Hi you guys.  I'm hoping that you can give me some advice and helpful information.  I've been playing SC4 since around 2005.  Everytime I've changed PC/laptops I've basically had to start over and lost years worth of city and region building.

Any advice, links, or helpful info on the best way to transfer my SC4 for my old laptop to newer one would be very appreciated.  I used to have the CD version of course, but with Win10 I bought the digital thru Steam.  So its my plugins and cities/regions that I need to transfer so that I can start playing again on my new laptop.  My old laptop still has all the SC4 files, folders, etc.  And I also saved my Plugins and Regions folders to a flash drive.

This site has been so helpful and informative thru the years.  Thank you.

The only things you should need are your Plugins and Regions folders from Documents\SimCity 4. Note these are NOT the ones in the Install folder for SC4, but under your user files. All installs of SC4 use this same location for user mods/saves, so having copied them to your flash drive, it's just a case of adding a copy of those folders into the same place on your new machine.

Note that if you used the in-game supplied regions to make your cities, you should first delete the unmodified versions from the Regions folder to prevent conflicts. So for example if you used the London and San Fransisco maps, goto the Documents\SimCity 4\Regions folder and delete the London and San Fransisco folders before you copy the versions you played with previously.

Provided you don't do anything with the old machine until you've verified everything's transferred across successfully, there is no risk of loosing your progress again. If you are having problems or something isn't working, come back to us and we can work it out.

Head over to my Lot and Mod Shack to keep abreast of my latest developments.

Do you like custom textures, but don't like all the work involved creating them?, take a look at the Texture Automation options here. Change the look and feel of your transit networks, with the minimum of effort, for example customised versions of my Sidewalk NAM (SWN) and Terrain Grass NAM (TGN) mods, and much more besides.

New to the NAM? Check out my tutorials on YouTube. Latest upload: How to: RHW - MHO Roundabout Interchanges. (Nov 25).

p.s. - I'm MGB over on SC4D and a member of the NAM team.
