Lot Editor and Plug-in Manager Forum Archive 2007

This thread contains all of the stray topics created in 2007 in the Lot Editor and Plug-in Manager forum. This thread serves to condense those topics into one topic before merging into the new SC4 BAT & Lot Workshop forum.

However, all of the posts from the original threads are merged chronologically, which means that if two threads were posted in during the same time span, their posts will be mixed together, making it harder to read. To help with this, the title of original thread has been edited into the original first post of each thread.

Remember that you can use Ctrl+F to search through your current page.

Lot Editor and windows Vista

I installed Windows Vista a few weeks ago and days ago I installed the BAT but didn't get to use it until now. When I tried to run the Lot Editor that comes with the BAT it took long to load and then a message appeared saying "The program stopped working" and Lot Editor closes.

I've tried running it in compatibility mode, with administrative rights, disabling the visual effects and tried almost everything I can do to try to make it work, but it keeps crashing.

My question is, is there any way I can use the Lot Editor with Windows Vista? If there is, How?

You need SC4tool. It has an editor for doing that.

That's for simple transit enabling. To path a lot, that requires manual editing...

I had Win Vista a couple of months ago, tried it for three weeks and then I went back to XP. Heck, this was bad, very bad, most of my stuff didn't work properly with Vista (even Internet)......All new and nice and spectacular, but not useful nor pratical. Get back to XP is all I can recommend.

Sorry for not being encouraging.

99% of all the applications I used on XP are complatible with Vista or have a Vista compatible version, there's no point for me in getting back to XP. Well, if Lot Editor definitely doesn't work with Vista I'll have to edit my lots on my other XP machine.

    .....no problem gml_josea

, above was only my personal opinion of Vista. The majority of my games and programs (Civ III,The Settlers IV,1503 AD and others) do have serious problems with it. I even had to reinstall AOL four times to get it to work properly. Now I am back with XP and I don't miss Vista at all....lol

If you're satisfied with it is the main thing. Afterall it's your computer....2.gif

You can find SC4Tool in the "Modds and Downloads" section of this site. Make sure you get the update too.

Path making is a bit advanced, but can be done with one or two different 'beta' programs. You'll have to search them out for yourself. The best way is to search the forums with the phrase "path file".

Does the BAT come packaged with it's own lot editor, or do you mean the seperate one from SC4.com ? I have the seperate one, on Vista Ultimate, and it works fine. Apparently the non-64bit versions of Vista have come out horrible, due to microsoft having to cut down the technology for older kit.

SC4Tool is available here. Download both the program and the images a little further down in the list.

I'm running a Vista box and haven't noticed any problems with the Lot Editor. I initially had "issues" with other tools crashing, but nothing a shutdown and reboot couldn't cure (remember, Vista doesn't perform 'proper' shutdowns by default - it will try to "sleep" instead (i.e. standby/suspend)).

    Changing monthly costs

    Hello,

I have a lot under my parks and recreation menu of trees. It is a single tile lot but if I plop it then it costs my under the current circumstances §5 a month. For me this is to costly. That is why I would like to change it to max. §1. But the questions is: How do I do that?

I pressume this is the correct topic to post it under because I pressume I will need the plug-in manager and/or lot editor. If this is correct however, go easy on me in explaining how to do it because I have no experience at all with both of them.

Btw: Is it possible to have zero monthly costs.

You won't be able to change the monthy budget with the Lot Editor, or the Plugin Manager. You will need to use either the SC4Tools, or iLives Reader. They both may be beyond your experience, but there is no better time to learn than the present.

    Base textures required

With the fence lots on the STEX, they have no ground textures, only a prop.  I would really like to know how to do that.

You should just wait until it is finished loading. If you do anything other than move the mouse it will crash.

You can't do it in the Lot Editor. You must finish everything you want in the Lot Editor first. Make sure you have only one base texture on each tile, and no overlay textures (if you have overlay textures you may get the water graphics bug). Its easier if for each tile you want to be transparent, you give it the same base texture as each other, but a different base texture to what you have used anywhere else on the lot. Make a note of the texture iid that you use.

When you have finished the lot go into Ilive's Reader and open the lot file, then go to the lot config exemplar. Look for the LotConfigObjectData lines that where the first rep is 0x00000002 (these are the base and overlay textures). Look at the last rep on each of these lines and if the last rep matches the iid of teh base texture you have used on the tiles to be transparent, delete that whole LotConfigObjectData line.

You must Re-Index the Lot Config (right click anywhere in the right pane with the lot exemplar open then choose Re-Index Lot Config) before you save or it won't work in the game.

I've made a model in the BAT. I've exported it. How do I get the model into the the Plugin Manager? If I look now, it isn't in there. 42.gif

Make sure you are using the exe from the program files Simcity 4\Apps to open it, and not the exe that comes with the Plugin Manager Unicode fix.

Well, there is no "click a button and it's done" program for this task - you will have to do it manually by adding the necessary properties. This can be done either with the Reader or SC4Tool, but since the Reader is more advanced when it comes to adding new properties, it's probably more flexible. SC4Tool can copy existing properties just fine, though. Have a look at the tutorials that are out there and try it yourself. Most of the modding is done by examining and comparing the existing files closely, and then make the necessary modifications to other files in order to achieve the desired effect..

I personally would use Ilive's Reader, but that may just be personal preference. However most if not all of the tutorials will show the steps using the Reader. There is one by Simgoober in the Omnibus on modding Landmarks with jobs. Whichever tool you use you will still need to do the same basic things to get the job done, as Andreas said.

    Question regarding dependencies

    Hello all,

I just recently started modifying a few lots for personal use. I am getting permission from the creator of the original lots to upload them to the STEX. For that, I need to know what are their dependencies. Is there a software that does that?

I need to know badly or I just can't upload it.

    Thanks for the help

    Cheers

EDIT: For some reason the word [Edited by Sam. Circumventing the censor is not a good idea] is not allowed by the forum. I wonder if that's really necessary.

Start SC4Tool and open the Analyser/Importer. Now open your lot file and click on the entry with the green (or blue) dot in the list on the left (most likely, an "normal" lot will only have this one entry). Now click on the "Dependencies" tab, and you will see a list of dependencies. There are two areas, one of them shows the dependencies of the LTD file. This entry might contain false dependencies, so please have a look at the area where the results of the dependency scan are listed. Note: For accurate results, you should have all dependencies that were used during the creation of the lot in the plugins folder while starting SC4Tool. Otherwise, you might get some "not found" entries.
