Just wondering how many here at Simtropolis play a musical instrument. It can be anything from brass to woodwind to string to percussion.

If so, how long have you been playing?

Myself, I play the trombone and the french horn, and a little of the other brass, with a crash-course in piano.

I also enjoy the Pirates of the Caribbean soundtrack. Does anyone else?

I used to play the recorder at infant school 18.gif
but I gave up after I soon realised if I didn't go to the lessons instead I could play with lego! 6.gif those were the days.....
havent touched an instrument since 9.gif
but as I'm not very musical at all I have respect for those who can play well as it seems very hard 19.gif

Sorry, but if it's not on the front page, than I don't see it. That's kinda the sad thing about having so many pages in the forum topics. Well, since we're here already, might as well keep going.

Good point. If you responded before, you can just skip out.

I used to play piano, but I had so much trouble with analysis of the music I was trying to play that I never was very good. I just analysed it to death. I also did quite a bit of vocal work when I was younger, and seriously studied vocal performance about 20 years ago. When I was in high-school I was dragooned into playing Major General Stanley in the Pirates of Penzance. That was when I discovered that I love comedy.

I played the French Horn/Mellophone from 6th through 9th grades and in summer marching band for a few years. I currently have a keyboard and am slowly learning to play it. I can't sing worth a darn.

Haha, I was going to start a topic on this, but you beat me to it Taylor.

    Oh well.

Anywho, I've played piano for 11 years, then in middle school I started on trumpet, then switched to french horn for highschool, and then to Tuba when I was a sophomore.  I can also play baritone, and some drum rudiments.  A few summers ago a took up guitar and I'm getting kinda ok at it.  Recently I've picked up bass.  I plan to attend FSU (GO NOLES!) and major in music therapy.

I've also become a pro at air guitar, air bass, and air drums.

Good luck with your musical ventures,

I play two instruments: Viola for 9 years and Alto Saxophone for 6. I've focused on my saxophone my first two years of high school, playing in the marching band, concert band, and pep band. I played my viola in a city orchestra in 7th and 8th grade, and I'm focusing on it more the last two years of my high school, this year and next year, playing in the school orchestra. Overall, I prefer the viola over the saxophone. I prefer string instruments, its feel, and its sound.

And to The_Family_Guy: Yes, I do enjoy the Pirates of the Caribbean soundtrack. In fact, I was listening to it earlier today. I like a lot of soundtracks, especially the Lord of the Rings ones and the Harry Potter ones.

Nothing better than a low Bb in the afternoon to shake the windows. Can get annoying if you run out of slide cream however.

I have 5 years percussion experience. To break it down:

6th to 8th grade - played snare drum, bass drum, and cymbals
9th grade - played the smallest bass drum in my high school drum line
Currently (10th grade) - played the marching snare drum during marching   season and now timpanies, cymbals, bass drum, and snare drum in symphonic band

The_Family_Guy: Yes, our marching band actually did a halftime show with the Pirates of the Caribbean in my freshman year.

Well... I am at about Grade Five Piano, not that I play any more... And I am an ok guitarist, at about grade four... Not that I play any more... Mainly I sing, which is fun - I have a four octave vocal range which is pretty fun to play around with at times... Four Octaves, starting at a Low C, lol...

I played the guitar for about 12 years.  I picked it up from a friend in college and it stuck with me.
