Your best bet is to search the STEX. The popular files there will give you some good mods and skyscrapers to start with.

Hello Oly, welcome to Simtropolis :) . There are so many buildings at the STEX that it's easy to feel overwhelmed. Just take your time to find whatever you wish and try to resist to the "nice stuff, take them all" temptation :D

"If you try to please everybody, you often times end up pleasing nobody, especially yourself. When somebody offers to do a favor for free, like making a mod for SimCity 4, you shouldn't be overly critical of something generously given to you. In other words, you shouldn't look a gift horse in the mouth." - Twilight Sparkle after playing SimCity

"Being a mayor or a content creator for SimCity 4 is a heavy responsibility, Patrick. Each city and each custom content is like a child, and must be treated as such." - SpongeBob Squarepants after playing SimCity

"Without deviation from the norm, progress is not possible." - Frank Zappa

"The wisest men follow their own direction." - Euripides

Welcome to Fairview, my new city journal *:D

Hiya!

From one new and slightly overwhelmed member to another, I'm jumping in to explain what the other members are referring to.

The STEX is the ST Exchange. Look at the menu bar up near the top of this page. ST Exchange is the one nestled in between Forums and City Journals. Click that. Then over on the right side you'll see Categories and under it there is a section for SimCity 4 Buildings. It has the clickable subcategories below that, but go ahead and click on the SimCity 4 Buildings link. Now you will see the subcategories and everything on your page will be for SC4. Or, more specifically, for SimCity 4 Deluxe / SimCity 4 + Rush Hour.

Here's a direct link to get you there: SimCity 4 Buildings

It's usually assumed you have patched your game with the two patches that were issued by Maxis as most of the modded content requires that. (Ask about that if you need help.) Then keep in mind that some of the items you download require other items they depend on, aka Dependencies. I haven't downloaded any of the wonderful buildings or props or anything there yet, so other members will be able to assist you better if you run into a problem. From my reading here, I believe you will see weird brown boxes in your city if you are missing the dependencies your new content is expecting. That's fixable too. (Again, just ask if it occurs.)

Edit: Oh, and if you have the digital version of the game instead of the CD version, your game already has the required patches.

Thanks for the link on that. I know this isn't my thread but that helps. :)
