Searching STEX does not work

When I use the search function to search things on STEX, it says there are # results, but none of them show up.  There's just blank space below the "Sort by" and "Order".  I didn't have a problem with this until the most recent site disruption.  Is anyone else having this problem?  I am using Google Chrome on Windows 8.1.

Yep.  The search function returns the count but not the results.

As a temporary workaround, I suggest to use a Google advanced search for the STEX:

site:community.simtropolis.com/files/ <Search term>

Enclosing search terms in "quotation marks" will bring results only for matching phrases. For more customisation, there's also a range of advanced search commands listed here.

I really hope this is taken care of before long.  Experiencing the same issue, and I don't want to go the long way around forever...

Searching is still problematic.  My problem is not exactly the same, but similar

Here is an example:

1.  Came across a BAT I liked from member "El_Nomade", and wanted to see his other work.

2.  Clicked on the "view other files from this member" link and got 0 results.

3.  Used search function to with search term "El_Nomade", both with and without quotes and got 0 results.

4.  Went to member's profile and clicked on files.  Got the expected last 10 submitted files list, which was full, which also suggests there are more files available, but apparently not searchable.

Use google search instead naming the STEX folder as the place to search.

A caveat:  my comments relate only to searching STEX.

Well, I found the root cause of the problem I was experiencing in a round-about way.

I was searching some member' work using the "view other files from this member" link and received results with the annotation:  'There have been # items by <membername> (Search limited from November-28 2004).  This same limitation does not exist for either the standard or advanced search functions.  Why does the date limitation exist?

The problem with the standard search function, when a member name is used as the search term, is that it returns any thing that has the member's name in the title or description as opposed to only that member's work.  The advanced search function somewhat alleviates this problem (see suggestions below)

When choosing to "view other files from this member", I would reasonably assume that I would be seeing all that member's files, not just those after a specific date.

Maybe the following should exist as a separate topic, but some suggestions to improve usability of the advanced search function (NOTE: I'm not a web developer, so I don't know how much work would be involved to implement these suggestions.  Having said that, I have done database development and understand how to write queries.  These should be two very simple queries.):

1.  There is already an option to include an author's name as search criteria.  However, it appears to be very literate.  If one misspells, fat-fingers, or otherwise doesn't know the authors correct/full name, one is up the proverbial creek.  Change this entry to a drop down list that only includes the names of members who have uploaded files to STEX, when ST/Exchange is chosen for the "Search in section"

2. To help further narrow down searches, and get results more appropriate to what one is looking for, add a field to allow the option to choose file descriptor as search criteria.  This eliminates frustration when, for example, searching for residential BATS, one uses residential for the search term in the "Find words" window and gets 545 results (the majority of which only have the word "residential" in the description, but aren't  in fact residential BATs), or use residential for the search term in the "Find tags" window and only get 69 results (because many authors don't include any tags).

Thanks for listening!

Well it is very much a work in progress I think I'm about half way thru adding the STEX into the plugins Catalog over here

https://community.simtropolis.com/clubs/26-city-builders-website/catalog

The Plugins that have a Simtropolis tag against their name are here

https://community.simtropolis.com/clubs/26-city-builders-website/component/tags/tag/49-simtropolis

I am slowly re-tagging things into Commercial, industrial, etc so not all the STEX plugins currently cataloged will show up under the Simtropolis tag (see bottom of webpage for more tags).

Final notes: its best to right-click on the links and open them in another tab as otherwise you will lose were you are in the catalog and also I am going thru and adding some additional information into the name of the plugin ie what it is and who created it eventually it should make searches a lot better, see the dependency tag here

https://community.simtropolis.com/clubs/26-city-builders-website/catalog/38-dependency

to see what that looks like, also and this is only for registered users I am adding additional information for things like mega packs so people can search for the old plugin name before it was merged, this is very definitely a work in progress so don't set an account on site or use your social login thinking you are going to be getting a lot more information than public users can currently see
