Garbage management has a range?

Okay, so apparently, even though I have sufficient landfill capacity, my citizens are still complaining about garbage.

For obvious reasons, I place my landfills out of town.

Does this mean that landfills and incineration plants have a range (like hospitals and such)? If so, are there any mods that can change this? I mean, it's very unrealistic.

pls halp

If you look when placing them you can see that they do in fact have a limited range. I'm not sure if ranges are hardcoded, but if they aren't, just make a new landfill lot and give it as much range as you can, and see if that helps any.

Service buildings like landfills do not have any maximum range, the green "range" you're seeing when you plop down a hospital isn't its effective range, but simply the area it will provide a land value boost. They'll drive all across your city if they need to. But they can however get stuck in traffic and despawn, which causes them to start their route all over again and often they won't make it in time. Placing all of your landfills together often means they'll cause a lot of traffic as they enter your city, which often causes issues. Without looking at your city I would suggest looking at traffic first to see where they might get stuck and if they despawn.

For hospitals it would actually make a little sense that they have a range, but for landfills, not at all. I think you're right.

Regardless of how much sense range would make (cause it totally would), it doesn't matter for the game. The first service building with an available vehicle is dispatched when an issue arises no matter the distance. It's a bit stupid when your fire is right next to a fire station, but it has to wait for a fire truck from across the city just because that station had a truck available first, but that's how the game works. There's some mods that limit service vehicles to districts, but I don't have any experience with them.

I find garbage is just weird in this game.  It doesn't send trucks out in the morning to collect all garbage.  It collects garbage when a house is full and request it.  This makes garbage behave badly and wonders about randomly collecting trash all day long.  I do however find they will stay in their green coverage (as all service try to do), it's just when a request by a building is sent out, it takes the nearest vehicles available at that time.  Unfortunately, the nearest truck at that second is across the map.  Then you end up with all incinerators all sending out 2 trucks.  It sends them out evenly to help with the AI I guess.  It's suppose to be easier on the AI tracking this way.

But everything is on a timer in this game.  That's why there is so much spamming of all services in the game.  I think they just need the extra coverage as the services send out limited vehicles and short distances for timers.  I find each building needs service from the N. S, E, and W to have decent coverage and no complaints.  The garbage seems to be an exception, but it sure does seem to help them be at least in the N, S, E, and W of the map.  Maybe central as well.  They seem to get longer timers than the rest.  Probably because of all of the pollution.

Houses at the end of a long road often get neglected. As the garbage trucks work like vacuum cleaners on everything they pass, they may often just fill up on the way to the requesting building, which means they are full and turn around just before they reach the building. I had observed that in one particular case where I had an abandonment issue. The interval for requesting a new vehicle was just a bit too long to prevent the dispatched vehicles from filling up. Connecting a road from the other side with less houses on the way fixed the issue.
