Hi,

I've decided to post this because I am having some difficulty understanding a few things on cities skylines, mainly to do with mods and source files.

I never had such difficulties in the past, but whenever I try to install mods manually into my cities skylines and then run the game, I get error messages stating that there are source files missing.

I'm currently experiencing this for the following mods:

445589127 - Precision Engineering

465127441 - Airport Roads

466158459 - Building Themes

478820060 - Network Extensions

497033453 - Unlimited Outside Connections

530871278 - Daylight Classic

586012417 - PloppableRICO

689937287 - Surface Painter

I'm also getting error messages for 553184329 Sharp Junction Angles stating that there is an Errors Building Assembly, I also get errors Detours.cs (70,13) CS0227 and Detours.cs (93,13) CS0227.

Now, I have both the steam version of the game and a CD version. What I've done is download workshop items from steam, which I then move into my CD version. Funny enough, I don't have any problems or error messages if I only have Network Extensions or Precision Engineering installed. It's when I start adding everything else that I start to also get error messages regarding the source files for all my mods. This is why I'm trying to figure out if these are genuine error messages or not?

I would appreciate it very much if someone can spare me the time to help me out. I've been in the chat rooms, but I get no response to my queries.

You're not running the latest version of the game, which is prob the reason for your problems. Also I'm not sure what you mean with a CD version - there's no (legal) version of the game which isn't attached to Steam - while Steam can be annoying you need it to get the updates for the game. Let Steam update your game and see if that fixes it.

OK, so you think that it's because I don't have an updated version of my game?

Source code messages can be ignored. Most mods are dlls so no source code.

Sharp Junction Angle isn't updated for Natural Disaster update even though the workshop page says it does. I suggest you try Fine Road Anarchy instead.

OK this is what I did. I opened up my mods individually, then I created an empty folder inside called source. When I loaded up the game, those source error problems disappeared. However, I still get the Sharp Junction and Angles. So I will have to remove that mod. However, what I did regarding the empty source folders, did I do the right thing? Are these errors false positives?

Not yet. My steam version only has After Dark installed.

I think you are right though because I didn't get the other version from steam; I got it instead from online via a friend. I'm just trying to see if I like the other dlc's before I decide to buy them, which I think I may have too. £33 is a lot of money for me. Hope you understand?

I'm doing that now. I'm just waiting for steam to accept my card details.

You don't have to buy the other DLCs to update the game. Just load up the steam version and let steam update it to the latest version. It also makes installing mods and assets much easier and keep them up to date

I've already tried that and my steam version crashed. I think it's because I have too many subscribed items? I had a lot of mods installed too, which I think conflicted with each other.

Btw you don't need to buy all DLCs. You can get a refund (under some  conditions) if you change your mind.

Yes I know this. This is why I borrowed my friends version of the game via online and used that to test out all the stuff that I'd like to subscribe too on steam. I've got a lot of subscriptions you see, and I think some of the mods conflicted with each other?

The thing is that when I added those empty folders within each mod I had and renamed them source, it got rid of all the error msgs regarding the source files being missing. I don't know if anyone has done this before?

    Hi,

If you're only experiencing the issues on the copy of the game you've borrowed from a friend, I can only imagine that this is the cause of your issues.

We can't provide any support for copies which are not legal, and for Cities Skylines the game needs to be installed through Steam. Can we keep the issue related to the Steam version you have, instead of the borrowed copy?

The fact you mention the game crashes for you whilst loading up the Steam version; do you get an error message, or does the game crash at any particular point (eg loading up a city)?

A thing to keep in mind is that on a technical level, mods are not being updated for a DLC release, but for the accompanying game update (SF was 1.5.x, ND is 1.6.x) - this is because a DLC is basically no more than game play-features making use of the updates, changes and additions that have been made in the Core: every player has all the game mechanics installed, a DLC just taps into those resources. So whether you actually own the DLC or not, the base game is always the same version (currently 1.6.x), and is always auto-updated through Steam as soon as it gets the chance to do so. If that hasn't happened, either your Steam client hasn't been online since the release of that update, or the used copy is a bit shady (either illegal or not your own).

Hi, sorry for the late reply.

I've now bought all the DLC's on steam and have cleared most of my workshop items. However, when I decided to re-download only a few of them, I get this error msg.

    Broken assets:

Now, I have downloaded these assets before and I've made sure that they all have their respective dependencies. So I am wondering why I'm getting this? Please, if anyone can help shed some light on why I'm getting these msgs, then I'd be grateful. : )

Duplicate Prefab means that the asset is found twice by the game.

Check your profile directory AppData\Local\Colossal Order\Cities_Skylines\Addons\Assets folder, if you have assets in there that are the same as the ones you subscribed from the workshop, it will throw the duplicate prefab error.

I see, so it's nothing major, I don't have to worry about it?

I have two more other questions to ask if it's OK?

    1) Are those duplicate files created by subscribing and unsubscribing?

    2) What is the explanation for the error regarding Joak's Airport?

I think that Joak's airport uses sub-buildings, which means it basically combines various separate assets into one larger one. This is useful firstly to make buildings that are larger than the asset size limits that CO have implemented, and secondly - and perhaps more importantly - it is used to mix various otherwise incompatible functions into one and the same building (like the vanilla international airport, which combines an airport with a subway station). The error in your case is the same as all the other errors you see, just one for each of the airport's sub-buildings.

Un-subbing should remove all assets from your hard drive once you start the game again after the un-sub action. So un-subbing and then re-subbing without actually loading the game in between should - in theory at least - do nothing (not sure if that's what you did, though). Most common cause for duplicate assets is that you are both subscribed to the Workshop version and have a local copy of that asset, and both are activated in the in-game Asset Manager.

Sometimes all you have to do to get duplicate assets is have autosave turned on and open up something in the asset editor. You have to be careful not to accidentally unsubscribe to an asset when you delete the autosave.crp file too...it's better just to go into the assets folder in the computer's file system and delete by hand :-/
