I have to give you props for your many promotions of the GIMP.  Downloaded it again a few days ago (I had downloaded it previously but the files were corrupt) and I have been playing with the various tools, filters, and Script-Fu scripts (which I haven't figured out how to turn off).  Still have a lot of learning to do, but I can claim that my sig pic came from some playing with the GIMP.
