Hey all, i've got a request. How can i change the capacities of my roads/rails/monorails/ELrails/subways? I've already made the capacities for the buildings insanely so they'll never go red, but now i got all these red streaks on my maps from overloaded transit systems!

FYIIYC:
Bus stops and subways handle 10,000 people
monorail stations, passenger train stations and EL train stations handle 25,000
the grand RR station can handle 100,000 people 16.gif


EDIT!!!! ok, umm...ya.....nevermind! I think ive got it, im about to test it now 1.gif increased the capacities by 10x so there should be a noticeable difference right away. i just hope its not like with my stations...with my stations i had to rebuild them all for the increased capacity to take effect...but oh well 1.gif

I dont know why but everytime i edit my simcity_1.dat file and i save it and try to start the game it wont start...

    wow... it's been such a long time since I've been on this site... I hope the reader hasn't changed too much in it's basic functions...
     
    you would  be wanting to make .dat patches  instead of purely saving... stops major disatsers such as unfixable errors that require a reinstall. (see my previous post for how to do this)
     
    also to give more detailed answer I need to know what values you're changing, and what you're changing them to if you want more detailed feedback

    i was changing the capacity of the schools and the hospitals... and when i save and try to start the game it wont....

    Also is there a way to edit the stage limits of a building?

    Ok. I know i might sound stupid but how do you add ordaninces like i can get to the screen and view and change existeng ones but how do i maake new one

    thanks to who ever answers

    also is there a max amount of money a building can make you a month???

    Currently to date; no one has managed to figure out how to add new ordinances. And I dare say it may not possible at all. Only the current ones can be modified unfortunately. Search the Modding forums here, there's some info about it; failed attempts for example.

    Ooooh that's too bad Tropod.  Based on what I've reading here and SimCity.com I know you tech'ers have been leading the way in tweaking the game to get more individualized results.  Another main theme, esp. in SimCity.com has been the potential changes that Maxis will make to the game in the future.  I hope they let you guys with the technical and knowhow and vision lead the way.  -Joe

    Why are you people saving over the simcity_1.dat file. I never do that. I click on exemplar (at the top of the menu) straight after i change the value, make sure the exemplar that i edited is highlited, and click add to patch then close analayser click on the Patch icon at the top, you should see the exemplar you modified in the patch window, highlight it and click save as DAT, save it where you want (in the plugins file to make the effects show up)and then close the reader and start sc4, its a lot easier than saving over the dat file because if theres a problem you just delete the plugin. Forgive me if ive done something wrong as this is my first post.43.gif

    I tried to lengthen the life of Mayor Mode trees by saving to patch, but that didn't work. I tried it again by saving directly to simcity_1.dat, and it worked. My conclusion is that there are some mods that require the simcity_1.dat (or whatever installation file) to be modified directly. However, I would definitely back up the file first, and create a log file documenting any changes made to the file in the backup archive/.zip file. That way, if (this is a big if) there is another expansion or patch released by Maxis you won't have to reinstall the whole game in order for it to work properly (or at all).

    Saving modifications directly to SimCity_1.dat, should not be done really; it just isn't necessary. If something isn't working via using the Patch function in the Reader, then chances are what's been done hasn't been done properly &/or something that needs to be done hasn't been at all.

    Btw you should download gmax first and Download the to BAT modeling tool!
     
    Tools you need to make an intersection!! if you want to make it usable ask Tropod!!

    Hi all, I'm kinda new to Simtropolis and SC BATting stuff and saw one plugin that gave me some ideas to do, I already know all the basic stuff with bat and gmax (and a relly few of modding). I searched a bit the forums but couldn't find a topic about that (err I guess is something already discussed.. and a lot) but this one seems to help this kind of question :]

    The mod was Toroca's Toll Booth Booster when a mod can be placed right on top of existing roads/avenues. I was thinking how he does that because I would try to do some street trees and/or bus stops and some other things.

    Any help would do, or a topic link.. ty

    How do you change a buildings $ demand. I'd like to make a certain building that is $$$ to be a $ instead. I know where the dex is, but have no clue what to put to make it turn into a $.

    NAM stands for Network Addon Mod. It's a mod that alters the way you set up transportation in your cities.     If this is with any of the games original files:
    Right click on the file, & click Add To Patch.
    Then on the main window click the Patch button & the Patch Manager window/box show appaer. The above file should now be located in this Patch Manager new window.
    Click Create Dat & save the file in the SimCity4\Plugins folder.
    You should never overright the games original files.

    If this is with an existing Plugin, then simply just use the save or save as button.

    I have the Reader to open dat files when I double click on them. When I do this I get 'Unknown' too.

    If that's the case, try to open iLive Reader first and then open the file from within.

    For those of you that are seeing a lot of unknowns in the Reader, go to Options under the Option Menu. On the right side of the window that pops up, there should be a section regarding xml files for properties. Select Add and locate tropod_properties.xml. Then reload the program. This xml file will name and describe the missing properties. Some of the numbers will become names as well, which makes it easier to understand what you are editing.

    Jumesyn,

    The values are mostly hex and few are decimal. Most of the time, if you enter a decimal number while editing a property, the Reader will convert it to hex. Float32 properties are always decimal, string properties are text only, and the rest are hex. If you need help converting hex <-> decimal, use the Windows calculator with Scientific selected under View.
