Stunning what you are able to do with mods/add-on in Banished, only played it completely vanilla, years back. That looked very different from the good stuff you show.

Was just posting on "Meet the Bannies" board that Brad has just started over here  -  https://community.simtropolis.com/forums/topic/762603-meet-the-bannies/

And realized that I'd taken a picture the other night of me using the bridge from the newmedievalCastle mod to replace a wooden bridge over a river, this mod was designed for a previous version of Banished and has never been updated.

    Screenshot27.jpg.705a7b0fced21c484a1ef25b22595ad8.jpg

I also took this picture before setting my "bannies" to knocking down the castle, I may re-build it in a different location and so far I haven't quite decided what's going in its place

So the castle is gone and after quite some time playing around with the puzzle pieces from the "Mission Church" mod

    Boston2-Red.jpg.77ed05191ebc4b6946a4ff2553a97fe9.jpg

I finally settled on build plan .... some way to go before its finished but at least I've now got layout sorted out in my head

We are now starting to see Banished Mods being uploaded to Simtropolis, so if you look at my last post the Mission building can now be downloaded from here ... these are in an open club so I think you will have to join it if you want to download anything from firstly Kid's Mods here

And if its from another modder then its in the files section, so if you want the little black houses you can see in pictures in previous post then you need to download this mod, despite the description this should be all of them

You can download all of them, or separately, Port Royal has the black houses

    Maritimes Coverings Addon
    Maritimes Crystal Cliffs V102
    Maritimes Decorations V100
    Maritimes Dock Set
    Maritimes Humble Construction V1.0.2
    Maritimes Log Cabin Addon
    Maritimes NS Inshore Fisheries V103
    Maritimes PEI Shore Fisheries V105
    Maritimes Pine Set V105
    Maritimes Port Royal
    Maritimes Riffle V100
    Maritimes Sherbrooke Village V101
    Maritimes Storage
    Maritimes Trees

From now on if any of my pictures have mods that are available on Simtropolis, I will post a link to them as part of the village update

Next post will be update on how the "city" is going ....

So firstly to everyone especially @Brad, @TheMurderousCricket, @Tamijo  who have posted in this topic and  @CaptCity  who I've updated as to what I'm doing .... as you can see we are no longer the "Show us your banished villages" and in the SC4 Showcase board and this isn't for the reasons some might be thinking, so basically with a banished map you are restricted by how powerfully your computer is ... all those little "bannies" you see wandering around are individual people with names, lives, houses, jobs, etc and your computer has to keep track of every single one of them as some point it becomes impossible and your computer starts to show signs its having problems by either starting to stutter, or glitch or in the case of what is now Oconoma Village I am starting to get freezes happening, I think I might have another couple of months of building I can do before it becomes impossible .... at a minimum  i would like to finish building the walls and the canals, so will continue to do updates till that happens.

So what happens to Oconoma Village .... this is why the move, I have set up two boards in the City-Builders Club, the first is for villages that people can download and the expectation will be that the topic will include map information, if disasters are on or off, village layout and so on, basically enough information that people will know what they are getting if they upload the snapshot to their game's save folder, of which Oconoma will be the first as sort of test to see if this works and the second board will be for people to upload the last snapshot of their village, thru if people want to do progression snapshots (along with village updates) that will be fine and more than welcome.

    Village Topics

    https://community.simtropolis.com/forums/forum/381-banished-villages/

    and Banished Save Games

    https://community.simtropolis.com/files/category/155-banished-save-games/

I have uploaded a snapshot of Oconoma Village basically to make sure this works and to decide what's going to be considered essential information when uploading a snapshot .... as you can see from below

I will be continuing to update the mod list as @kid1293 has already uploaded a couple of the files that are currently linked to the World of Banished website, and in three cases where I couldn't identify where I had downloaded a mod I have included them as part of the download as otherwise anyone attempting to start up the village would either get a warning that the mods couldn't be found or it would cause a fatal game crash.

Everyone is welcome to download the village, but note that isn't the final release, also before anyone asks I have no idea if you would need a mod list if you are either building a village using MegaMod or the person downloading the snapshot is using MegaMod, hopefully that something we can find out in the future  *

This is usually the case with games that have individual unit simulation. Most Tropico series games have this mechanisms as well and I can recall that in Tropico 4 at least, one could not pass 1600 residents without using mods!

I'm not sure if I remember this well but individual unit simulation means that a game is running the so-called "ticks" for each unit, building, road tile and other animate and inanimate objects during the gameplay.

The greater the population, the more ticks a game has to run to account for each unit. At a certain level, this becomes very hard for some computers to keep up with and this is when stutter and problems will begin to manifest.

There is pathing program built in to banished, so I can click on a building and find out where all the people working or living there are going, from memory it does yellow lines everywhere, can't remember if you can do the same for the individual bannies .... and I think it does a couple of things as cycles, as you can set up an animal field then try and move the animals you have bought from the trading post to the field and for ages nothing happens then suddenly the animals will start moving

No matter what, its seems logical, that the higher the population is, the heavier the load on the computer. In a game like Age of Empires 1 (1997), it was just 50. Hard to imagine today that we played it and had a ton of fun *

I always downloaded an extra mod which allowed to expand the pop limit up to 200. *:D

If you have a modern rig or at least a fairly good gaming computer, you gain a lot of wiggle room with some games - even older ones. This was the case for me with Tropico 4 (dev recommended 1600 against my 4500 population with the game still fully functional) and Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2005 (plain bland course and stutter on old PC, full vegetation, bushes and real shadows on a gaming laptop).

It is interesting that your game bogged down before stopping. I don't remember mine doing that. granted it has been awhile and a few computer upgrades ago. Mine just crashed out. Could reload and it would crash at bout the same time. I was so close to the end goals of that map, that I kept trying to save it for a few days.

My graphics had always been slow. At a 10X speed, my game functions more like 1X or slower, based on some videos. To sped up game play, I had found a trick. I pause the game and assign construction projects or land clearing. Then un-pause the game and minimize the window. Found that the game would speed up considerably once it was minimized off the screen. In a few minutes Id pull the game back p and lots more was done than if I kept the game window open.

different mods have a huge affect on graphic use and can slow the game. They will cause the stuttering you mentioned. Try moving over a lake and zoom in. With no trees or wildlife for the computer monitor to deal with, the game should function better. The longest game played in Banished was done with no mods at all, if memory serves me.

So far or at least the last one was a complete game freeze, I was hovering over a lake watching a river entrance for the next trading boat to turn up as I'd had a order in for grape seeds for about 10 game years and was starting to wonder if I was ever going to see a seed merchant arrive ...... anyway the game completely froze, no movement or sound for about 1-2 minutes and then was a sort of jerk and everything started up again.

yes and starting to think I need to revisit the idea of building a canal all the way around the walls, as I built towns with much high populations and not had any problems, am taking a break while I think about it and playing my vanilla steam version of banished, finally having a serious attempt at getting the achievements thru so far I seem to be really good at killing off the bannies .... currently down to 9 survivors *:(

Maybe I should try that, having a fairly large PC and have a vanilla version of the game, as I would guess mods is a major issue if you want to get that high.

Was seriously starting to think I would end up with the tombstone achievement the way they all kept dying, but have turned a corner and now have the builder, livestock and "jack of all trades" badges  *

Good to hear your settlement is thriving.

Guess my idea of going for 5000 population will take a while, playing a "one year is one year" mod, and a rather tough one too.
