Pedestrian and Transit-only Road

Hello,

I want to implement the real-life pedestrian and transit-only road. I also want to place transits alongside the road. I have questions about implementing them:

1. How do I filter roads? I want to develop BRT systems using NWM roads in some areas and normal roads.

2. I want some roads to be pedestrian and transit-only using pedmalls. How do I place residences in the front of the road?

3. Are there stations that pedmall-friendly?

4. Is the system is effective for any city sizes?

Thanks.

When you say Pedestrian and "Transit-only" road, I guess you mean public transport, i.e. buses? The issue here is that SC4's code works in such a way that a road can not be designated just for bus traffic. There is no way in the paths to specify bus traffic either, "road" traffic paths work for all valid road vehicles. Accessing the core of the game to alter this would not be a realistic possibility for most so you have to work with what we've got.

TE Lots can be set for specific transit types, whilst not ideal it does give a potential path to making this work. In essence you have two TE lots that don't allow cars or freight trucks, that way any road in-between such lots would be transit only. There are drawbacks though, since you may have major trouble with zoning, especially Residential in such areas (see below).

Can't be done with Pedmalls, because Residential sims can only leave a lot when next to a normal road-traffic network. Again a game limitation that's next to impossible to bypass.

Stations are not networks, but TE (Transit Enabled) lots, actually a better name is a Transit Switch. This is because such lots allow traffic to "switch" from one network type to another. As such, all stations which include Pedestrian switches (which they should), will work with Ped-Malls.

Insomuch as it would be if you could actually make it work.

Perhaps you should take a look here:

There are special RHW pieces able to filter out Bus Traffic using trickery. Combing those with a special unique network coded for the purpose would be a much better solution. But that requires someone handling the RUL code and making any textures, paths and other files necessary to implement it. A quicker solution would be to re-purpose an existing network, but that's still a decent amount of work. Either way, there is already some work and ideas on BRT, so probably better not to fork the discussion.

Head over to my Lot and Mod Shack to keep abreast of my latest developments.

Do you like custom textures, but don't like all the work involved creating them?, take a look at the Texture Automation options here. Change the look and feel of your transit networks, with the minimum of effort, for example customised versions of my Sidewalk NAM (SWN) and Terrain Grass NAM (TGN) mods, and much more besides.

New to the NAM? Check out my tutorials on YouTube. Latest upload: How to: RHW - MHO Roundabout Interchanges. (Nov 25).

p.s. - I'm MGB over on SC4D and a member of the NAM team.
