Hi, If there are 4 cities and I lay down a rail road or avenue or road in this format, will it lead to the Commuter bug ?

Please see attached image.

Thank you

This setup will probably suffer of the so called Eternal Commute bug.  I have a very similar city layout and I'm tired of clogged streets near the area where all 4 corners meet. Road traffic is maxed out at 65536 commuters in my case, which basically means the area is seriously gridlocked. They aren't "real" commuters, but just going round and round...

You can find more info on this bug in threads like this [link]. Maybe it will be useful for you to avoid the problem.

So can this work? The white line can be a avenue or Highway.

That would work fine. Remember the issue is caused by corner adjacency. If there arent any neighbor connections in corners, the less likely this bug is to happen. Arranging your networks in a tree-lined pattern across cities (as opposed to the more realistic grid) will also prevent this from happening.

Also, eternal commuters have a harder time immortalizing themselves when the loop is spread over 5 or more cities (e. g. long, multi city loops), since the extra gap promotes working in town, as opposed to continuing to commute.

Since @A Nonny Moose isn't here to post this, I will on his behalf: If you do have eternal commuters, you can put several toll booths in their path to garner some decent income.

@CorinaMarie That's actually a pretty good way to subsidize eternal commute in your region. People will often take toll roads less, and sims are auto-programmed to avoid them. This will result in an ability to find jobs more

If you wanna check and know, if city tiles have eternal commuters already, there is a simple test to find out. Start the game, load a city tile, pause the game, delete everything on that tile, and I mean everything (water pipes included), dezone everything so that your tile is empty like a new one and than run the game a while. The residential count should drop to 0 (zero) shortly after it. If not, the remaining citizens are eternal commuters. I had a very old city tile way back from the start and test cycle with 1018 eternal commuters. A few
savegames later the number of eternal commuters was reduced to 748. So it seems that during game play this number can change both ways. :)

    Kind regards!
