How to break asset workshop link

Hi. I have created some assets locally based on workshop items. Somehow these "new" assets keeps their link to the original workshop asset.
Are anyone else experiencing this?
Do anyone know how to break this link?
This does not always happen, but it does sometimes.

As long as the names are different, it shouldn't matter at all. If you'd like to break the link, then you should unsub from the original asset. Might need to restart the game afterwards and I'm not sure if it appears again if you resub.

When the link exists, the new asset can't be uploaded to the workshop and the "improved asset icon" mod gets confused.
Also the steam icon is shown at the load screen in the asset editor.

I would be nice to have a way of breaking the link, also I don't undestand why the link is carried over when saving as a new asset. I guess there might be a deeper mening to that, perhaps it's relevant for updating existing workshop assets..

I just tried your suggestion. When i unsub'ed the original workshop assets the link was broken. But when i resub'ed the link was reinitiated.

Perhaps i should try to save the new asset as a new (new) asset while the link is broken.

Hmm, well normally you wouldn't upload an edited version of someone elses asset (at least without permission), the exception maybe being a modified park. I haven't really encountered the issue you're having, so I'm afraid I'm not much help. I usually don't want to keep the original asset if I modify it (stats & props), and in the cases where I do I haven't wanted to upload them to the workshop. Maybe upload is possible after unsubbing while the link is broken. Dunno what happens when you sub to both though. I guess the new one should get a new ID when it's on the workshop, since uploaded buildings and props vanish from saves when the local copy is replaced with the workshop one.

To circumvent this, always choose "New Asset", then use the asset you want to edit as a template
    .

@Avanya Certain modders (like me) allow the modification of assets as long as you give credit.

Thanks, I will try that. I wonder if that will work with intersections also.

In which case you'd already have permission and everything is fine :)

Not exactly. The original and the new asset seems to share the connection to the workshop.
My "new" local asset can't be deleted via the asset manager in-game. The delete button is the "unsub" button similar to a workshop item. Pressing this button means I unsub the original asset and not deleting my own creation.

I don't contest this is a bad thing, and in a way it is preventing "copyright violations", but I'm not sure this is intended from Collosal.

Perhaps it is a way of making sure that there are no dual-assets.

even when you choose "New Asset"? Did you enter the same file name? That might cause problems.

I didn't use the same name.

By the way, using "new" is not a posible solution for intersections and parks. Since these can not be based on an existing asset.

    It works for parks.

Just to expand on what boformer said, you pick building and then park to use it as the template. :)
