I'm still mulling over the Waddle's configurations... More on that at a later date, but soon I hope.

Took a break from the 511 Building too, because I wanted to get a little more done on another project that I started, the Jackson Tower:

    jacksontwr7-4-07.jpg

It's the closest thing we have to the "wedding cake" style of architecture.

I just had to do something vintage...

I'll try to get more done on all three projects as soon as it is possible!

Just checking in, removing the "first to post on new page bug"...

German class is about to start, but when I get home, I'll try to get the main body of Jackson Tower done.

A little history of the building for everyone:

    Built 1912.

Original tennant: The Oregon Journal Newspaper

Location: SW Yamhill and Broadway, oposite the Fox Tower and Pioneer Courthoudse Square, Downtown Portland.

    Original name: The Journal Building

The building's lines are lit by individual light bulbs at night, each socket is built into the terra cotta shell.

OK class is begining, gotta run!

Tut mir leid! Ich bin sehr spat mit progress. Andreas, wenn ich speche Deutsch besser, ich wirde das machen.

I hope I didn't butcher that too much... I'm just in my first year in Uni. My last German class before that was back in 9th grade ages ago! I'm actually thinking about majoring in German now. Third try at a major's the charm!

Comment ca va CDI?  Ma Francais is tres mauvais aussi.

I'm Swiss-descended. I oughta be hard-wired to speak both those languages!

OK Jackson Tower is getting even better. Just been busy with RLS as usual...

It's down to street level finally!

    jacksontwr7-23-07-2.jpg

    jacksontwr7-23-07-1.jpg

There's still a lot to do still. I'm not quite confident on the scaling yet. I made each of the "layers" as seperate models and merged them all together. I think it looks a little too thin... I could be wrong. <shrug>

I'm going to take a break with this as most of the hardest parts are modeled. I'm aiming to get some more done on the 511 Building and (finally) finish up Waddle's in the coming week to month. Just depends on my schedule.

    Tschus!

(Ugh how do you easily make umlauts?)

Ohh, what a beautiful building! Great work so far, I really like it. 4.gif

About your German: There were a few mistakes, but I did understand it without any problems. At least you're a lot better than me with French, which I had for four years from 7th to 10th grade. 2.gif For the umlauts, it helps to have a German keyboard with a German keyboard driver. 3.gif

Ich bin Deutsch und Rött Fleish! 4.gif

I used to work across the street from the Jackson Tower. Pioneer Courthouse Square. I was park security. There used to be an Arctic Circle hamburger joint on the first floor. Until we noticed a lot of activity after the store closed. We were seeing people enter and leave trough the fire escape on the Morrison street side. It was drug activity. That's when the chain closed the place down.

Sparky, sorry I've been a bit tardy. Yeah I know the 511 well. Good luck that's some pretty heavy roof junk to model.

You must finish this! I love your work: I have every single building you've made. I can't wait to download this. As a matter of fact, I'll probably be the first to download it. Leonardo

This is an awesome project! I used to live near Portland and I visit there frequently so it will be cool to see some of the buildings from Portland on the Stex.

I was just thinking about your comment on wedding cake buildings and I'm reminded of one of my future projects which is very similar to Jackson Tower: Tampa City Hall, so Looks like we can have sister buildings here buddy! hahaha

I write into this thread far too rarely, but I always like coming here and seeing what you are cooking up for us, because no matter how many revision it takes, one can be sure that the final outcome will be nothing but fabulous. 4.gif

Ich kan Englisch, Spanisch, Deutsch, und Franzörsisch sprachen.

Je peut parler anglais, espagnol, allemange, et français.

Puedo hablar anglais, español mexicano, allemando, y francias.

I can speak English, Mexican Spanish, German, and French. (But I can't spell worth a damn in any of them!). I need the most practice with German, so I'll use that more often than not around here, especially with Andreas and T_Wrecks hanging around!

    Über das 511 Gebaude/About the 511 Building:

    Update as of 8-1-07 (1. August 2007):

    511bld-8-1-07.jpg

    • Added the carpet store on the south side
    • added the big mechanical house structure on top
    • next up: adding the parking garage and food vendor trailer
Now to get to all the wonderful comments that everyone has left:

@Ricb: There was an Artic Circle in the Jackson Tower?!?!?!? I LOOOOOOVVVEEE Artic Circle. I wish it'd come back. I have to go all the way out to Newburg or Woodburn for my fix. That's if they're still there! Too bad the downtown tweakers put an end to it. The 511/PMC's roof junk is coming, just wanna get the main stuff out of the way before all the detailing.. Oh, and if you say "I'm a Portlander" in German, you don't need the "ein". "Ich bin Portlander" works perfectly. One of the first things we learned in class this term. 4.gif

@Bixel: Keep me posted on the Commonwealth Bldg. I got a really cool boojk on its architect. I'll have to stop in and show it to you. Really neat stuff.

@Josefmayor: Looking forward to seeing Tampa City Hall. I'll google that in a bit...

@doorknob60: We've all ready got a ton of Portland stuff on the STEX, just search "Portland" and a lot of it will pop up.

@SimRabbit:  The textures aren't [permanent. In fact, there aren't any textures on any of the buildings I am working on yet. Texturing is an all-in-one job for me. Once everything's done being modelled, textures go in, so no worries yet.

@Spike: And Jackson Tower  will be a W2W building  too!  Nice to see you back.

@Andreas and T_Wrecks: Please excuse my very basic German!

Later! Got things to do... Keep comments coming!

Yes, there was an AC. There is a jewelers there now. It extended back well to the rear of the building. The drug traffic was going through the fire escape where Morrison slopes down to the garage entrance. That's why we noticed them. You usually don't see people coming and going to a business that way. Our boss had us take pictures and he sent them to corporate. This was seventeen years ago BTW.
