NYC Elevated Train Ride + Tutorial how to build

To celebrate the stacked train station that was released by MrMaison, I created this video. I could watch it for hours...

The video features Feindbilds Brooklyn Theme, Attercaps American 1900 theme, the Metropolitan Soundpack created by Marcy, and of course the wonderful NYC subway trains created by MrMaison.

I also created a little tutorial to explain how to create these stacked tracks. Of course you could also use 'No Pillars' to place down the road, but then you will not get a nice zoning grid.

At the end of the video, I am demonstrating how to fix errors in the zoning grid by upgrading roads.

Nice tutorial. So is it just fiddly to get the track stay up, or did I miss something?

Btw, why does everyone butcher Feindbold's username :D?

Maybe because he uses 2 different nicknames ("Feindbild" and "Feindbold")? And it contains the syllable "ei" which is not known in the english language.

Oh, indeed he does. I should use my reading glasses.

As tot the syllable "ei", it is actually quite common in the English language. However, "fiend" is an actual English word, so I can see that (the closest real word with "ei" would be "feint").

Regarding my question concerning the tutorial, I take it is indeed just fiddly, you have to adjust height next to the road and hope it carries over when you switch back.

I'm always struggling to work out which name to use: iirc. his nick on Steam is Feindbild (which is a normal German word - pretty much the same as an enemy stereotype with a very negative connotation), but here and on Reddit(?) it is Feindbold (which afaik. isn't an actual word), and users come up with the most creative variations of these two.
Perhaps Mr. Brooklyn would be a better name by now :D

    Anyways, very useful video, BF!
It looks a bit finicky, but practice makes perfect! Now all I need to do is work out which parts of my city to destroy so I can implement an "L"-train (and figure out a way to sell it to the Cims who will be affected...)

I don't get this to work like in the video. I tried a few times, and I managed it once (and only one section) with a 12 m setting from a station. I can drag from station to station, which looks like this:

    AxR4V2B.jpg

But that was just a check whether it worked at all. It never worked with 9m. I disconnected the side roads in order to see whether it makes a difference, but it doesn't seem like it does. So, what could I be doing wrong here?

Edit: Fortunately, I found a better way to do this. Just build the elevated track first and drag the road afterwards. This goes very quickly and without hiccups.

Yes, but then it is harder to make the zoning grid work.

For straight segments, just draw a track that is longer than the roa under it. That way it will not snap.

Even that was easier, as no corrections were necessary. Given you need "No pillars" for this, just draw the roads with "Force zoning" and you're set. As the track is already there at this point, it cannot mess anything up.

It is even easier with Road Anarchy. Just tried it with the new Sharp Junction angle mod.

They do, but everything uses the same lane. Also, we will get trams with the next DLC.

As an alternate way to get this to work, you can drag out your rail first, then drag the road under in overlap mode of the no pillars mod. Then connect roads in collision mode to get back the zoning.

Thanks for the tutorial, very helpful. Managed to get a circular elevated rail route to run through the centre of the city (even though the station sizes has made it somewhat tricky to retrofit it in) but I've got it in the end. Noticed though that the heights between the station and the rail network don't match up. Every station seems to sit lower down than the 12 metres used for the track. It's only a visual issue but I've no idea why it's happening and it's making street lights pop up through the rails. I don't seem able to get the track to snap properly on 9m.

You have to make the rails at 9m to match. That's why the road heights mod is essential.

Are there any new variations of track configurations like 3-track elevated rail or 4-track ground station?

There are lots of train assets on the workshop. There are quite a few fixed stations with two tracks, terminals with three, and there are modular stations that allow for theoretically unlimited numbers of tracks. With elevated tracks, you can find some with two tracks and some other special cases.

For example, this station has 4 elevated train tracks, 4 ground train tracks, 2 metro tracks parallel to the road, and one metro track perpendicular to that:

"ei" ( /eɪ/ ) is actually quite common. date, day, and so on. It's just hardly ever written <EI> :P

Cool tutorial, I'll keep that in mind!

Bit of a bump but @boformer Is there anyway to do this with the Network Skins and Fine Road Heights tool?

I can use anarchy to place the tracks but because of how it works, there are no support/pillars on it, or do I need the new No Pillar mod for the overlap function? The only other way I can think of doing it is placing my rail and then using the anarchy function to place my road.

You need the No Pillars mod. It's the only way to overlap pillars if you want to do it like in the video.

I think an alternative is to place the elevated track first, then the road with Anarchy.
