Elevated RHW Neighbour Connection

Sorry if I've missed this topic elsewhere, but I'm just wondering if I've done this correctly. As unsightly as it is, is this how the ERHW neighbour connection is supposed to look for a L1 6C?

This is because only L2 RHW NCs are currently supported, these are legacy pieces from before when L1 became the new elevated standard. As such, you'll probably need to either go lower or higher for this to work. Right now, I'd expect traffic wouldn't use it, since the paths won't connect up, but if the visual issues don't bother you, it might be worth checking with the route query tool. If this shows traffic using it, functionally it's fine.

Head over to my Lot and Mod Shack to keep abreast of my latest developments.

Do you like custom textures, but don't like all the work involved creating them?, take a look at the Texture Automation options here. Change the look and feel of your transit networks, with the minimum of effort, for example customised versions of my Sidewalk NAM (SWN) and Terrain Grass NAM (TGN) mods, and much more besides.

New to the NAM? Check out my tutorials on YouTube. Latest upload: How to: RHW - MHO Roundabout Interchanges. (Nov 25).

p.s. - I'm MGB over on SC4D and a member of the NAM team.

I elected to go to ground level for the connection and up to L2 in the next city. As the RHW rises though, I noticed that when I hover over a few places it says "Rail". Is this just a minor glitch that doesn't affect functionality?

Yes, the query tool showing "Rail" on those tiles is a by-product of some hardcoded quirks.  The various starter and FLEX pieces in many of the NAM's components often utilize what we call "false intersections" (or "falsies", in NAM developer slang)--intersections between a network and another network (or sometimes, the same network with itself) that can't be ordinarily be drawn (or at least drawn easily) with the draggable network tools under normal circumstances.

Those "falsies" act as triggers to initiate overrides, allowing for draggable network content to take on new appearances and behaviors.  There are two "falsies" contained within the RHW FLEX Height Transitions (FLEX-HTs), one at the top, and one at the bottom--both are between RHW and Rail.  The tiles with the falsies are pathed with Car paths in these instances, and if you click over with the Route Query tool, you should see Cars, Buses, and Freight Trucks are using them, though hovering over may not show the volume count, since the Rail network isn't designed to report traffic from those transit types.

I'll note, there are plans at some point in the (hopefully near) future to turn the RHW Neighbor Connectors into FLEX items, using the technique outlined above.  The FLEXing of the NC pieces will end up adding support for all the RHW networks that do not currently have that functionality.

An option I use is create an embankment at an L1 elevation, which effectively makes the network operate at L0 relative to its embankment and L1 relative to the surrounding terrain. This works with all the RHW networks with L0 neighbor connections (showing RHW-6S). This preserves the elevation relative to the intersecting networks.

    Slightly related topic.

Somewhere buried in the archives here, there used to be a handy little trick to permit Maxis elevated highways to connect diagonally with a neighbor. I recall that it involved the L0-L1 Maxis highway transition piece...but beyond that, nothing. I used to use it, stepped away from the game for a few years, and have utterly forgotten how the frell it worked.

I apologize for the thread hijack, but my Search-Fu has utterly failed me on this one. Any help would be appreciated.

EDIT:  Turns out my answer was lurking over in SC4Devotion. I'm good to go. :)
