So what I'm getting from this is that, either I'm going to have to delay writing this essay so I can play with Mod Tools, or your little guide will just compel me to finish it sooner. Hopefully it's the last one. Can't wait to try this out! :D

Network Skins will support changing network textures in the future.

You could also write a static mod (like American Roads) to replace the textures.

Precisely why I voted for Network Skins for your April project ;)

This is straight up amazing.  @Leto - is that your own custom texture on the quays?  Wow - looks amazing.  Anyway that can be shared?  :D

Nice! Skinning the quays!  Goodness, this game provides copious amounts of dopamine. XD

I am tempted to use your advice and make a static mod to replace the quay textures, if my impatience gets the best of me lol

Cheers for sharing this trick with mod tools, extremely useful!

That was really a lot of fun, I spent hours using mod tools last night thanks to your tips.  I noticed in the road skins the intersections & lod have a separate texture space.  Same thing with the quays needing lod texture.  I'll save my quay & wall skins for a network-skins compatible option when the time comes.   I just wanted to thank you again, now the mod tools is far far more useful to me and im understanding the game setup much better too.  Cheers!

no damn lol, I didnt make any but they looked just like yours since I used your example textures, I tried the awesome brick road & quay,  mostly what I was doing was digging all around the various bit's & bobs that you can see with mod tools, some aspects are making more sense to me now.   I wasnt able to find where the intersections get their texture (only lightly looking), and stopped because I figure its best for me to make a mod that goes with the network-skins structure.  There are several types of retention walls I want to make for quays, and perhaps some skins for the castle walls too.  At the moment im about to import my first asset, working on some glowing burning lava plops :D

    Welkom, Tim!

Looks nice! Too bad you can only use one generic gravel texture for all purposes. Gray gravel (rock bed) would look much better here, but not in other situations, like a park trail.

    Thank you Judazzz!

I thought I was smart by removing all of the Alpha area's but the game doesn't really appreciates that..

On a completely flat surface, the gravel on the side doesn't show at all (only between the tracks), this screenshot was taken on a slight slope.

Now that I have your attetention, I want to say I hope we can have custom catenary's at some point to complete the picture of a High Speed Track. I believe boformer was considering to integrate it into Network Skins? I hope he can inform us more on that topic :)

FYI, with more train tracks mod you can lay tracks with just grass & no gravel at all, or use concrete,  or maybe more?  :) Also most importantly lay track with no wires, I never use wires since they're extremely uncommon except maybe for street trolleys & some messy looking metros.  Theres also the ability to add lights on non-elevated tracks.

@Macronomicus I know that mod, look who made the screenshots for it :P I don't use wires either because I'm building an American style city. At some point I do want to use wires for the more modern lines, but I hope custom portals are an option by that time.

It's indeed an excellent mod and I hope more options become available (with either that mod or Network Skins)

oh hahaa :D  Just trying to be helpful.
Yeah the wires can look nice in the right context,  I wonder if network skins will replace the train tracks mod? Seems to be very similar setup and might be best together.

Im making some Florida style elevated highway retention walls, I was doing it by hand with custom props in game lol, now I can just skin the quays, and/or figure how to make "pillars" for elevated roads that cover whole segments from end to end, instead of spaced.
