Is PEG PPond Lock on STEX/PLEX?

Hi! :)

I'm about to put together the dependency list to my Seaport Project and I ran into a little problem. I put the current dependency links into the read me documentation and when I wanted to attached the link of the subjected file I couldn't find it on the STEX. I found the old CSK2 Lock, but did not the PP Locks, what I use for each of the transition lot. I don't know if I overlooked something and the mention file is on STEX, or it has been left out so far? Can someone confirm the current status of this file? And if the file is on the STEX, can someone navigate me into the right direction for example with a link? :)
And if that file isn't on STEX, who has the right to upload that one?

Thank you in advance!

Regards,

- Tyberius06

Is this not the one you are after?

Head over to my Lot and Mod Shack to keep abreast of my latest developments.

Do you like custom textures, but don't like all the work involved creating them?, take a look at the Texture Automation options here. Change the look and feel of your transit networks, with the minimum of effort, for example customised versions of my Sidewalk NAM (SWN) and Terrain Grass NAM (TGN) mods, and much more besides.

New to the NAM? Check out my tutorials on YouTube. Latest upload: How to: RHW - MHO Roundabout Interchanges. (Nov 25).

@rsc204Sadly, no. I found this, but this one is the old. What I'm looking for that's the new one the Peg PPond Locks. This was made in 2006, the new one 2009.

@Yarahi This is the base file, the lock is a separate upload was back then on SimPEG.

I have the file, because I downloaded nearly everythin from the SimPEG in the winter of 2012-2013.

EDIT: I attached the original readme of the mentioned file.

At least  @catty-cb has the file on CBEX - but you need to be a member to download it seems

Yepp, I see. Fortunatelly I'm a member. :) And yepp, CBEX has the file.

The only question, is there a way to upload the file here? I don't know who handles now the PEG files here and there and who has the permission to upload it anywhere.

I can point the readme link to the CBEX and after someone uploads the file here, I can edit it. But if this unfortunate situation will be solved today or tomorrow, I can pospone the pack upload a little bit.

    Maybe best leave that to the PLEX on STEX-forum;

They have their own team to handle uploads of this content

Have you tried actually using the CSK-2 Locks? I think they were intended as a replacement for the PPond ones, hence no upload for the old ones. After some checking, it does appear the props are identical.

@rsc204 It is the water texture that is different from the original CSK-2 to the PPond ones..

The entire collection of variable-width CSK2 Canal Kit lots have been remodeled to use the new PPond style water.  Not only does this allow you to seamlessly transition  PPond rivers and lakes with canals....

@rsc204 No I haven't tried, because I haven't downloaded that old CSK2 lock. But the new one (what I have) seems different and has its own resource file what contains the models/props what I used for my lot.

Perhaps, but the props override each other. So it's an either or choice. In which case the user will presumably have decided which of the two styles is best for them and installed that option. In which case, it's probably better to link to both options, since some may still be using the older CSK-style water. Either way, things should be setup the same for other CSK models too. Depending on the setup a given user has installed from the PEG files, the same props should link to whichever choice they have.

In any case, if for the time-being the files are on the CBEX, I think there is no need to rush in trying to upload the alternate files to the STEX. Realistically, most users are going to have these files anyhow. Linking to the CBEX is not likely to prevent users who don't have PEGs content, from using these new lots.

Well, the old CSK2 Lock is one tile longer than the new PPond Lock, but anyway it looks fine, just visually the lock doors are too close to the bridges. On the pictures those are PPond Lift Brideges, but I can't test the rest of the lot where are two lift bridges - a rail and a road - with the old settings, because I don't have the old CSK2 lift brideges (neither on CBEX).

But yepp, if some one uses the old style CSK system it can work with this lot anyway...

Pegasus was also putting things into Mega (or Super) packs, it was on my to-do-list to go thru the files I'd uploaded into the CBEX and make sure they were actually missing from the STEX rather than a case of being replaced or merged into another file.

    Hello again!

The question is still remain. Who can and most importantly when can upload the mentioned file here to the STEX

The problem with the old set is, that I couldn't find for example the old CSK2 Lift Bridges, so actually who doesn't have those and can not download the PPond Locks either, that person quite stucked between two chairs, because can not use the lot with either sets.

So and upload would be necessary, IMO. :)

    Thanks

I'm sorry, but you may find this request is not an easy one to fulfil. PEGs EULA pretty much forbids what you are asking to happen. When SimPeg went down, some of the old SimPeg staffers moved some files to the "PLEX on the STEX" part of the site. But it should be noted that not all of PEGs files were ever on the STEX, nor were some updates posted here either.

To my knowledge, only a few people have the rights to re-upload this file, but they are not very active around here. That would most likely be either @blunder@Craig-Abcvs or @Pegprod, although that last one probably goes to the first two anyhow.

Whilst I understand it's not ideal, the files do exist on the CBEX. Sure, some users may not be happy they have to create an account there to download. But that's no different from the LEX exchange either. If a user complains about this, explain it's not within your control. For example, yesterday I came across a user comment (on a random download) moaning "you could make installation easier". His complaint was that someone included a Cleanitol file, which is intended to make life easier, and totally optional too! As a creator, you'll soon find the range of user comments can sometimes be mentally challenging.

You can't control where files are hosted or if they are available at all. For over 8 months, you couldn't download the dependencies for my biggest mod, TGN. There was nothing I could do except explain the situation.

So perhaps one of the old PEG team can help you, but it could take a while to get hold of them/action your request. But there are no guarantees, at least the files are available if someone absolutely needs them.

    Thank you!

Oh I see. I didn't know about these circumstances with these files. Well I'll make contact with the above mentioned members. However I do not understand why they haven't moved all their files here after the SimPEG site went down, but obviously that was their decision so, I don't have business with that.

    Thanks for the help! :)

P.S.: Yepp I know about the used to be dependency issue of the TGN Mod. Fortunatelly that problem has been solved. :)

The thing is, when the site went offline, things had been real quiet there for a long time beforehand. I'd say the biggest issue was lack of resources, efforts were made to get the bulk of the content moved over. But some content was already on the STEX and a lot of the files have gone through many revisions. Trying to unravel all of that would have been a mammoth task, but the bulk of the content did indeed make it over quite quickly.

It's also worth pointing out, this was by no means a managed transfer. One day, we all went to SimPeg, but it simply wasn't there. A database failure I think was the cause, but there was no backup of the site. Given it was a ghost town and that all the old content was pretty much lost forever, I think the decision to move on was probably the right one. But I can think of many plausible scenarios why the PLEX on the STEX isn't all it could be in terms of completeness / organisation. Ultimately, if a job needs doing around these parts, someone has to find the time to do it.

Catty pretty much took the initiative and has since managed to restore much of the remaining unavailable content. Understandably however, she has done this on her own website first, not the STEX.

It was only ever meant to be a temporary solution, but as you have pointed out in a previous post the people responsible for "PLEX on the STEX" aren't active anymore, I certainly would be happier if all the files were over on the STEX ...and that includes Paeng's forum attachments, but as you have pointed out

Between real life and work commitments and running a website it really doesn't leave a lot of spare time for doing this ... plus there is Krio's files as well to sort out.

As for the CBEX I've been down the path of public downloads more than once it never works out well ... and I've always been forced to go back to requiring people to set up accounts to download the files ... remember people can login in using their facebook accounts, and I'm expecting when the site upgrade happens and we go from EasySocial 1.4.12 to EasySocial 2.0 that people will be able to use other logins to access the site.

I'm amazed that some much was saved and moved here.

There were several files over on SimPeg that were very old and not supported anymore, but very complete.

I remember seeing somewhere that a big chunk of Pegasus' transferred works, not already on STEM, actually came from the computer files of various individuals!

If an "older", unsupported, file isn't available on someone's computer it's probably lost for good.

It's great that so much of Pegasus' new content had already been uploaded here. But to have so much of the older stuff found and also added, just amazes me.
