Dear sir/madam/whoever will read this!

This profile is now defunct.

Computer problems and issues with accessing my Imageshack account meant My SC4 CJ Scrapbook was lost and utterly irretrievable. This setback put me off SC4 for many months.

Apologies for the inconvenience and for the lost pictures.

But that SC4 itch did not go away and it had to be scratched! I have started afresh with a new account here- The British Sausage

The URS is a spiritual successor to the SC4 CJ Scrapbook.

With this update this will be the last time I visit my original Simtropolis account- admin/mods feel free to remove it or do whatever you need to do. I have no further use for the Ln X (BLANKBLANK) account.

With regards, Miles Saunders-Priem aka. Ln X aka. The British Sausage

Next, im looking forward to create a realistic forestry as I imagine it normally did on the mountains.

What did you use for the water treatment plant?

Applied some finishing touches to one of my more inner-city industrial estates:

The powerstation and dry bulk terminals are created by ngon: see his workshop (there's much more goodness than just these industrial assets, btw!)
The power substation (visible behind the power stations) can be found here.

Wow. I'm very familiar with Ngon's stuff. I love it. I actually have nearly everything he's done, which is why I can't believe I managed to miss that freaking great coal power plant! Thanks for letting me know about it.

In the picture below you can see an industrial district in my city. The district has several cargo terminals and highways. However, lately I've been coping with quite some abandonment in this area. I've demolished the abandoned buildings and dezoned them. Which makes this kind of a concrete emptiness at some places.

Lookin' good!

What I do with open plots such as those is using the Surface Painter mod to turn them into unused land, using the ruined and gravel brushes. The I fence in the plots, and as a finishing touch add some grasses and shrubs as well as some industrial props like trailers, shacks, piles of stuff, etc. Added advantage is that you can space out industrial buildings more, so you have to zone less (which leads to less abandonment).

Here's an example of what I mean:

It's a bit of work, but personally I really enjoy dabbling with props on a micro level - it really feels like adding your signature to a painting after the hard work (laying roads, zoning, etc.) is done.

That looks really nice. I don't mind the empty spots as much in his concrete jungle either.  I would just fill them in with parking lots.

I agree that open spaces aren't bad (really depends on the location), but when I look at my own city, unused plots of land rarely look like a freshly mowed lawn, even in residential area's. Sometimes parking lots would be perfect fillers, but sometimes instead of plopping more parking lots, adding a few props (fences, shacks, billboards, tools and materials, etc.) and shrubs, and some patches of dirt of ruined ground it looks a lot more realistic, imho. And if all else fails, you can always fill it up with trees ;)

You have a way with vacant lots. They look very realistic indeed.

What is that little graffiti-covered shack? Is that from the same guy who makes those graffiti walls? It's a nice little detail.

Thanks :)
If I'm not mistaken it's from the same guy indeed - gotta love his quirky, rough-around-the-edges assets, they really breathe some life into your cities.

Which guy? :P Those props look great! I would really like to use those props in my city as well. Your solution for vacant lots is great by the way. I could do that with some lots in my city as well. I've been working with concrete but it could be nice to combine other surfaces with industry as well. Concrete is great at for instance railway-yards and empty lots within one block (or in industrial blocks in general to get rid of the contaminated ground-edges at lots) but it could get ridiculous when there is a lot of abandonment. Thus a ruined lot could be a nice solution for that.

@Ltw - it's this guy.
I usually use concrete filling in inner-city area's, but after I un-subbed from all those area filler assets because the Surface Painter mod was released, I didn't pave over everything again: even in a dense urban environment you'll always have a few bits of grass, gravel or ruined land here and there.

What a difference a few patches of ruined ground and a few props can make, right!?!
