Upon installing Maxis Blocker and reading a topic about "Build all styles option does not work" I felt problematic. *:lol: So, I would like to ask/clarify something.

If I have Lot A & Lot B with the same growth stage and lot size, but Lot A has 10 occupancy and Lot B has 6 occupancy, the game would pick Lot A to grow on a zone since it has higher occupancy to satisfy the demand?
Is this the only factor for the game to choose a lot to grow? Are there other factors? Is it random?

Because I'm experiencing a situation where there is only this one group of lots, (I installed) grows for stage 1. Even if I have like 5 other lots with the same growth stage and lot sizes as the mentioned "group of lots" or even all tile sets enabled.
Has any of you experienced this too? What kind of solution/s did you do?

TBH, that's a somewhat obcscure topic. I am pretty certain (and I'm not the only one!) that occupancy does play an important role at least when:

  • the city is at a certain stage and doesn't progress any further for the time being
  • the conditions (mainly desirability) are good enough to not be a limiting factor
  • demand is much higher than the occupancy of any building that's available for the given stage

Your current situation would be a good opportunity to conduct some tests, really. Further factors that might come into play:

  • slope settings: the hillier your terrain and the more permissive the slope settings for Lot A compared to Lot B, the better the chance for Lot A to grow
  • other parameters such as building value: would the simulator prefer a building with higher building value (=tax income)?
  • building size: could the footprint of the building play a role, or the relation between lot size and building footprint, i.e. would the simulator prefer a building that seems to fill the lot to a higher degree than a different building, even if the values are identical?
  • lot size: would the simulator prefer to grow a 2x3 lot with 20 occupants over growing two 1x3 lots with 10 occupants?

These are just some vague ideas. I'm gonna page @CorinaMarie - she might have investigated along these lines or noticed something related during her other experiments already.

    Okay, I just got back from a stupid and embarrassing mistake I found out. :sly:

    I placed all the downloaded lots on the Program Files Plugin folder... Thinking it was working all along... But I'm sure I read a post somewhere where this person confirmed it was working though. o.O

    Something tells me because I created the "Plugin" folder. Long story short, my SC4 got 'corrupted' upon installing some tool. Instant CTD upon running it. (is what I thought) Reinstalled it to find out I don't have a Plugin on Program File, so i made one.

    Anyways, that's fixed now and I'm seeing them grow now.

    Thank you for this ideas T Wrecks, I'll be sure to run these tests as soon as I get the time. I might learn something from it.

    While I have run some in depth experiments ( CorIndustry - A Look at Vanilla Traffic, Detailed study of Sims average age, The 505 Year Education Experiment, & Maximizing Farm Income the Silly Way ) I've never looked into the balancing aspects of what grows and doesn't. Keep in mind I've generally always used Maxis content with the exception of specific Water Treatment and Power Plants (and some of @dk1's commercial in one particular city tile).

    With the Maxis stuff it seems they are already balanced such that any given home in the same wealth level with the same occupant capacity appears to be just as likely to grow. But even then I've not paid any particular attention to it as nothing seemed unusual when playing. I do know when medium wealth has just enough demand to grow it will often create a lot that's 2 x 2 initially and as demand rises it'll redevelop them as two 1 x 2 medium wealth houses side by side. Even NKO doesn't prevent this.
