I have GOG SC4 running in my laptop's Win10 os, Sorry that i haven't noticed that Bug you referred to, May i ask that what's it is? I just thought you'd better to run the game without VirtualBox, That should make the hardware be better utilized.

After you find out your dedicated Video card, this thread would be helpful to use it.

For reference, Friend of mine has had a similar issue, he seems solved it by updating the driver of Graphics or adjusting resolution of SC4.

the virtualbox isn't finished been setup yet. as for the laptop it self, i have to check the screen width and hight

Ah, I changed my comp's language to CB's

Some parameters we could set them through shortcut:

as you see, SC4 doesn't support my laptop's resolution, so i have to add a -CustomResolution:enabled -r 1920x1080x32 so that the game keep it the same as my screen.

Ah, so do you have the same problem as DVD version? Or to say you even couldn't run GOG version?

1st off I haven't figure out in win 10 the screen width and height other then measuring  the screen with a measuring tape and that is 18"

2. i haven't gotten around to checking the graphic setting inside the game yet

3. the version from GOG loads up and runs but with graphic streaks in it

4. the DVD version that I have is an older Win 7 32 bit  that runs fine in Win 7 but won't run period on Win 10

5 i am been hit with so many things. it takes time to check them all out.

Aye, I know that feeling since I've been through that as well, I will try my best to help you. Let's start with finding how many Video cards are in your laptop, Just take your time, I'll be waiting here.

Or you could leave out step 1.2. by pressing Windows key+ R

Or by another way that right-click anywhere on the Desktop, then find out Display setting(couldn't show this due to chinese os)

I presume that also due to graphics problem, After you find out whether or not you have dedicated card, we may could fix it through editing the VideoCards.sgr and GraphicRules.sgr

It has been about 3 yrs since I made the jump from Win 7 Home 32 bit to Win 10 Home. There are so many changes in the OS it still makes go buggy. I still haven't fig out where to find the screen height and width. The process of elimination came about via, 1st I replaced the city in question with a backup, that didn't work, I replaced the whole region, that didn't work, I uninstalled and reinstalled the game, that didn't work,  I downloaded the whole game again, that didn't work. That's why I think there is a bug in the download. If this is the case then any changes to graphics card, drivers and so on won't make a dif. Add this to it. Other then this 1 game everything else in Win 10, games, prog's browsers and so on works 100% fine.

I payed GOG $19.99 to download this game. There download link for the stand alone offline game was hard to find. And other then an automated email message saying that there support team got the message.  They have been quiet as a toom.  Does anyone know where I can download SimCity 4 Deluxe that will run on Win 10 Home 64 bit without using VirtualBox?

Hiya @reble1, As i know, The GOG version is my best choice on Win10, before that i ran into some issues on steam version, Frankly, I also have issues on GOG at the beginning, but had solved them.

All i know about SC4, it's an old 32-bit game (except MAC), All Windows versions run with multi-process cpu and 64-bit os will has crashing down issue, that's why i added a -cpucount:1 to the shortcut so that it could only run on one cpu. and also i have to installed 4GB patch, Furthermore, This game is developed with DirectX 7, but now our dedicated Graphic card's driver basically doesn't support it anymore, whereas Intel's Graphic card still is compatible with DX7 (same company i guess), But most of intel cards including mine are integrated cards, its performance usually not that good as Dedicated card. so I used a trick wrapper software 'dgvoodoo', and modified the configurations of SC4 (GraphicRules.sgrVideoCards.sgr), which could performanced as a middle software between Game and Dedicated Card.

I thought that's same as i could run your Region in my comp, it proves the game and its savegame files don't have the problem.

So in-short,  Regarding SC4 in win10, I thought SC4 could run on Win10, It just sometimes we have to customize something for running decently, since we have different Hardwares and so on.

I just downloaded the 4GB patch. Do you have a copy of  "dgvoodoo" that you can send me? Everytime I try to download it Firefox blocks the download because Firefox thinks it has virus and other bad things inbedded in it.

it's ok, dgvoodoo is a free software, but as dege has said in his website

If you encounter a zip having password then use "dege" as password.

Sorry about that but I have to guard against permanent false positive alarms of packages of antivirus software noname craps on VirusTotal Google is relying on.

 I'm not sure if you could use it if you have other antivirus software in your comp.

I still suggest that try all these normal ways to run the game, since you may still need to know your Dedicated card or edit GraphicRules.sgr so that your game could runs decently. 

Anyways, it's really up to you, I will send it to you when i get home.

I found a place to download  dgvoodoo  but I had to use Google Chrome  to do the download. It wasn't my firewall/antivirus that was squawking  It was Firefox that was squawking. May I ask? what part of the USA u from? You must be a night owl like me.

I am going to try this approach  with my older verison of SimCity 4 Deluxe on DVD as appose to using virtualbox. I haven't even figured out how to make virtualbox work 100% yet.

Ah, I see, maybe firefox has a knowledge database which has recorded this file before dege add password to the zip file, I'm not sure about it, since i use Opera.

It is 2:06am pdt Friday morning here in Washington State. I have diabetic neuropathy and the pain sometimes keeps awake untill I get tired enough to pass out from the pain. Then I only get a few hours of sleep. I also can't go outside except for very early in the morning before the heat of the day or after sundown, again do to medical problems. About point 4 in post #36, The disc will only run on win7 if you do not have update KB3086255 installed in your system. This update disables the SECDRV.sys service that allows the discs built in DRM to function, ostensibly justified (in their eyes) as as a security risk. Windows 10 has this 'feature' built-in, meaning that it will not load the disc based version without some way of installing and enabling SECDRV on win10. To run on win10 you really need a digital copy.

 

The graphics problem does look like driver issues to me, had similar in past while trying to setup the game in Linux. If you follow the DXdiag thing in post #37 you can see directly which DX levels are supported in the Feature Level part of the drivers box. You are looking for 9_3 (9.0c in English).

Other then GOG and maybe Steam. or maybe buying a digital copy on eBay. I don't know where to look.

As you already have the very best digital version (which is the GOG one for offline installation), it's rather unlikely the game itself is the source of the problem. Buying other versions is quite unlikely to solve the issue. The graphic card and/or its drivers is the most likely cause of screen glitches.
