Trees and air pollution

Do trees reduce air pollution as it was the case in SC4?

 

In other words, does the next picture have any sense at all?

At first sight it doesn't seem to be the case though.

Everything I have read says trees remove ground pollution but they die off quickly n u have to replant them.  SimCity 2013 has a Air Scrubber to clean the air

Trees just look pretty and make sure your fires spread more quickly. There is no air pollution in C:S, except in the aesthetics (brown clouds over industrial districts). The game only models ground and noise pollution.

Wow! I didn't know it wasn't actually modelled. I guess sometimes it's best not to know the truth
