SimCity 4 won't start

Okay, last month I upgraded to Windows 10 and last week discovered I could no longer play Simcity 4 deluxe. All that happened was I got the message please login as administrator privileges and try again. I did and it still would not work. Since then I have tried just about all the suggestions on forums and still nothing. Is this the end of Simcity 4 on a pc disc?

Windows 10 dropped support for some old security features that were used on PC game disks for a while.  Many old discs will no longer work.  You'll have to get the digital version of the game.  Some vendors like EA's Origin may accept your CD registration key and give you a digital copy for free.

While you're at it, you should get digital versions of all your CD programs.  CDs are about to die off like floppy disks did.

I was all set to go digital and buy Simcity from Steam but a lot of the reviews say it still doesn't work on Windows 10.

I have this exact same problem except I'm still on Windows 7! Some updates installed today, maybe its a similar thing but now it won't play and claims I need to be an Admin...even though I am!

My simcity 4 was okay on windows 8, although it would crash now and then it still worked. But with Windows 10, forget it! I'm tempted to just buy it on Steam but so many reviews claim it doesn't work on Windows 10

Well those reviews are plain wrong, it does work on Win10, I tested the digital version on the preview release and many users here have also reported no problems. In fact an entire discussion came up exactly because only those with disks could not get the game to run.

And, apparently today, Microshaft has propagated this crap to Windows 7 and 8.  After 13 years they now decide this is a security hole?  Bull!!!!

Yup.  I was running the game just fine last night and this morning, after the Windows Update, game no longer works.  Unbelieveable.  Anybody have a solution?

I cannot believe Micro$uck would pull off such a tactic like that, but hey, they are a monopoly, so they can do whatever they want...

Actually no, in this case you can just not download the update or even use the registry to turn the driver on/off as necessary, as for Windows 10, indeed users have no control, MS get to decide what's best for you.

It's not a monopoly, but a software cartel to buy new programs or re-buy the digital version. 

I own the original game, but I have a CD Image, so no use the physical disc, to load it in an emulation program. (It's not illegal if you have the original)
