Hi there!

I'm aldebear, long time player of The Sims 2 and The Sims 3. (I own the fourth installment of the series but I do not speak its cursed name.) I played a trial version of SimCity (2013) in the past, and I own SimCity 3000 but I haven't opened that up in literally years. I've always loved tycoon and building games and I really wanted to try out the famous SimCity 4, so here we are! After a chat with the EA help desk, I finally managed to get a refund after I found out it was unpatched through you guys, lol. I'm currently downloading the game off Steam right now. So excited to see an active and very much alive community for another older game. If anyone has some tips to guide me in the right direction with this classic game I've never played before, let me know! Perhaps your favorite tutorials and mods on here? Hoping to join your guys' Discord as well. Can't wait to meet all of you! <3

Hiya, @aldebear. Welcome to Simtropolis.

The single most important mod for new players (IMO) is:

Then IH missing $$$ jobs fix and you may find about a million places saying it has to be DatPacked. That turned out to be incorrect. Just drop it in your Plugins and its good to go.

Another one I really recommend:

The NAM should probably be high on your list. It sorts out a lot of basic 'errors' in the traffic system. Read the documentation, the mod is huge and you need to make informed decisions.

I'd probably add The SC4Fix.dll from @simmaster07, just to stop annoying and avoidable CTD's.

Hi @aldebear and welcome to Simtropolis! *:8)

At the beginning of your mayoral duties, it can be easy to become overwhelmed by the sheer quantity of custom content. The thread here has many suggestions too for items to use, which really enhance the game. One big tip as hard as it might be, is to install things slowly. The game can still be fun (along with our FUN mod!) by using a concise selection of content. Then build up over time when getting into the game more and more. There really is so much to learn and discover.

Feel free to post questions in new and existing topics, and we hope you enjoy the community here.

You found the 2 worst sources for getting the game. Sounds like my luck!
