I usually use wind power to power any isolated areas.  Also, there are some lots on the STEX that provide power but are "invisible".  Do a search on the STEX for "power" and see if any of the search results fit you needs.

Add my vote here too. They look nice. (I haven't yet gotten to any add-on goodies.)

Also, power will travel via bridges, so if have a bridge between two islands, as long of them has a power plant, and electricity leading to the bridge, your set.

Whoa! Really? I love learning new things. :)

Now, as a neophyte, the potential dumb question: Is that feature part of the Base Game or NAM or something else?

It is in the base game.  If a bridge is powered at all, it is from end to end.

The lot linked above also leads you to

which can be used to avoid the power cables, and the onsite wind power lots.

yes but only the bridge itself and not the approach roads, so I usually use a grass tile to make sure the connection is complete.

Another option is fake zoning. Zone next to a road or street whilst holding the CTRL key, then still holding CTRL, drag the zone "through" the street. When you let go of the mouse, it may not look like it's done anything. But you should see that sidewalks appear where they previously did not. Note how this provides power, it's a very useful trick.

Head over to my Lot and Mod Shack to keep abreast of my latest developments.

Do you like custom textures, but don't like all the work involved creating them?, take a look at the Texture Automation options here. Change the look and feel of your transit networks, with the minimum of effort, for example customised versions of my Sidewalk NAM (SWN) and Terrain Grass NAM (TGN) mods, and much more besides.

New to the NAM? Check out my tutorials on YouTube. Latest upload: How to: RHW - MHO Roundabout Interchanges. (Nov 25).

p.s. - I'm MGB over on SC4D and a member of the NAM team.

Then it gets better...

Try zoning different types of zoning and see the difference ;).

Want a random stretch of road to have dirt next to it? Use the I-AG zoning. Want full sidewalks without grass, use Med/High density R/C zoning. It's tremendously flexible.

Indeed it would. *:)

It's in this section of a map I created using Fractal Terrains by ProFantasy (the companion program to Campaign Cartographer 2).

5967937d65175_FT2Region.jpg.24e6ab833e53b6fa6657e913a855cdf3.jpg

This is one of my better maps on my quest to learn all about creating them on a regional scale and then importing them into SC4. Once I get the hang of it, I'll make larger ones. I'm playing with this small 6x6 pixel region to reduce render time. (And, @Granpa: No, I still haven't played with the one you suggested. I've not finished learning the ones I already have. I'll get to yours sooner or later tho. Tis no hurry.)

For the curious: The r3 part means I used random seed number 3 and the 50w is that I made it 50 units wide in FT's world creation screen. I'd then have to check, but this might also be the one where I raised the max height and depth to 40k feet each from the default 30k. (There's like a few dozen options for everything in this program.)

Learn something new every day.  I didn't know about the zoning trick.  I would count this as a bug if I was doing QA on the program, but since it is there, use the knowledge.

It really shouldn't be possible to drag a zone along a street or road.
