ILL Tonkso, I have not forgotten you.  Do you want your bridge to be like a Maxis suspension bridge?  How would your bridge look if it was 1.5 times as long? How about 3 times?

brtim2 and realdimension, we are thinking about a tutorial.  I am afraid it will take a while.  I am busy with RL at this time of year.

Andreas, I am not sure what you mean.  It is already possible to create very high bridges that are similar to the models you showed.   A bridge that is exactly like your models is possible (no curves or underpasses), but I am still not sure how many bridges of the same type can be added.

Murakumon, there will almost certainly be new bridges in the next NAM.  Double deck bridges, may or may not be in the next NAM.

AfroThunda and DragonMasterNYC, a temporary mod may well be released, but it will depend on the current version of the NAM.   Since new bridges and the NAM both depend on the same files being modified, new bridges will need to become part of the NAM.

humanleague, there is still no good way to have transit networks going under bridges, except tunnels.  It is possible to conceal the tunnel so that it looks like a road is going under the bridge.  An example of this is nietseb

Well, some people asked if it would be possible to add a bridge which uses exactly this model. It would be up to Spocky about deciding if he wants to take the challenge and convert his model to network models; maybe your tutorial (once it's ready) could help to make the decision if it's worth the effort easier. 2.gif

I think the development of the NAM really helped with this type of modding. It showed people that you could do things to change the automata and other things for mods.

I'm not sure if you've already answered this, but could this concept be used to make diagonal bridges? I think it could have a similar concept to diagonal transit enabling, except adapted to any of the network tiles?

So, if I get it right, the pieces would be a lot harder to do, but it still would work, correct?

I think this'll be a project to try out, eh?

Great bridges guys. I think Simtropolis is quite responsible for keeping SimCity 4 popular.

    Hello to all,

Christmas are gone. 2006 is here and it is time to go back to work 34.gif2.gif. Smocrie and I decided to go for the first real Double Decker bridge. The choosen bridge is the Tsing Ma one in Honk Kong. I am sure this will be a really challenging one 3.gif. I guess this one will need more work that all the previous ones together. But I also think it is well worth it.

So this is the SC4 Tsing Ma bridge in its firsts steps of development.
Only the highway lanes are textured.

I hope you like this bridge. The more I learn about it, the more I like it.

49.gif I would apreciate any help you could give us with the textures. Can someone point me ( or post them here) to some nice white or neutral concrete textures. I have some but I am not sure if they will fit right with this bridge. I also would love to see a close up on the bridge upper deck. I found hundreds of pics in the Google, but all of them were panoramical views. I have no idea o how the real deck looks like 34.gif-

Nice to see you have started this.

At first glance there were something wrong, but could not set my finger on it. Then I start thinking in force and how to get them to the ground. (The way a civil engineer thinks.) You would not placed the bearing beams in the middle. That would introduce extra moment forces. The beams would be placed at the edge of the deck.

    Did a search for pictures:

    trp30.jpg

I found these pictures on this site:
City University of Hong Kong on the Tsing Ma Bridge.

I will try to find some more for you later.

That looks great jeronij. Good luck with the development.

But what about the singledecker bridges? Do you still work on them? I would love to know if they are going to be released once.

    Hello to all,

VesterDk, thanks for the pics. I meant some closeups on the actual driving surface of the bridge, to see details such fences and lights. But those pics are quite useful too 44.gif. Also, I did try to translate this: bearing beams but it seems I got a bad translator 2.gif, because I dont understand it. Can you explain it with other words or with a pic ?

Wow, your first double-deck bridge is looking very nice! Although I have some suggestions. I think you should make the windows more transparent, so you can see the trains better, and so it shows off the fact that its a double decker more. And maybe even lower the train part down, because it doesn't really look big enough as it is.

The overall design look brilliant. Keep up this revolutionary work! 18.gif

Bearing beam: First I thought I had spelled it wrong, but no. Bearing....?.....

    thinking

Load bearing beam means the beam (hope you understand beam or can translate it) is taking more than it's own weight, here it would be the traficload primarily and load from snow. The wind is taken/absorbed by the wind.

Well to show on a picture:
    tsingmaloadsystem1cn.jpg
The red area is the beam for horizontal load (gravity loads). The blue is taking the wind load. This is actiting as a beam for the wind.
Well to say it short: It's not the wind there is the problem, but the gravity. But as you sayed it does exist in SC4.

I can see if you have the rails as in RL, you would not see the rails in the middle.

I haven't seen your request for pictures. Just could see there was something wrong with the construction of the bridge deck. It would not work in RL with the span the real bridge have.
I will have a look for some more pictures and post links to it.

    EDIT: Pictures:
    through a bus windshied
The Tsing Ma suspension bridge from cctv.com , /special/621/7/37069.html
a near by bridge: Ting Kau Bridge . The railing are probaly similar.
