its main bus, and in fact if it didn't when you ran the diagnostics, it was sick, sick, sick. I guess I am not an inveterate gamer, because I only use this box for Simcity, communications on the net with my kids and friends, a little word processing and some spreadsheet work. Having a spreadsheet with your BAT calculations is very nice. Saves writing down the dimensions of everything, and lets you keep a log, too.

I think it's funny that it seems like games drive the computer hardware industry.  Of all the software I use, Autocad, photoshop, I record live music, the internet, etc., My old P2 300mhz machine, now relegated to balancing the checkbook, was perfectly adequate.  Newer games with high video demands forced me to upgrade ram, the video card, etc. until I couldn't do much more, so I had to get a faster machine.  My laptop, which was really fast 18 months ago does get a little laggy with large cities in this game...(more ram on the way)and I'm sure it won't be long before some game convinces me I need an even faster machine!

@ Carpman: Well, considering the behaviour of Brits at football games in general, I find myself even less interested that in the gladiatorial combats of the NHL. Good hockey is available all over Canada, as the fans are beginning to realize. Our junior team is world champions, winning six gold medals this year. I think they should get their names on the Stanley Cup. What can I get you to eat or drink? We have some nice chili, no beans.

@ginchael: Well, we won't be watching here at the Factory. As for the half-time show, one of the Sunday comics I get suggested that the half-time show consist of Pat Boon with his mouth taped shut encased in a suit of welded armor.

@The_Dalai_Llama: About the only malfunction you can expect is the usual failure of the fans to be sane. This auto da fe only attracts me because Honda is announcing their new pick-up in one of the commercials. I am not watching any of it. Sorry, Honda, you really picked the wrong show if you want me to look at your new toy. The reviews in the weekend papers for the new pickup said it was pricey but really good.
