A new Building ,the Noida, or Nodia Tower as they call is in India, will be constructed in a close suburb of New Delhi, the capital of India. The proposed building was actually proposed to be 100 floors, but now has been changed to 160 floors and will reach a total of 710m or 2340ft. For more information on this new building go here
Here's a pic

If I'm not mistaken, I believe that Skidmore, Owings and Merrill left the option open to make Burj Dubai taller even after construction began. That would be a good reason why the final height has never been revealed officially.

Chances are, if the Indian tower actually gets going, that a race for the title of tallest could continue during construction of both, which would overlap. That would be something to watch!

Well it would be a nice tower, if only it wasn't so ugly. That's my opinion atleast.

It's probably gonna end up looking incredibly out of place. A big forest of upside-down cones sticking out of nowhere.
Spending so much money on a building in a country that suffers so heavily from poverty also seems a tad bit ridicilous.

While I'm all for alutrism, it's not like the government is coping for its construction, a private corporation that will bring in retail and new jobs is building it. Plus, with a project of this magnetude it's bound to create new construction jobs.

By the way the proposed height for the Burj is 705m and the proposed height for the Nodia is 710, I think the Burj guys'll just make the spire higher to be the tallest in the world. Who knows, this'll be a good clean fight(or not). By the way, both towers are proposed to be 160 floors

As it was already pointed out, the Indian government won't be paying for the building---at least not for all of it.

Also, remember that the Empire State Building was built in 1931, smack dab in the middle of the Great Depression, when millions of Americans were unemployed and poverty-stricken.

    Quote from the newscientist.com site:

The construction of what will be the world's tallest building is set to begin in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. The building contract was awarded to a consortium led by the South Korean Samsung Corporation on Thursday.

The Burj Dubai tower will stand 800 metres tall - just 5 metres shy of half a mile - once completed in 2008. That will be nearly 300 metres taller than the tallest floored building in the world today, the Taipei Tower in Taiwan.

28.gif A nice looking city skyline is where skyscrapers are about the same height, with a few a little higher. If you don't have something close to this building, don't build one -- it will make N.D.'s skyline look awful (a lot of average office scrapers and BAM! A building out of scale for no apparent reason). Sear's Tower looks good because it fits the skyline of Chicago, but not this.

This building will stick out of nowhere, but still may be the tallest building in the world. It actually does look ugly, but the rendering can always change. I think he tried to base it of the coroscant super towers37.gif19.gif

Asia is staring to turn into the America of the 1920's.  Skyscrapers are going up everwhere, even if they're not financially viable.  I remember speaking to an architect who said that his opinion was that these buildings become less economic after around 100 floors, where elevator space starts to compete with the other space.  Ah, well, I really like the rendering of the Burj Dubai.  It kind of looks like a giant Sears Tower.  Here's a link to it:

This is just a vison building.  It will never be build.  It's like the millenium tower or the bionic tower.

But Sky City wouldn't be built for a long time. Also what about the new building on ground zero? Aren't they also planning to make that the tallest building in the world?

I think 9/11 is one of the reasons diablo_del_bano that we are not doing it in the US, The Trump building in Chicago once was going to be the tallest but it was scalled down due to 9/11. 26.gif

I guess someone took the idea for the Millenium Tower and then multiplied it, adding those ugly cones in the top to make that thing more... errr... fashionable. 47.gif

I don't like it, but maybe it will look less awful in real life. Also, New Dehli is not the city where you would expect the tallest building in the world to be constructed... but no one knows, I hope this is only a bad joke...

That's one nasty building design.....I hope they don't build it, because as people have mentioned, it will look dreadfully out of place with its surroundings.....and again, it's so............ugly.

I think the U.S. needs to lighten up on new building height concerns (the result of 9/11)......it could inevitably lead to flat topped skylines, which will look horrible. New York needs to take charge one again.

By the way, did I mention that the proposed New Delhi building design is ugly?

    Wrong. I like it.9.gif

That is definitely some interesting architecture there. One building that looks as if it's a fusion if many. Although I am reminded more of needles and pins than ice cream cones... Ice cream cones wouldn't be so steep and sharp. And not only does it look pretty decent, but for something that tall... I can't say no. My only request is that they build it in New York Instead3.gif, in order to further the massiveness of what's already the world's greatest skyline.19.gif
