I downloaded your program, wou, and it also gave me the error message of requiring 1025 by 1025 when I tried to import a region map. 15.gif

OK, I accidentally posted a reply twice. So I deleted one. Now I can't tell if the post is two pages long or not and can't see my initial reply. So here it is again:

Then you don't have the config.bmp in the proper folder, or the config.bmp file is not in a correct format. If you can take a screenshot of your region folder, and post it here... that may help. Also, if you right click your region folder, and copy the path, and paste it here, that might help too.

This is the only way to make it work, and it should be put somewhere where all can read it. Seriously, I tried every way explained and wouanagaine's way IS the only way to go. This needs to be in the omnibus.

Could you list the steps you took, it's a little hard to know just what the problem is without knowing that.

I put the config and grey map in my region folder

    my docs

    program files

    maxis

    sc4

    made a new folder

    opened SC4

did the crl shift etc etc

    found the region

clicked on the grey map and nothing happened

also is there a difference where you go?

    my computer

you could go to HP admin thing and click on SC4 regions

or go to hard disk C and find the SC4 region folder

Let me give you a quick run down of the steps.

    With the game shut down.

Create a new folder in the C:\My Documents\SimCity 4\Regions folder.

Name it with the name of the region you would like.

    copy the config.bmp file there.

start the game, load the region you just made.

do the key press [shift ctrl alt R] browse to the grayscale [*.jpg] and select it.

If the name of the grayscale doesn't show in the selection box below when you select it,

you will need to type the name of the grayscale.jpg in the box.

The hour glass will appear if all has been done right, and the cities will cycle, but no terrain will show yet.  When it is done with the render your region should be terraformed.

The grayscale doesn't need to be in the region folder, it can be anywhere that is easy to browse to.

I did the same thing and nothing happened. I clicked on the the jpeg and the our glass didn't show up

My quess to why this region dosen't work is because the config and greay map arn't the same size. Shouldn't they be the same?

The grayscale needs to be 64 times larger than the config.bmp, plus one pixel.

The ratio of the  grayscale.jpg to the config.bmp is 64:1 plus 1 pixel.

    If you followed the steps I outlined, and nothing happened, then there are two things;

The grayscale.jpg is not a true 8 bit, 256 color grayscale image.

You have a wireless keyboard, that doesn't accept 4 key presses, and there should be a combination key for that.

Did you check to see if the image was a true grayscale? If you don't get a message saying the grayscale is the wrong size, then something else is wrong.

GreekMan, I downloaded the map [by Mallowthecloud], and rendered it with no trouble, except you will need a height mod when rendering.  Probably the "import.dat".

If you don't have a "Western" keyboard, that might be the problem.

If you are using a translator, then maybe something is being lost in the translation.

Other than that, go back over the steps I outlined above, very carefully, making sure all details are followed.

It won't bring up the rendering window, but if you get the rendering started, it will make the elevation right. When I rendered the region, it came up all water, because I didn't have the mod in the plugins folder.

I like many others are having the same problem as well. I followed the instructions at the start of this thread and when I run SC4 and click on the JPEG nothing happens. Config is named config. I should see something happening right? Just so you know, I was trying to make a city from the Amsterdam map I found here. How can I tell if the JPEG is the right size? I right click on it but that just tells me the file size not the scale. Thanks.

    Hello, Christo26.

As to your .JPG image, make sure it is a ture grayscale image -- that is, only 256 colors.

As to telling the size of the .JPG, if you are using Microsoft Windows, you should be able to place your mouse pointer on the graphic icon and a "tool tip" should appear showing the dimensions of the graphic.  Also, any graphics editor can be used to determine this.  Simply launch the editor, open the graphic and then use whatever editor function to check the dimensions of the image.

For instructions on how to install a map in SimCity 4, read the following article in the OmniMaps - Mapping and Terraforming Information section of the Omnibus:

Installing a Region Downloaded from the STEX

    Regards,

    Gary (Vandy)
