Yeah the original Kmart stores (built in the 1960s) had standalone auto centers in the parking lots. The 70s stores and later designs brought them to being attached to stores. Most 80s stores for some reason did not have any whatsoever. Only select '90s locations had them. The plan was for a lot of stores that didn't have them auto centers, was to build them separately if the location were to have become a supercenter. But then the 2002 bankruptcy happened.

Question: Weren't they mostly paired with Penske Auto Centers, and then after the bankruptcy, Roger Penske exited the auto repair sector?

Kmart operated their own auto centers originally, but at some point got involved with Penske by having them lease the auto center space. The bankruptcy caused all Penske auto centers (at Kmart) to close. Most would sit empty or would be absorbed into being a stockroom or new garden center, but some would be leased out to a local garage or become a Sears Auto Center.

Interesting. I'm big into racecars, so, I always like seeing how the history of the auto industry's businesspeople intertwines with retail.

You mean the original logo that had the 'mart' in turquoise?

yep the infamous red and turquoise from 1962-1990 here's a sign that was similar to a Kmart in my native Kansas City

i know this seems much but i also imagine a Western Auto with a gas bar similar to a Canadian Tire or a Canadian Tire with a Mark's store

I have no plans to revisit Western Auto, but I appreciate the suggestion. I also am not making any promises in regards to the Kmart old logo, but we'll see.

Here's a progress report on Ingles which I was going to post the other day, but I was unable to do so:

    The brands just keep coming....

I've got 150+ brands in mind now and 118 are currently completed. The majority are real companies, but there are some that I came up with to serve an area where a national brand does not fill. I will also be doing a new building for larger brands found in strip malls such as Harbor Frieght, Tuesday Morning and more.

    Untitled.jpg

I will also include around 10 defunct brands, though one is supposed to make a comeback....

For The larger one could you do? Big Lots, BiMart, Ollies, Peebles, JCpeenys, Belks, and or TJmaxx/HomeGoods?

No. Those brands will not be done as part of this complex. They are bigger then I what I have in mind.

All right let's get some details up, shall we?

RR MSM (Modular Strip Mall) details:

    • 150 lots for 150+ different brands that can be found at strip malls that are no larger then 14,000 sq. ft.
    • 9 lots will be plopable as they will cover educational services and health related business that can sometimes be found at strip malls.
    • The other 141 will be growable just as the current packs come with
    • All related files to Walmart Plaza on the STEX will be removed as they are once I'm ready to go. I will be doing new uploads as part of a series
      • Likely will be three separate files, but we will see
    • I will not be able to do a lot with every possibility, this is where you will come in and make the plaza your own by adding to my existing setup or removing from it using the building props from the lot editor.
    • The 5 growable lots already made will stay the same. I plan to add one new mega lot which will be plopable.

I also would like to consider this project as not canon to the rest of my work. What I mean by this is that brands found in here may show up again in a more proper plaza fashion. The whole point of this project is to give the downloader flexibility in designing his/her own strip mall if so desired. There are some brands covered here that it will be unlikely for me to revisit though.

    Hi!

EDIT: I started this post a couple of weeks ago, but never finished! :D

    Quote

I checked The Shops at Simtropolis lot in iLieve reader, and it indeed doesn't seem to have jobs. They are static landmarks. Otherwise it's a brilliant lot complex! My question is, did you used the main model files for the building examplars? I assume you used the default PIM from Maxis and not the PIM-X. Sometimes later I could take a look onto it more deeply and come up with a functional landmark version.

So I checked other lots from you, and I see in the reader, that most of them don't have jobs, they are static landmarks. When I have more time, I'm gonna check all of them to see, but probably it would require making new lot/building examplars, than copying the DATA from the original lot examplars over to the new ones... However I'm sure there is other way to create new related building examplars.
If you didn't mind, later in this year I would take a look onto this and come up some functional "relots", and if you wish you could update the uploads with them... Just an idea and offer...
But if you need help with future LOTs (if you want them to be functional with jobs), let me know and I would be happy to help.

    @Tyberius06 YES, YES please!

Other than the making things growable for commercial purposes and/or the civic stuff, I really lack the knowledge of how the technical side of this game works. You have my permission to make my stuff functional and I would personally really appreciate this. I was actually hoping someone would offer their help in regards to this.

Enjoy these! A LOT of work went into them.

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

While on the topic, let me know through PM or reply below if there any brands you like to see me add in at a later date. I'm willing to add an additional 40 as long as they meet the criteria listed below:

    • No bigger then 15,000 sq. ft. in real life
    • Found in a strip mall
      • An example of where your request in real life can be found would be helpful (copy link from Google Maps to location or give me an address)
    • being a brand to locate in a low or mid-ranged shopping center.
      • No High-end retail chains or chains that prefer brand new construction

I mean he just did 150 brands, I'm sure there will be more in the future, like larger anchors for the stores. I would think a bigger one fit for a DG is a thought. Also, aren't Fred's stores larger?

I was going to ask for a Smoothie King for the set but.... *;)

Most Fred super dollars I’ve seen is about the size of Harbor freight, Big lots some out as small as Family Dollar and some out larger like the sizes of a Small Kmart but most our smaller.

I did do a regular Dollar General just to let you know.

Make sure you look before you ask, please! As @pclark06 said, there's over 150 brands in there.

A DG Market is usually at least 20,000 sq. ft., so this is not an option.

Fred's is doable as there stores can be anywhere from 8,000 - 25,000 sq. ft. It probably would be in the Harbor Freight building at 15,000 sq. ft.
