I would like to request the status and updates of:

- GLR, especially with the draggable option now avaliable.

- Avenue Roundabouts

- Turning Lanes at Intersections

- Other new features...?

I would also like to congratulate all of those who have worked very hard at bringing real-life traffic concepts into SimCity 4 Deluxe.

- Allan K.

I have offered to make intersections for the El-Over-Road puzzle peices, but since I am compleatly inept at network modding (exept for doing texture jobs), it might be a while. I'm going to need some serious help with this.

I have seen some new textures that look like if someone is trying to make turning lanes in Avenue+Road intersections. I was requesting an update to that project.

Oh my god... oh my god... *hyperventilates*

Those stone rail viaducts are probably the coolest thing I've seen in awhile... June NAM notwithstanding...

is there options to make the highway or something straight but make the rail go diagonal?

This is in response to a discussion that began in Jasoncw's BAT thread, regarding the height of the rail viaducts.

Originally posted by: Andreas RothRegarding the elevated rail tracks: Sure, 16 m is somewhat unrealistic, but it's the default height of all NAM overpasses and the elevated highway as well. 8 m might be more realistic, even with the game perspective that makes everything short, but I'd say it's not feasible to change everything yet again. Also, I appreciate ArkenbergeJoe's work very much - maybe it doesn't look exactly like the rail viaduct Tonksi posted above, but hey, he did take the challenge and actually started working, rather than suggesting thousands of things, but not getting into gear.quote>

I appreciate ArkenbergeJoe's work and respect his intentions. I understand how much work is involved in replacing S3Ds with new textures, as I am currently replacing the entire el-rail network with new models. Different models for each zoom level, changing the IIDs, keeping models low-poly, and making simplified textures.. it's all a big hassle. I should have commented at the early stages when he could have easily changed the design.

Also - I am perfectly willing to put the work in to lower the rail viaducts if enough people think there is a need for it. It annoys me enough that I am willing to commit the necessary time to do the job. However, I really don't want to do this without approval from the NAM Team. If given a week or two, I will produce a demonstration piece of a lower viaduct (American-style). I'll also see if Tonkso is willing to help me create a European version of the lower pieces.

@ardecila: Habe dein Posting gelesen.

Sorry for the german-posting

Translation:

@ardecila: For the rail viaduct puzzle pieces, I used the current height of 16 m, because there are several lots that are adjusted for this height (such as the Brunswick Viaducts and buddybud's bridge lots). I don't create new pieces, but just change the existing ones, so they don't look like the el-rail anymore. 16 m is indeed a bit high, and for the highways, the ramps would need the doubled length [to be realistic]. But since SC4 and the NAM use 16 m as default height, I kept that value.

Thank you, ArkenbergeJoe and Andreas for your response.

What if I made the lower viaducts as a different set of puzzle pieces in the existing rotation ring? There's not a ton of pieces right now compared to, say, the avenue puzzle pieces. Is that acceptable to everybody?

Well, if you're willing to create a whole new set, I don't see any problems, as they wouldn't conflict with the existing tiles. Depending on the complexity of the set, I'd suggest a new rotation ring, though. They could be added as optional plugin (like the GLR pieces), so if the players want to use them, they would have to download the plugin and an updated NAM Essentials file.

@ ardecila, @Andreas: Is o.k. the 8m-el-rail is a new rotationring and complete new puzzlepics. The file is the additional PlugIn for the modulare NAM.

~falls Kauderwelsch geschrieben wurde~

Hallo.

Okay, I made the demonstration piece that I mentioned earlier. It is an accurate representation of a viaduct that the Chicago & North Western built running north from the city center. The tracks are at a height of 13', or roughly 4 meters. I stress again, this is what exists in many American cities. However, it looks quite short in the zoom 5 view, and I think a bus or freight truck would collide with the overpass in the game. So I will vertically scale it somewhat to 5 or 6 meters.

In Germany the standard clear height for streets is 4,50 plus 20 cm = 4,70m. Not only but especially Busses do use this height. AFAIK American trucks are bigger (in all dimensions) than European ones so I am a bit surprised of that rather small height.

On the other hand these viaducts have been built before Eisenhower began to create the American Highways (for big trucks) so roughly 4 m height seem logic to me.

(sorry, I do hate this horrible almost non-convertible feet, miles, inch, gallon etc. crap)

I am not a BATter but from what I heard and read the heights in SC4 are 20-30% bigger to "look correct". Given that you need about 1m for the bridge girder a complete height of 8 m - 6m for the light height and 2m for the girder - should work out perfectly.

However IMHO these lower elevated rails should be an alternative to the standard height as there is two much stuff for them available right now . In this point I do agree 100% with ArckenbergJoe
