Traffic Simulator Buses Problem

Hi,

 

I am working with SimCity 4 on a mac computer with OS Big Sur.  I have downloaded the NAM39 with the Traffic Simulator and it is working fine.  What I would like help with is buses.  Not sure what I clicked on but the buses have taken over.   Does anyone know how to remedy this problem in the traffic simulator?  I use the buses I don’t want to eliminate them just decrease the amount of them.

Do you mean the bus automata (the number of vehicles visible in the game) or do you mean the proportion/share of travelers using bus services over the other modes? We're gonna need these screenshots to provide proper assistance:

• Open a city in which you've noticed the problem, zoom in close and show us the roads where you see a lot of buses. Make sure to use the traffic query (the cursor to check traffic volume anywhere you click) to see the numbers of users.
   
• If you were able to use the Traffic Simulator Configuration Tool (TSCT) program, open it and show your current settings. It may be possible to adjust them to reduce the number of buses.

 

Some possibilities I'm thinking about what's going on include these:

• Transit use is set too high for what you want to use (more sims want to commute through transit services). Keep in mind that, if you lower transit use and want to get lots of train use, you might need to set up a custom distribution of transit use by lowering the share of transit users and increasing the share of faster mode users (trains are faster than buses or car in most situations).
   
• You set the bus lanes option for the highways (buses travel faster on RHW and Maxis Highway and thus makes it more attractive for sims to commute by bus), it would be removing this setting.
   
• If it's the automata (the bus vehicles visible in the game, not the number of bus passengers), then this requires a tweak of the automata files. I can show you how this is done if this is your particular problem.

You need to look at which settings you have altered from their defaults, presumably one of them has given sims more desire to use Mass Transit, there isn't really a setting for busses. A knock on effect of this is the number of Bus Automata you would be seeing, because of the increased bus usage as a result.

Of course you could counter this by editing the Automata Properties to spawn less busses, but that's pretty difficult to do without access to Windows (all the SC4 tools tend to be Windows based). There is one option Mass Transit Usage, where you can alter the percentage of each wealth of sims preference between Driving, Mass Transit and the Quicker of the two. I suspect this is the most likely setting that would result in higher bus usage, but there may well be others too.
