...Transportation Update?

I don't remember a "Transportation Update" as listed on the Screwpile Developments website: https://screwpiledevelopments.com/screw-pile-exchange-spex/maxis-files/

I have NAM and the Steam version of SC4, and I don't remember this being a must-have...is it required if you have a fully-patched Steam version, or is it a helpful enhancement?

It's what adds elevated rails, ferry systems, monorail, wide avenues, historic planes, trains, automobiles ... and more! Also, the air force base reward. I don't know, however, if that is already included in the digital version or not.

Actually, the only thing it adds is the Air Force Base.  It was one of the small updates (like the landmarks) that Maxis provided after release.

No.  It's not included in the EP1 Update 1 or BAT Nightlight patches, which are the patches that are already in place with the Steam version (and most other digital versions).

Its not needed, but if you want an Airforce Base then you are going to want it, see here on the wiki

Making things more confusing, the Air Force Base is already listed on the "extra landmarks" listed below the main updates.

Not really, he's included the MAXIS version which is an installer and he's also provided the DAT file as well, I'm assuming he was catering to Windows users and MAC users by providing them separately

Thanks for the clarification. The real confusing thing here is the name of that update... "transportation.exe"... Boy, without that everbody would be able to figure out, what's going on. But that might be too easy.

It helped that a few years ago when I was setting up an data exchange for SC3K official updates I also did the SC4 official updates as well

and had quite an internal debate at the time as to whether I should be doing the same thing, in the end decided against it as they aren't my files and I felt it was important to provide them exactly as they had been on the official site.
