How do you narrow / change a road without the buildings disappearing?

How do you narrow / change a road without the buildings disappearing?

I have a few wide avenues which I wants to replace with narrow streets with a park down the middle...when I try this I have downgrade the roads to narrow streets - but then after a moment the building all vanish! Is there away to do this and keep the buildings in place?

with the game paused...

change the road size as you normally would.  use moveit mod to then move the grow-able building back to the roadside so it dont despawn.  you may also have to rezone the tiles before unpausing the game.  

basically if tiles are zoned same as building is and building is under 1 tile from road side it wont despawn.

that was my first post... but been playing CS since it came out.  just now getting into the community side of it...
