I have yet another tutorial for you lot.

This time we have apendix B: an (almost) copy of buggis demand multiplyer.

    1. Get to the examplar tree and find a civic building to become your modifier.
    2. open its properties and add something like %effect on cs

Just a quick clarification about my last post. I used the term "open this and add to this something like..." By this I was refering to adding a property (see appendix A) and setting it as % effect on Cs

Well, I haven't been able to sign on for a few days, but I noticed that no one answered my question from June 9. I've tried several of the mods, but none of them work... and I downloaded the latest version of the ModReader. Help!

    writerap,

are you sure that you are following the tutorial precisely.  this problem would come from a negatative/positive number being placed in where the tutorial  claims you need the oposite. Other than that the game only works out new balance after a month game time so wait until then to see any changes. Sorry that I cant help further. A screenshot of the budget sheet (the part that gives you all the costs for everything) would be nice.

Hi, I log in - so does that make me a lurker or not?
I have been challenged to learn more from the tutorials but have not had time or courage to try one yet. But I REALLY appreciate reading them, and trying to get my mind around the ideas.
    Please keep them coming16.gif

Funforfree99 - thanks for the reply. 1.gif I was following the tutorials to the letter, but I noticed one odd thing that happened whenever I tried to modify a value. When I typed in the new value, the data type that was in the "Data Type" field would disappear. I would have to manually force the data type back into the field.

I thought that was kind of odd, especially since you never made a reference to that field in any of the tutorials and after I read your post. So this afternoon, I reinstalled the reader and tried the first two lessons again. It worked this time. The problem appeared to be with the reader, not anything I was doing. What a relief!

Again - thanks for the tutorials and giving my problem a stab!

Say... I'm getting the hang of this now...

Here's an idea: How 'bout modifying a building (i.e. - a power plant) so that it MAKES money instead of SPENDING money? This would be particularly fun to use an industry-only city with no residents to generate income by enacting an ordinance. I tried it with the oil power plant by reversing the 600 simoleon cost to a negative value (so it generates 600/month simoleons in income instead of costing 600/month). The hex value I used was 0xFFFFFFFFFFFFFDA8. It made money, but it generated a whopping 4 BILLION simoleons/month instead of the more reasonable 600 I was shooting for. 1.gif

Anyone care to play with that one and offer suggestions?

Thank you so much. I did the mod. It worked like a charm. I have one entirely dirty industry city with no fire stations and no fire hazard red.

    Onward and upward.

Did you save this mod? did you share it with the others? Is there a way it should be uploaded to thelist?

THis is great. I ahve never hacked into a program b efore.

    I feel so empowered.

I know this is a stupid question
I have patched the super park mod.
So I looked a the numbers to see what had changed.
If is has b 256 times the effect of one park I should be able to find 256 somewhere in hex. which is I think 0x000000100.

But the number I think should be the right onelooks like this:

    0x00000019,0x000000F

I don't understand why there are two numbers and not just one, and I don't know why I can't find 256.

    Can you help?

You point out trhat there are two values, these translate to 50 and 15 as theses are in park effect the refer to the residential nimby/yimby (50) and the radius of this effect (15).
The effect called lankdmark effect is commercial nimby/yimby.

change every second number for demand cap levels, the first number is the type of resident effected.

As for whoever it was who enquired about the -hexadecimals These are confusing and I don't really know how it works.

    Now for another problem.

I wanted to double the power produced by windmills.
I went to the power line which read 7D0 (2000)
    I changed it to 0FA0 (4000)
When I went back into the game, the windmill said it produced and enormous amt of energy (several millions) but none of it was able to be used by the sims.

    Any ideas?

    strange.

the default value of power generated is C8. and this is easily changed to c350 Remember that there should be the same number of digits as in the default.

    just trying to help

hey funforfree99, i was wondering if i could make a request?

okay well, is there any way that i can make certain buildings show up more frequently? as in res/comm/ind popping up.

what i really want to do is change how often the farms other than the small farms show up so that i actually see them every once in a while... is this possible?

hey i might be wrong my opinion but doesn't a police station (in real life) make money for the city you know, parking fines, arrests, restitution, court costs. you know, you actually have to pay to be in jail. interesting right... well shouldn't it be that a police station in simcity4 either be free to run b/c they are making back there money or making money for the city in some way. how would i go about doing that i don't know how to edit that specific police station or something like that. how would i make a building actually make an income for me. i believe the same about hospitals.

Well... I realy dont know what to say about this negative money buisness I have just tried it and ended up getting 40000000 simoleans. (try converting -200 using microsoft calculator then convert it back) so I'm still working on a solution to this. As for the pop up more often modd. I wass going to change stage values (i.e so stage 8's are classed as stage 1) but this badly messed up my game.

I feel realy thick for not managing these. Oh well.

    See you again soon

    Hello all
Using the methods discribed here (which are excellent by the way) I added the following property to the smoke detector ordinance so it appears in monthly income rather than monthly expenses.

Name - Is an Income Ordinance
    Name - Value - 0x28ebbc3c
    Type - Bool
    Rep - 0
    Value - 0x01 (True)

I also editied the Casino so it makes

I was wondering... what property do I have to change to set lower values to the monthly manteinance cost of parks, open grass areas and stuff... I want a low value, such as 1 per month or something like that. I have ilive's reader... and I just want to know what thing do I have to change there, in the Parks properties...

If anyone can help me, I'll be happy! 9.gif

Planck - There are usually two entries for an item (park, bulding, etc.). Find the one that has Bulldoze Cost, Occupant Size and Wealth near the top. The last item should be Budget Item, Cost. That's what you want to edit.

Good to see tat there is still an interest in modding during all the lot editor hype. There isn't much else that I can manage to think off to show you how to do. Maybe I should submit this to dirk for inclusion in the omnibus.

Just for fun my next post will include every tutorial on word document.

This is a request for information that you feel should be included in my new, Manual to using the reader. I have been working on button controls, of course more tutorials, and a simple explanation of hexa decimel numbers.

What else do you feel should be included in what will hopefully be the definitive manual to the reader.
