why has simtropolis slowed down to a slugs pace?

This site has been relatively popular. The speed of your internet connection is also a factor which affects the speed of the forums.

The same happened to me. A selected times of the day, I was not being able to properly access 'Today's Posts'. The first time I tried to post this to this thread, I ran into a message saying 'Deadlock' or something similar.

My first suggestion is, be patient.

I have high speed cable and ST seems to load slower than it used to. I think it's because there are a lot of members cruising the system which usually slows things down, depending on your connection.

Simtropolis might be going slow because there is going to be a major update to this website in the next few weeks and the site is very popular right now.

I have the same problem. I think that ST has so many members loging on at one time that it is slow. I think the best time is at night when there is 53 members currenty on.

With so many members and guests on at any one time the servers are being overwhelmed.  I also gotten a message saying to come back later as there are too many connections.  Popularity brings it's problems.

My suggestion is that people donate money to Dirk's Simtropolis fund.

I remember a couple of years ago, when I first started coming here, the speed of the site was slower at times.

Last Saturday, horrible, horrible When I was trying to acess to the forums I got a message saying that there were so many connections. Sad so Sad (oh I hurt my feelings, I wanna cry I will never talk about this oh gosh I post it, well I can edit it )anyway when something similar happens, please try to be patient and wait 'til next day Thats what I did

well, i'm in Holland, and until about 8 o clock at night its doing ok, (8 o clock, GMT + 1.0 Hour) and after that it gets awfully slow, most likely because thats when all you Americans and Canadians hit the net and Simtropolis.

Surely there is a variation in speed when accessing ST ,but please remember these:

1. It is normal that it is slow at Rush Hour or when there is a lot of traffic on the site (different speed at different hours of the day/night)

.

2. This site is a free site and paid for only by our members with donations and therefore we do what we can allow ourselves to make this site function properly, even if it means a slower access sometimes.

 

3. And as Constantina said it so well and simple: Be Patient.

Running such a large website with just donationns is not easy so slowdowns will happen occasionnally. When they do happen find someting else to do such as do homework, cleaning, visit other sites or go out somewhere. Remember it is only a SimCity 4 fansite.

I don't even bother coming here during the day anymore, it just takes too long. I post in the morning, 3am-8am, before I go to school. It's alot faster here, and at most other forums since there is less traffic this early. It's really busy 9-5 because that's when you have all the Europeans and Americans online, that's about a billion people using the internet.

Hey guys, I know things have been wonky the last week or so.  I am actively working on improving things.  I realize it must be frustrating, but at times I've had to limit the number of connections to the site during certain hours for two main reasons: 1. so that the performance does not drop to a dead-stop, and 2. so that I can access the server sufficiently myself to perform tasks. 

 

I am testing some new technology, so I'm asking for your patience for the next little while.  Thanks for all the support everyone.
