The files were updated about a month ago... check the RMIP Menu Management Lots release on the STEX, read the part about updating and re-download to get the new MMLs.

*dies* You sure were quick about that! I'm going to go crazy and build 18 runways.  Oh, and be sure to include extra designators in the LAE

Is it possible to put a taxiway exit in the middle of a displaced threshold? That'll look very nice.  Or maybe, you could put individual displaced threshold lots so the lengths of our displaced thresholds will all be different.

It could be done quite easily with the LE I would assume. Just add the taxiway textures as you desire under the runway, and use.

1956 United Airlines DC-7, now available on the STEX! get it here. Not just a new airline this time: a makeover of the wing & elevator skins, converting them to authentic bare metal... it came out so nice, I may go update the others to use the same. Also the vertical tail's skin (just the skin, not the in game color!) is now slightly green to cancel the weird red overtones that sometimes appear in-game.

Great work again. That nose and tail section came out very very nicely. The colors on the tail fit perfectly.

http://www.arc-aachen.de/index.php?option=com_content&task=section&id=6&Itemid=30 I found this kinda interesting. For all you airport geeks wouldn't it be fun if we could play with this?!! How is the wide runway project coming along by the way Voltaire? I'm especially looking forward to this one! Out of curiousity will it have 30 degree fast exit taxiways?

The first three DC-7 releases have been updated with better wings and windows previously seen only in the United skin. Only one more to go -- then on to the jetliners!

    dc7v2pj8.jpg

    Thanks Yoman!

GoldenKevin right now the plan is to make exit taxiway stubs connect to the runway outside of the markings. So far I haven't run into anything preventing that, but there's still a long way to go.

sorry I didn't see your question earlier ben_sb_vex: Takeoff & Landing animations operate no matter the length of runway; nothing except power loss (or low graphics settings) will stop them. Combining pre-fab terminals with RMIP is fine, just be sure to get Swamper77's airport support file. Finally, the runways do not function in any meaningful sense (other that looking very nice!), so pick the pieces you want. And thanks!

bearmans that software is a series of plugins for professional drafting programs (expensive!) but it would be neat to play with... for those of us comfortable with MSDOS, the old FAA program (still a free web download) is good enough. It's text-only though, nowhere near as illustrative as AutoCAD would be.

Very nice planes Voltaire! Yeah I have autoCAD and will start my degree in architecture in October so maybe I will get to play around with stuff like that sometime in the future.

You know what would be cool? If you could replace the Fire Plane UDI Automata with a DC-7 like how they replace the Steam Train with an El Rail with the Network Addon Mod. If you could also change the drop water thing into something else, that'll be very cool.

Voltaire: I hope I'm not being too pushy, but do you have a general release date in mind for the wide runways?

    Hey Voltaire, Great Job!

I'm glad this was one of the first thing I found when coming back to SimCity (after a long stint of both real and virtual aviation).

I tried my best to read the entire thread...but I am sure I missed a few things. Perhaps you, or some other friendly folks could answer some questions?

    1. Is there a lot that acts as the actual "airport", as opposed to just eye-candy/profit? EDIT:  I've been using some of the lots from the SWAP pack, but the capacity is just not enough. However, the two terminals included seem to be the only lots that are actual "airports" (Cap Buster/query menu, icon in region view etc.)

    2. I notice some very cool ground markings in some of your screen shots that I don't seem to have (even with all three packs). Are these from other packs?

    3. Related to 2. What packs do you currently use? Mainly out of curiosity, but also because I respect and agree with your high standard of quality 4.gif

Thanks so much for all the effort and time put into this wonderful project!

    -Matt

P.S. Great job on the aircraft re-textures/remodels! Can't wait to see more of those as well 4.gif

Voltaire; how do you do this (Boarding the large plane without jetbridges):

    1vol3alpha5nz0.th.jpg

But I have to thank you a tousand times for being able to make planestands with the BAe. However, if you're going to BAT planes, would perhaps a Boeing 737 or Dash-8 to replace the BAe be more needed than post-millenium planes.

Presenting the all-new Boeing 720, in the 1960s colors of Braniff International Airways!

The entire aircraft has been remodeled -- all 392 vertices, plus dozens of UV coordinates. Both images making up the model "skin" have been redone from scratch. This release is a multi-pack -- five skins are included, a selection from both designer color palettes used by Braniff in the '60s.

     2bnf7201iw4.jpg

    2bnf7202lv5.th.jpg 2bnf720nv6.th.jpg bn720blueey8.th.jpg

I chose the shorter 027 model to keep overall length down, it's about the same as Maxis' 707 for the convenience of people who built terminals with just enough space for the Maxis jet.  The whole thing has been re-worked so the scale (of the fuselage especially) is upgraded to 16 meters/tile, for visual consistency with the 747. Someone in ace's thread remarked how our 747 dwarfs the 707 when put side-by-side -- it's because the 707 was under-scaled.

Anyone wishing to DL the manual-install pack for MAC or LINUX please be patient, I am moving all the manual-install .zip files to a new server.

    Replies

HamsterTK I have not heard from ace personally in months, I am not sure of his intentions at this point. I cannot just release it myself, because although I did a lot of work on it, it's ace's originally and I have to wait for him.

nanumea, that Lot wasn't a finished concept, just a basic piece of ramp with the plane and some vehicles nearby for scale. At real airports back in the day before jetways (skybridges), you would have seen air-stairs fore and aft (possibly on both sides) to allow passengers to board and disembark.

    hope you like it hyped_up_boy!

Pilot3033 I really apologize for leaving yout post un-answered for 3 weeks 45.gif  Glad I could get you interested in SC4 again. I consider it the highest possible compliment when RL aviation people like yourself enjoy my content. In response to your questions:

    1. So far, the terminals in SWAP and RH Airport Pack are the only ones that "function" to raise commercial caps and so forth. I know of at least one member (not me) working to remedy the situation.

    2. All the markings I show are intended for public release, some I just haven't got around to yet  2.gif I suspect you're looking at the little terminal I made last spring, to test the RJ jetways -- I consider those prototype textures which will form the basis for more upgrades within the Large Airport Edition.

    3. I use mainly RMIP-2; at this point its scope is so large that no other pack is necessary. RMIP-1 is no longer installed on my system. I've plucked several useful bits from SWAP and modded them for my own use. And of course ace_bovenopdeberg's terminal set.

    General Project Notes

The DC-7 project is on hold indefinitely until I figure a way to re-scale without manual editing of vertices. The relative proportions are correct  but the whole thing should be doubled in size -- the wingspan is supposed to be the same as a 707. I made the error of using window size and spacing as a measuring stick; DC-7 windows are actually larger and set much further apart than Avro or Boeing windows.

The Large Airport Edition is unfortunately also on hold indefinitely while I deal with work and other RL issues. I can't see returning to it before March. I know you've all be waiting patiently, and I wish production time weren't stretched out like this, but I just can't set RL aside for game modding as much as I used to. In the meantime, I'll get together some adapter pieces to go from RMIP-2 taxiways to RMIP 1.0 wide runways, so all you mega-airport builders out there can get a start on your big projects.

I found a very realistic and cool flight simulator called FlightGear. The only problem is that it's graphics are not all that great, but's it's still pretty nice.

That's a good idea, Voltaire, but what about Rapid-Exit Taxiways?  Will they ever get the RMIP-2 style?  And will the smaller runways get them?  And ALS systems (for wide runways)--we'll need them!

    Voltaire,

I must say, the Braniff 720 loks fantastic in SC4. It is a great alternative to the original model and I am quite impressed with the quality of the model. You have really outdone yourself.

I am just glad the research material proved useful. You got the colors down perfectly! I can't wait to also see these along side the 747 once that is released by Ace.

I look forward to working with you on your next project, feel free to let me know once you are ready.

Just thought I would drop by and give my two cents!

    Stay Fabulous!

@ Voltaire: First off, let me say you have made some very additions to SC4 with your work. Also, forgive me if this has been asked before, but there's a lot to dig through in this thread (which I will be doing over the next few days). Are there any known bugs with the RMIP-2 pack? Most of my pieces work fine, but when I plop some of the approach light pieces and some of the grass pieces, SC4 shuts down. This is a real pain, and I feel like my airport won't be complete without these. Thanks for any help!

ive had the same problem with a few of my own lots, though it seemd to be resolved when i removed SWAP, and all of Thallasicus and Joerg's files.

I belive it happens when you have these three installed and start getting to much in your airport menu.

You could try to do that anyway, se if it works. but one thing is certain, its a conflict with some other lot, because all of Volitare's lots work flawlessly when loaded alone 2.gif

    Cheers

Thanks, xiziz - I'm going to give that a try, and if I have time, try to single out the piece or pieces that conflict.

I always had trouble with the Joerg/Thalassicus/SWAP grass, it crashed the game instantly whenever I built it, even with Swamper's support file installed. Which is why I went and made my own grass lots -- located in the Parks menu -- so I think xiziz is correct. Try and use RMIP-2 grass in a fresh city, without any other airport packs loaded in your plugins folders at all. Remember to look for extra copies in your Program Files plugins, as well as your My Documents plugins.

    Animation Problems?

    Voltaire/Anyone Else --

I've got a huge city with a handful of airports, two of them built out of the (amaaazing) RMIP pieces, and one, the smallest, one of the Maxis prefab jobs.

All are powered, because they all blink like crazy, and my graphics settings are turned all the way up. Yet the lovely orange Braniff 707s take off in an animated fashion from the Maxis prefab airport, and not from my RMIP runways!

I haven't put down either of the small-plane animation (Rockwell business jet or DC-whatever) runway pieces... is there one for the 707 prop that I've overlooked or forgot to install?

    Guidance much appreciated in advance!

cingmot, there isn't. i found the same thing.. and it's to bad.. you have to make a bigger runway(3 tile wide) to have 707 land at you airport..

voltaire, do you have any pictures of what you've done?? i'm really looking forward for those 3 tile wide RIMP-styled runway lots!!!

    keep it up
