For those unaware my old Shepton save got corrupted with all my asset/Mod building etc and thus it's time to start afresh.

Appreciate it's only an airport at this time but due to the Runways/Taxiways Mod not working alongside Traffic++ I've had to do this first so I can then use Traffic++ later. Of course progress on this city is expected to be slow as I tend to spend more time creating assets than actually playing the game....

#1 - International Beginnings

Welcome to Wells by the Sea.

A small village located just off the M1 motorway into the Capital city of Bristom (population circa 10 million) and placed in the valley forged over the centuries by the River Sheppey that runs from the west and the River Cross that flows from the South.

Wells by the Sea isnt really known for anything other than it's lush fertile land that is perfect for farming, and the newly built (but as yet unopened) Bristom International Airport.

It's this Large Airport development that is the central focus of things as Wells is expected to benefit both commercially and economically from this new airport and the newly elected Mayor Mr Bask is expecting great things to come.

So an overhead view of this glorious valley Wells by the Sea is located in:-

oyP6XTp.jpg

You can see the as yet unopened airport in the North East and if you look just a little closer just to the right and left of the Central M1 motorway you'll see the tiny village of Wells.

Now of course lets take a look over the newly built International Airport:-

Entry into the Airport via the Wellsway (Original I know :P) Avenue and the Train Freight Terminal located in the foot of the piccy.

dTwnDYN.jpg

Next up you have the Terminal 1 building with 2x Satelitte concourses located behind it, access to these is by state of the art driverless Subway trains. In the foreground you'll note the Bus Terminus and Passenger Train Stations that connects to the Bristom Main line.

GzI7NBR.jpg

Next up the purpose built Cargo & Maintenance centre with secure access from the roundabout. In time it is expected this area will expand with the needs of the airport which is hoping to become one of the top 10 cargo centres in the world. While the airport is yet to officially open, CIMAir have already started to use the onsite facilities here (which is why the planes are located in hangers) and DHL have setup a large presence here due to the excellent links to the M1.

And lastly for this initial posting we see the Angled overview. Bristom International has 3 Runways, 2 in West/East Parallel (for simultanious ops) and Runway 3 in a North/South direction crossing over Runway 2, this runway will likely be used for Cargo/Emergency operations only due to the proximity of the Hills in the North all but writing off Northerly approaches.

It is unknown yet what is planned to move into the central area around the Wellsway but Mayor Bask says efforts will be placed elsewhere first.

Scale is impressive, reminds me of a new modern Chinese Airport design

Nice airport, but the numbering of the runway is wrong. A North/South runway designation would be 18/36, barring deviation. Runway 3 would be acceptable if the runway was generally north south but its northern heading was around 20 degrees but its opposite would have to be 20 (03/21). An East/West runway designation would be 09/27, again barring deviation and since they are parallel the right runway would get the R suffix and the left runway the L one (09R/27L).

Basically take the (magnetic) heading of your runway, divide by 10, and add 18 (for 180 degrees) to the opposite direction number.

    Post Answers:-

@TekindusT - Thanks :) It's getting there, still got some assets I'm working on to get released to make it feel it more "Airporty"

@muttonnoir - Again thanks, the scale is sadly in my opinion only let down by the ingame Runway width which at 32-40m isn't in reality what we see (usually 60m+ now). I may switch it to my Runway assets yet but am at yet undecieded. Air Control Tower also needs a little work.

    @Ultimate727 - Thanks :)

@Benedict - Thanks man, And thanks also for the Top 10 placing this week, more than I was ever expecting :)

@Linoa06 - Indeed I'm aware of Runway numbering, My reference to "Runway 3" was in context of this is the 3rd Runway (after having mentioned the 2 East-Wests in the previous sentence) and mentioning that it crosses Runway 2. I've actually got a Runway Designation asset ready to go and also found some Taxiway signs that CO have left ingame for us so might nab and release these also :)

    #2 - Village becomes a Town

So as I'm on hols next week figured I'd post a little update, I've not progressed much due to working on assets but I've grown a little bit and planning/tearing down constantly new ideas! Ha Ha

First up this is the current Wells by the Sea Junction, the traffic in the early days was extremely intense but with the 2nd Junction built about a year further (you can just make it out at the far back of piccy) this has relieved the situation considerably:-

    4FXLdhQ.jpg

So at the Roundabout we turn left and head into Wells Village, the main road in has been purposely designated a NO build zone by the mayor as he wanted to leave room for future Dual-ling of the road if required:-

    PnCmDtm.jpg

This road continues entirely though the village of Wells (nothing much to see as yet) until we arrive at the secure cargo entrance for Bristom International:-

    Rsc7MHh.jpg

Moving to the other side of the Roundabout we land upon the Council offices/Bus Station area, Mayor Bask has predicted great things for the Town and as such spent a fortune on making this office area in preparation for things to come, presently its mostly empty....

    OqJa3wc.jpg

Just another beauty shot of the airport from the railway cross over bridge:-

    JNsYZgX.jpg

Airport Bus Terminal in operation. Inter-City Trains end at the Airport and presently all passengers must travel by Bus network into the Town. Plans are afoot for a citywide rail system but planning is ongoing.

    yS36V0Y.jpg

And lastly for now a Birdseye of the current developing area. As I said not much progress but hopefully that will improve after hols :)

Will post somemore this weekend, but due to massive demand for its cargo offerings, Bristom International got an upgrade. Passenger numbers have also been large enough that Terminal 2 is currently in the planning stages with the Architects.

#3 - Bristom Expansion and continued growth

Welcome back to Wells by the Sea.

So since we last reported in as you can see from the helicopter shot above, Bristom International far exceeded what was initially planned for the airport and due to its excellent links to the M1 into the capital, Freight traffic went through the roof. So much so that the airport approached Mayor Bask about expansion plans including a 4th Runway. These plans were quickly passed and the airport expanded with the additional Cargo Centre area, the gap has been purposely left presently as it's believed DHL/TNT are in talks to fill this area between Runway 3 & 4. You'll also note from the screenshots that the Wellsway was dug up and a new dedicated Terminal road was built from the M1 to feed passengers directly into Terminal 1 and the future planned Terminal 2 (currently with the Architects in design stage). The Railway freight centre was moved to the other side of the M1 at massive cost to the Town, but a small forested area will be planted here to start off a new industrial enterprise.

    AGnK97r.jpg

You'll also note above the M2 spur was built purposely to feed the cargo centre so freight traffic would arrive quickly, as old airport road was deemed no longer suitable.

If you follow the M2 along to the Fourways interchange where it meets the M1 and extends beyond, currently a small offspur has been built for the now expanding down, but this section of motorway is still much under construction.

If you refer back to the overview from #2 you'll note that the junction into Wells Town near the cargo centre has had major improvement works carried out. The bridges heading off the the left below will be to the new planned CBD area once this is approved.

And as a result of increased load, the railways also received an upgrade (got to love sunken railways):-

New international freight terminal tranfer facility and future forestry area.....

Screen 7 attached shows the original village and how much it has grown since :)

And last up for now the current overview:-

Taking a break from Asset making over the weekend so will hopefully have a much larger update by next week :)

#4 - The 2023 Water Incident & Boom times and the Industrial Boom.

Welcome back to Wells by the Sea.

So as we saw, Wells By The Sea was having somewhat of a great boom in growth and the citizens loved the ground Mayor Bask walked upon. However that was all to change in the Year 2023. A planning application made by Bristom International was put in for a local incinerator onsite, now while not an issue in itself, the planning office of Wells By the Sea failed to notice one key issue.... The Incinerator was being placed next to the Fire Departments water tower...

Before Mayor Bask had even become aware the issue this happened....

    GEbxej8.jpg

22k Sick, 6k Evacuated and 700 dead..... Not Mayor Basks finest moment....

None the less the source of the illness was eventually found and dealt with and the people began to come back in. The Trees planted in the International Freight area had now begun to mature and the forestry industry began to thrive in the town.

    t4QTwi9.jpg

As a result, Commercial Business expanded and soon filled the remaining land at the side of the Town centre causeway.

    v9VzF1S.jpg

At this point job vacanies were numerous and it was opted to build larger High Density housing in the Dulcote Heights area of Town to try and fill these roles.

    qtBg2mW.jpg

Sadly the traffic situation here is much worse than what was designed for and as such a compulsory purchase order was made for the field next to causeway and all houses are in process of being knocked down (which is why you see the lone one in the field). A new Interchange/Spur is to be built in this area once the planners can work out a design.

Moving on we see here Dulcote Junction which is the primary point for Commercial services to receive freight into the town. This has a direct link with the International Freight area via its own station there and also the new Wells Port which we will see later. Dulcote Junction is also the key station for the railway network with the incoming fast link from the airport, direct link to Upper Wells Centre and now also the Port. It also is the changeover point for the Dulcote loop that plans to service the whole of Dulcote Heights once this expands further

    lOvRsrx.jpg

Over the bridges above, we arrive in Upper Wells Centre, the "NEW" commercial hub for the town, the area is relatively new but with good commuting links already in place, Mayor Bask holds high hopes for the area.

    eVY3HXQ.jpg

Meanwhile in the South, A new spur was built from the M1 heading Eastwards, with such an extravagent interchange the local citizens initially wondered if Mayor Bask was just spending money for the sake of it....

    06ZMbWa.jpg

But all was soon to be revealed....

    2hgNNCa.jpg

The pressure at the International Freight Terminal was starting to show and as a result it was felt the town would benefit by providing a new port and Industrial area to supply the commercial needs of the now fledging town. Land demand round here is high and the Industrial Boom has hit Wells By the Sea at full speed.

    Current overview:-

    b7YXtDj.jpg

    Just some bonus piccies:-

The Morning commute at Dulcote Junction is insane...

    IWrFXgq.jpg

Beginning the Dual lining of the railway back to Upper Wells Centre, the new dock area has been a massive success so far
