    Hi folks,

Sorry I have been away so long, but I was having a problem with posting from Firefox. Don't know what. Anyway, dealing with your posts:

@JoeSocWork: You don't need decaf here. The caffiene is virtual, remember, eh? later: A four-shot latte. What kind of shots?

@ nosoupforyou: cuts a lemon in half, wraps half in gauze, and passes over the salt with it. Welcome nosoupforyou, here you go. Watch that salt, it's not good for your blood pressure.

@Matt: Come over to this table and have a seat. Brings over the plate with steak, home fries and broccoli. Greek side salad, too. Here you are. Want ice cream with your pie? later Capuccino? Sure. Pulls a cup from the machine, froths it, and sprinkles on cinnamon. Sorry about the paper cup, but I don't let my china out of the place.

@dev: Welcome. Yes, Joe straitened me out on this. Sorry. Anyway, this method is better, even if I am using my own page editor.

@oakenshield: Dwarves are always welcome. -20

@oakenshield: Dwarves are always welcome. -20°F? Brrrr. What do you hear from Thorin these days? If you have a preference on dark coffee, name a brand and I'll see what the supplier has.

    quote>

My preference isn't merely for dark coffee, nay, it is for coffee that grabs you by the #&%@, gives a twist, and slaps you across the face.

Regardless of name-brand, the most vile, unbecoming, horrendous mixture of caffeine-laden devil's brew you can cook up will do nicely. Make it hurt.

    Hey John!

That's shots of espresso! I've  never asked my cardiologist about anything else!

Your signature is legal, at least by ST protocols. In terms of setting it up, candidly I'm a social worker and a moderator, not a graphics artist.  Maybe a good first place to start would be the tutorials about signatures and posting in the New Members Forum.   I otherwise rely on the expertise of the yutes around here to help me out. -they're pretty cool about it & I learn techie stuff from them all the time.  If I ever become successful in learning how to BAT, it'll be due to them.  I try to reciprocate by showing them how an adult acts,  -when I can find one!  3.gif17.gif

@ TT & NoSoupForYou (and maybe Duke?): Maybe you guys should hook up this spring!  I'm more inclined to know where to take a 4 & 6 year old than to know cool places for teens to hang out. (I could ask one of my social workers but I've got them busy as it as.)

@ Matt: I could possibly have meant Boris by mistake when I was referring to HIPAA.  One of you had said that your mothers is a doctor.  HIPAA refers to the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996.  It's basically about being able to keep your same insurance provider with you when you change jobs.  But... most of it's rules center around privacy and access to records.  That's a great thing in theory and it set many newer regulations that are just now coming into play the past couple of years.  Some make sense, some of them are common sense & common practice anyway, many are redundant, many are arcane, many make absolutely no sense and many seem to have been written by lawyers who have never been to a doctor, let alone a social services agency, a day in their lives.  If you've been to a pharmacy and had to stand back from the counter while waiting, it's due to HIPAA.  The professionals in our agency are already guided the Social Worker's Code of Ethics which maintains a premium on privacy and autonomy.  The administration takes HIPAA like any other gov't act seriously and we follow it to the letter even if it some of it's regs seem silly or hard to follow.

John:  I'm glad to see you've expanded your line of cuisine.  You're going to probably a get wider range of requests with maybe more finickier(sp?) tastes.  One of us is even a soup nazi. 18.gif   But I'm positive you'll develop a strong following like you did at SimCity.com. 44.gif

Meanwhile, keep the iced lattes rolling!

Joe, I am guessing you were referring to Boris, but my mom is an ER nurse at a hospital is St. Paul. I know almost nothing about our medical insurance, other than that my mom says it is very good.

It seems too many policies and laws are made by peopel that really don't know what they are doing. Ralph Nader is an interesting example for his crusade for safer cars back in the 1960's. He currently does not own a car and I do not know if he ever has. His regulations actually did make sense, even tohugh he had never designed a car or anything. Seat belts are just common sense (and everyone should wear one) and another good feature is a collapsible steering column. My Toronado from 1970 has this, along with sholder and lap belts for the front driver and outboard passenger and just lap belts for the middle front and three in back. I find that the collapsible steering column and seat belt are two of the most important safety features.

It is interesting to browse data from IIhs , especially the rear bumper tests. This test is simple, where the vehicle is backed into a pole at five miles per hour. Out of several hundred cars and trucks tested, a dozen of them can do it with no damage (Including the Saturn SL, which we own two of ). Carmakers don't care to improve these, because they are not life threatening and it means more money for repairs at their dealers. This is probably the reason that Saturn's first two models, the S and L series, have a good rating and the ION and VUE do not (GM is destroying everything Saturn is about; the new Relay van has an all steel body).

There is a sample video which you can download, and it is a late 90's Mercedes E Class. Does it pass? No way. The bumper collapses into the pole, then the pole impacts the trunk and destroys the latch mechanism, which opens the trunk. This is a $50k car and its bumper was beaten by a $12k Saturn.

Fill me up! John!! 25.gif    A long day in the bureaucracy.  28.gif  14.gif  (To make up for yesterday's easier day maybe?? 21.gif)

@ Matt: I looked back at the home site and you're right, it was Boris' mother who's a General Practitioner.  I have a lot of respect for people in the health services, be it doctors or nurses or aides.

Don't get me even started about insurance for D.C. employees (so I won't 20.gif)

You kind of got where I was going with HIPAA.  While I'm always amazed at the Law of  Unintended Consequences and how people sometimes don't pay heed to it,  I thought it was an interesting example of a goverment act that was meant to address one issue (portable insurance) and in the process making drastic changes in something quite different (medical privacy).

John I am so exhausted I may crash here.   I haven't done that at a Starbucks yet but I have taken naps on the Metro and in my car for five-ten minutes before going inside my house.  24.gif

Sorry, I was away for a day. Had to go to T.O. (blecch!)

Well, I see we are not so busy tonight.

@Oakenshield & bravoj: Maybe coffee is not for you. Have you tried Oolong Soochong Tea? Resembles coal tar.

@JoeSocWork: Pushed the espresso button four times and makes a low milk latte. Here you go. Soup? We always have a pot on. Today is Mulligatawney. Anyone for a bowl with chapattis. Later... Here's your refill. Want to use the crash pad in the back room. Just curl up with Edwardus Ursus, and you'll sleep like Christopher Robin. Very much later Sorry, I am having a problem with posting this HTML stuff.

@dev: Nope. Corn-meal mush never caught on in Canada. Would you like your Okra with tomato sauce? I can also give you some roast lamb and some nice saffron rice with that.

@tHe Dark_Child: Pushes the espresso button on the machine. Here you are, oh dark one. Enjoy.

@The Terminator: The TP is in the usual place. Bus schedules are posted on the kiosk outside. Looks puzzled We don't keep any booze in the safe, only images of her majesty.

Howdy everyone. John, I'll have some llama milk hot chocolate please!

@Joe: Well, different countries, different acts and such. You don't need health insurance here in Canada eh, it's paid for through taxes. Not that I ever have to use the system anyways. All of my health expenses so far have been paid for, since they were all dentistry, and I had my braces put on before my dad's company gave us dental coverage. Urghhh, I am glad I have had those off for 6 months now, after 4 looooooong years....

Hey John glad to see you & the Moose factory back buddy! I'll try your food if you think it washes with my iced lattes.

I appreciate the offer of the cot. Lately after work I've sometimes felt the need to crash.  Hopefully a little exercise will help, now that my doctor has given me permission.  Saturday outings with the kiddoes have been great rejuvenators.

T.T.:  You crack me up a lot too buddy!17.gifI just hope we're not contributing to the delinquency of a robot, er minor! 20.gif   Maybe Oakenshield and myself will have a conversation about pinning the Moose Factory up.

Boris: You and therefore your mother are from Canada (duh!)  As if most of the U.S reg's other than NAFTA are even going to make the radar.  Unless there are policies I'm unaware of, I'm glad that Canadian-based Simtropolis and the Moose Factory on the Internet aren't hit by international laws.

John, I've said it before, don't be afraid to ask people around here for help on the technical stuff.  I spent about 2-3 hours this evening making minor alterations on my signature & I'd still be at if I didn't catch a random response about centering by DuskTrooper in the tutorials at the New Members Forum.      You guided me and lots of others about how to play Sim City at the Home Site and there probably will be a lot of new people for your to guide here as well, especially at the New Members Forum. Who knows, you might even able to set up a Moose Factory tool shop over there!44.gif

@Boris225: Spins the shake maker with a little chocolate powder and llama milk. Tops it up in a cup and pops it in the nuc. *ding* Here you are Boris.

@ timotheus4: Double scoops out chocolate llama ice cream. Here you go.

@Joesocwork: Actually, we have a very eclectic menu. What do you like to eat? As far as my sig goes, it works on other boards with no trouble. There must be something peculiar here. It is an animated GIF. If you want to see it look on my home board, second page at www3.sympatico.ca/john.winterton.

@dev: I assume you mean the canned kind, that has alrady been steamed. Melts butter in a pan, fries up some okra.
Here y'are. Are you from the South or middle Europe?

@The Terminator: Pours a glass of GA Here you go. What does ginger ale do for (to?) robots? Especially teenage ones? Does it recharge your positrons? Maybe reinforce the three (four?) laws? It would be nice if one could tell you guys from humans. May be should be calling your R. The Terminator, eh? Pops in a set of ear plugs. Fires up the autogrill and mixes up some PC complete mix. Makes a stack of five pancakes. Drops some llama ice cream in the shake mixer, tops with good llama milk and spins it. Funny thing, I had pancakes for breakfast myself. Here's your plate and your shake. Enjoy. ... Carpman? Is he into gefulte fish?

@Oakenshield: Pinned? Like the tail on a donkey? Why (ouch!) thank you. This will clearly save searching. Your uberbrau is on the house. The cribbage board and some new packs of cards are in the drawer in your table.

    @TT:

Well what can I say about me?

I am 67 years old, retired from teaching IT stuff part-time at Georgian College.

In 1990 I was downsized in one of those mass corporate killings by Honeywell-Bull as they went out of the mainframe business.  After being in the IT game both as an end user and on the sales support side since 1962, it was quite a blow.  After bouncing around for about a year, I recoved and went to work teaching part-time.

My current interest is cooking and SC4, particularly the BAT

I just came to the end of Phillipbo's tutorial and discovered that I have the night textures problem.  I can see them, but the BAT can't.  The thread on this problem wasn't particularly helpful.  I suspect that XP has done some motherly thing that has messed this up.  I wish operating system people would stop playing Father Knows Best.

It is time for the sack since I have to go to T.O. tomorrow.  Good night.

I have the day off today, and it is once again too cold outside to do anything. That's okay, though, because I have become majorly re-addcited to SC4 and just bought John Deere American Farmer yesterday. It is both better and worse than SimFarm, and it is realy hard to say which is overall better.
