i think its stupid that everyone's afraid that terrorists would destroy a taller building. the freedom tower would be cool if it didn't have to be all concrete with slits of windows at the top (also the name is stupid, it needs to be changed). the freedom tower could be taller, or maybe one of the odd looking short buildings could just be the tallest building. or maybe the park they have planned. what better memorial that a massive tower saying we will not let them knock us down

Ehhhh - I'm convinced this will never go anywhere.

For those interested: Google Maharishi Tower. It was a cool-looking world's tallest, slated for Sao Paulo. Look where that went.

Maybe this is one of those weird religious monk-type things: We'll begin raising money now for the tower. At our current rate of income, it will take us 8,000 years. Perseverance is the key.

Wrong. I like it.9.gif
That is definitely some interesting architecture there. One building that looks as if it's a fusion if many. Although I am reminded more of needles and pins than ice cream cones... Ice cream cones wouldn't be so steep and sharp. And not only does it look pretty decent, but for something that tall... I can't say no. My only request is that they build it in New York Instead3.gif, in order to further the massiveness of what's already the world's greatest skyline.19.gif

Ice cream cones wouldn't be upside down either. Unless your little sister dropped hers... Again.
Anyway, this is just one of the many many envisioned tallest towers in the world. Not to worry. One out of a hunderd gets built. I wouldn't even bet my money on the Burj

and by the way: ugly... brrr! 35.gif

This building I think from reading that article there has been given the green light ( thats if you clicked on the link on the first page. I now see that it doesn't actually look too bad. I believe the only reason you guys think it looks hideous is the background of the sketch. The guy who designed this has created some kikass buildings, just check out his site. If you want to see the link to the article which I got this info from, it is here 3.gif

no way this building looks brilliant, its going to be the worlds tallest tower- of course its going to stick out.

the burj dubai does looks better, mainly because it is so much more slender, the monster seems almost graceful!

If you think about it, doesn't the Burj stick out of nowhere also, I think the only city where skyscrapers can pretty much be built anywhere is New York.

What a discusting design, there's no way that can be economical!

The Burj Dubai tower is unbelieveable though, what a beauty 44.gif

I think that tower looks fantastic! Its really unique and would be nothing like any other building in the world! I would love to see it build. It looks very different, as it seems to be a clash between a medievil style castle and a huge petronas style tower! Interesting...

I don't think it will ever get built, but it would be cool if it did!

That tower is repulsive.  It reminds me of horrible, Third-Worldy-Communist-esque architecture, bringing the grim and freaky Ryugyong Hotel in North Korea to mind:

Dubai will not allow themselves to be beaten, the actual height of the Burj Dubai is secret and can be changed.  Moscow is a city to watch on the skyscraper development front, they are becoming richer there, and have plans for supertalls, one which could be the tallest in the world, called the Russia Tower or something.

Anyway Moscow is starting to boom upwards in a big way, like Beijing and Shanghai.  I'm sure India's big cities (like the finincial centre, Mumbai) will get big skyscrapers, but not until further economic climbing has taken place (provided that their current booming lasts).

Well I actually think it is quite a good design. I think some of you need to get out of the box but yes it could look odd against its suroundings.

The problem is the super skyscrapers of the future will find wind more and more of a problem as the buildings get taller and taller and square shaped buildings hit the wind head on. Cylinder shapes can cause troublesome current's around the building so cone shaped building's are actually the best shape in terms of wind resistance.

I agree, by itself it does not look that bad, but with the whole Pyongyang skyline, well, it's not that good.  That tower has been under construction since something like 1992.

That's kind of a tall order considering the state of the world's oil reserves. We're going to find ourselves with a lot of really tall buildings we can no longer afford to keep warm in the winter and cool in the summer.

China and India are The Next Big Things in a global economy who's days might be numbered.

just try adding a blue background to it?? It might seem ugly because of the kind of sci-fi background to it.

P.S. This was not photoshopped, but simply painted (get it...)Hence the bad quality. Mehh I tried.

I think the U.S. needs to lighten up on new building height concerns (the result of 9/11)......it could inevitably lead to flat topped skylines, which will look horrible. New York needs to take charge one again.

where are you guys getting this crazy idea from? The reason why we dont have idiotically high towers like this being planned for the US sans the freedom tower is because there isnt a demand for one. Geez, who the heck would want to live or work on the higher floors of those anyways. It would suck being so high that you have to change elevators multiple times or be colder in the winter because of the height, or deal with the sway thats bound to happen on the upper floors. Id rather have a nice neighboorhood then one nice tower anyways.

Man, that is one ugly building. But now that I think of it, I'll wait before I cast judgement on the building. I could be better later on.

Being an architecture student... i actually like this building, however it can be placed in a better location. Just the idea that someone is stepping out of the box and using new shapes to create these new massive buildings is amazing...

I however am not a fan of Dubai, over all I think the city is too over rated and I keep wondering what they are going to do when they have no more money from oil...

I feel that the guy who said that it would get really really cold is somewhat retarded. Its in India........ Like I have said in previous posts India has no ultra high rises such as Taipei 101, SWFC, or any large high rise metropolitan areas. Since they are becoming the office of China, (and the US), office space like that I believe would be in demand. I believe that India has reached the transition in large cities where they can no longer build outwards, but now need to build upwards.

I agree with hamsterTK. I would never want to work in 160 story building, especially on anything over 100 stories! India (and the Middle East) also gets typhoons semi-frequently (in fact they're getting hit by one now). Imagine the comfort levels at the top then.

Not mention that the building has an ugliness that NO mother could love.

    Check this out:

Moscow currently have 6 towers under construction, all taller than 230m

and this, the Russia Tower, has been approved and would measure in at 2,126 feet

Sorry to burst everyones bubble but this has just been released to teh media this week..

A British practice is set to amaze the international architectural community by unveiling plans for the world's tallest building, the AJ can exclusively reveal.

London-based Eric Kuhne & Associates is in secret highlevel talks with senior Kuwaiti government officials about plans for a tower over 1km high in the Middle Eastern country.

The next highest building in the pipeline is the Burj Dubai, SOM's tower, which is currently under construction.

Its height is a closely guarded secret, but it is thought it will be between 700m and 800m when completed in 2008.

According to Kuhne, his 1,001m-tall tower will form the centrepiece of the new Madinat al Hareer, which translates as 'City of Silk', forming a 'surrogate capital for the Middle East' to house 700,000 people. The architect claims constructing the city
