So as some of you know, I used to have another CJ, Bostonia, but neglect and a total system reinstall with no backups made of the region and cities have left me with nothing. So, time for a new region, new cities and a new CJ! Follow me as I develop the region of Eden, from a small city to a sprawling metropolis.

Welcome to Eden

EdenRegionview1907_zps5b4cb6de.png

We will start in the south western corner in Eden Point

EdenPoint1_zps7039cbb5.png

Eden Point is a small town and currently the most southern settlement in Eden. Its founded two years ago, in 1905, by a number of real estate developers who wanted to cater to more affluent Sims. So far they have had mixed success and mostly attracted moderately wealth Sims. Perhaps its a little early to cater to the super rich 5 years after the first Sims settled in the region...

EdenPoint3_zps726a588b.png

The commercial and cultural heart of Eden Point, with some shops and offices, the city library and the primary school.

EdenPoint3_zps726a588b.png

And as we follow Eden Points mainstreet we reach the city limit and move on to the next area:

Eden Bay

EdenBay1_zpsd859571f.png

Eden Bay is the main administrative settlement in the region and consists of 5 small towns. This is the outer area of the first town, Eden, and is closest to Eden Point, and the first place where the Sims coming to Eden build their houses.

Mainstreet of Eden.

EdenBay4_zps311528eb.png

Mainstreet of the second town, Serfton. Analysts predict the first and second town will merge together within the next 5 years.

EdenBay5_zps39f70caa.png

Outskirts of the third town, Farmgate, which is also the largest town in Eden Bay.

EdenBay6_zps1c4f3e94.png

Farmgates office district, as well as some early high rises.

EdenBay7_zps428f8130.png

Following the road from Farmgate, we reach John's Station, a small depressing little town, build to house workers for the paper factory.

EdenBay8_zps69373134.png

If we follow the road to the South East, we reach Eden's Spring, a small town at the edge of Eden Bay. This is the well off side.

EdenBay9_zps88ab94bd.png

At the other side of the little spring river we find the less affluent Sims. But real estate prices do seem to be rising.

However, if we follow the road and rails from John's Station to the North, we reach:

Loggers Hill

LoggersHill1_zps2541764c.png

The Town center of Loggers Hill

LoggersHill2_zps65ceb22b.png

And the main residential area, currently under heavy development as business is booming in Loggers Hill.

Well I hope you enjoyed the first tour. Comments, questions or advice are much appreciated :)

A solid start! Looking forward to more.

You also asked for advice well I can think of two things only:

1. Shadows! They make everything look better turned up high.

2. The MMP river. RFR Plopwater and Heblem's paths combined make for a great looking basic MMP river.

Dear sir/madam/whoever will read this!

This profile is now defunct.

Computer problems and issues with accessing my Imageshack account meant My SC4 CJ Scrapbook was lost and utterly irretrievable. This setback put me off SC4 for many months.

Apologies for the inconvenience and for the lost pictures.

But that SC4 itch did not go away and it had to be scratched! I have started afresh with a new account here- The British Sausage

    @Schulmanator: thanks!

@Ln X: Thanks for the advice. I fear I forgot about the shadows in this update but I will make sure they are in the next one. And super thanks for pointing me to RFR water, it looks awesome!

    Welcome back to Eden

Today we are going to have a closer look at Eden Point and Loggers Hill, who have both seen some extensive growth during the past 4 years.

First we go to Eden Point

    EdenPoint5_zps825d1614.png

It started with the Ayn Rand Is Awesome Foundation (ARIA Foundation), a group of libertarian extremists based in Eden Point that felt that they shouldn't have to pay the local government to send their kids to school. Instead they wanted the public school closed and replaced by a private school. Here we can see them protesting in front of the school, where they prevented teachers and children from entering the building.

In the end, the government compromised by allowing the private school to be build but the public school to be kept open. However, since there was no place in Eden point, the government had to begin expanding to the other shores and the small island in the middle.

    EdenPoint6_zps0326ae83.png

A street was upgraded to a road and a bridge to the island was build.

    EdenPoint7_zps723941ef.png

The private school was build. The ARIA Foundation also attached a church building to it, and every day at the school starts with a sermon dedicated to the great invisible hand of the market in the church, before children are taught that the best things in life can only be achieved by screwing everyone else over. I'm sure we will hear more of this ARIA Foundation in the future....

    EdenPoint8_zps9d049018.png

Here we see some of the new houses that were also build on the island.

Meanwhile in Loggers Hill, industry has been booming.

While the major industrial areas are in Eden Bay, the primary resources used in the production process, namely wood and Ertz, are all from Loggers Hill.

    LoggersHill3_zps377fd8c4.png

A sizeable woodcutting operation just outside of Loggers Hill. For now they are cutting trees in areas where the city council has plans to build residential areas, but ideas of setting up more sustainable wood plantations are currently being debated.

    LoggersHill5_zps3ba675f2.png

After the trees are cut, they are processed in the saw mill before getting loaded up on a train and moved to Eden Bay, where they are used to make paper, or further refined so they can be used as building materials.

    LoggersHill4_zps11ea7323.png

Also making use of the train tracks is the Ertz quarry (if you are wondering, Ertz is a special kind of precious metal, found in the black rocks you can see in quarry). The amounts of ertz found so far have been rather minimal so there has been no need for larger capacity loading facilities. It can still be loaded in by hand.

    th_LoggersHill6_zps46962f79.png

Another major employer in Loggers Hill is the BioFuel Corp, who owns all the farms in Loggers Hill. They grow the stuff that later gets processed into biofuels in Eden Bay.

    LoggersHill7_zpsa0790324.png

And in order to sustain the accommodate the demand for workers, a new residential area has popped up.

Well thats the update for today, feel free to post a comment :)

    Welcome Back to Eden

Today we are going to take a look at what has happened in Eden Bay in the past 2 years

First if we take the road from Farmgate to the South we will see that a new town has emerged, called Stufton.

    EdenBay15_zps738c92df.png

Its a town that has grown extremely rapidly.

    EdenBay12_zps5e198d47.png

    EdenBay13_zpsd6afe4d5.png

The fast growing population has attracted the attention of several mega stores who recently opened their doors, which in part spurred the development of Stufton with housing projects for employees. Several hotels can also be found for people who want to spend more than one day shopping in the mega stores.

Analysis does show that the arrival of these two mega stores and the distribution center has had a massive impact on the demand for jobs. And a number of smaller store holders are afraid they might be put out of business by the competition. But so it seems the market is big enough to allow big stores and smaller stores to coexist. Or as a spokesman for the Ayn Rand Is Awesome Foundation (ARIA Foundation) put it "The invisible hand of the market provides for all".

    EdenBay14_zps057b01af.png

The first public radio station of Eden Bay has also opened up on top of the hill East of Farmgate and North East of Stufton. Sims also use it as a place to start a hike on a sunny Saturday.

    Meanwhile in Serfton

    EdenBay18_zps1fe34fd6.png

    EdenBay16_zpscf7f791e.png

Citizens are complaining that the industry is stinky and that without an official fire department its just a matter of time before the town burns down.

    And sure enough:

    EdenBay17_zps48d1a29f.png

A small industrial accident causes a fire. Only through the heroic efforts of the factory workers and bystanders can the fire be put out in time. 3 people still died in the fire however, and 25 others had to go to the local clinic with breathing problems.

    EdenBay20_zps23ced8a6.png

At the new Eden Bay city hall the debate rages on how to prevent such accidents in the future. Most agree that its high time for the creation of a fire department, but the discussion is where to but their bases.

    Finally

    EdenBay19_zpsc45febfb.png

A trash dump has been dug out and now collects the trash of all the cities in the Greater Eden Region. Environmentalists note that its filling up at a worrying pace.

    EdenRegionview1909_zps48a41e38.png

Finally an image of the region in 1909.

Thats it for this time, hope you enjoyed it :)

    @Ln X: thank you.

@SimEmirate: thanks, I generally think that industrial areas are the most difficult to do right. But the Industrial Facelift mod from Paeng combined with his grunge industrial alleys and some of Murimk's props helped significantly :)

    @Schulmanator: thanks!

@Belfastsocrates: thank you, I figured the radio station would get the best reception on a quiet hilltop in the woods :P

    Welcome back to Eden

Its 1913 now and Eden has grown steadily in the past few years. Two new settlements have even appeared on two of the islands to the south of Eden Bay, on Braal Island and Goose Island. Today we are going to have a look at those two.

    5duDxi.png

We begin at the harbor of Braal Island, which is also the only access point to both islands thanks to the Eden Ferry Service. Of course, Sims that can afford their own boat can simply use that to go between Braal Island and Eden Bay.

    AzGUrJ.png

We follow the main road into the island....

    PjO7wS.png

...take a turn left (North) and go past the sea rope manufacturing plant towards Braal's Point

    J9y9zy.png

This is Braal's Point, a small community located at the most Northern point of Braal Island.

    ytNriq.png

    7WJzNq.png

The rocky coast of Braal's Island is a loved spot for locals to walk their dog or stare over the water. The currents however are very dangerous and 16 people have drowned in the three years since Braal Island first became inhabited by Sims.

    LpW1zb.png

We go back to the main settlement and take the road south.

    XDeMvi.png

    nhdAF5.png

Where we reach a small agricultural area, providing most of the food for the inhabitants of Braal and Goose Island. The biotech greenhouses are especially useful for increasing the crop yield on limited space, like an island.

    UBgfyL.png

This is the most southern point on Braal Island. The Goose bridge will take us to Goose Island, which is located directly south of Braal Island

    W4oxBw.png

This is Bromton, the main settlement on Goose Island. Goose Island is called so because the explorers that mapped it thought it looked like a goose.

    XPimHp.png

The firehouse of Goose Island, guiding ships to safety.

    PRwyVn.png

    fUQx0y.png

Goose Island has a decent industrial area providing a job to many of the Sims on both Braal and Goose Island.

    oY8VUF.png

And a small harbor ships the products off to the rest of the world.

Alright guys, that was the update for today. Next update following soon! Questions, comments or feedback are/is much appreciated :)

Oh on a final note, given that they featured quite prominently in this entry and will make appearances in the next update as well, the harbor (both the marina and the industrial harbor) are part of the CDK 3 set from Pegasus. The hightech greenhouses are part of Pegasus Utopian series. Gotta give credit where credit is due :)

    @Schulmanator: thank you :)

    @Ln X: I'll do my best :P

    Welcome back to Eden

Today we are revisiting Eden Bay. Since this is a SJ about the 'natural' growth of a city its time to show how much Eden Bay has grown since last time, starting in Eden

    X0Zprr.png

Since Eden Bay has been growing significant and space at the coast has become sparse, the city has started buying out farmers so they can develop the land. Everything that was on the right side of the road used to be farm land, but has now been turned into residential and industrial zone.

    BsGHdi.png

The same story applies here. Every building on this picture is build on what used to be farm land.

    rLOAMO.png

    pBjFCD.png

The old Eden Bay commercial district has also grown significantly with the first medium rise commercial offices appearing.

    mAgZRr.png

Since the industrial fire of 2009, Eden Bay has done much to improve fire safety, including building several fire stations. Here you can see the first one.

    j7igdj.png

Eden and Serfton have finally merged together thanks to this residential area. It did take longer than the analysits originally predicted. Probably because they hadn't taken the Serfton power plant and industrial area into account.

    Moving on to Farmgate

    4m9a1O.png

Where quite a few homes  located at the mainstreet have made way for shops and offices.

    kXIQnW.png

And where medium high rise buildings have also started to appear.

    JNKzVq.png

Farmgate now also has its Marina and the Eden Ferry Service has a station here, making it one of the places where one can travel to Braal Island.

    kWClN4.png

Stufton has been growing as well and now has its own, albeit small, industrial zone.

Alright, thats it for today. Next update will look at whats happening in Loggers Hill and Eden Point.

And credit where credit is due, the fire station I've been using and one that looks, imo, superior to the Maxis one can be found here.

Nice suburbs and good job on the port area. If you want to get wealth textures on the curved streets then place a street piece right next to the cusp of the sharp diagonal turn, while for ninety degree curves drag diagonally from the street tile adjacent to the sharp 90 degree corner.

@Ln X: Thanks, I will definitely have to try that!

@Cromabianca: thank you, and good luck with your own project :)

    Welcome back to Eden

Today we are revisiting Loggers Hill. It has been profiting from the boom in Eden Bay quite significantly.

    UPzirX.png

This was the center of Loggers Hill in 1910. As you can see, some of the farms already had sold their ground to the city so it could use the space to expand (sorry for the lack of shadows in this pic).

    6uafB3.png

This is the same area in 1913. All the farms had to make space for the expanding city.

    cRwtPF.png

This is where Farmer Johnson used to have his own plot of land. Now its shops and a few community gardens.

    BKSNab.png

    FgY81O.png

Not that any of the farmers really care. They got a much bigger and better plot of land to the east of the city, and the council has signed an agreement that this area of land is not to be re-zoned for the next 100 years.

    kfeMbv.png

Mean while, the loggers have finished cutting out this part of the woods and the city has moved in to build a new residential area.

    QuxKkH.png

And the plans to set up a tree farm have been approved. This is just the first one. Two more are getting planted in the future.

    0oITwK.png

Finally, Loggers Hill is profiting from the environmental laws that are being enacted in Eden Bay. Polluting industries are no longer welcome or have to pay hefty taxes. The planners in Loggers Hill on the other hand, are not so concerned with the environment and have opened the doors for the industry. No doubt this industrial park will expand in the near future.

Well thats it for this time. Questions and comments are much appreciated!

@Ln X: thanks, I'm very pleased with how it turned out :)

    @kelistmac: thank you :)

@Schulmanator: thanks, rocking on is the plan :P

    @jacqulina: thanks!

@NMUSpidey: yes I think they look pretty great. But its a little to bad they initially also come as commerical buildings. It looks a little silly when a greenhouse suddenly appears between your offices in the CBD :P

    Welcome back to Eden

Sorry it took so long before this update. I didn't have access to SimCity for a few weeks so yea...Now I got it on Steam though so no more relying on having the discs with me :)

Anyways, on to the actual update. Today we will take a look at the East Coast. Since Eden Bay is booming and farmland is getting turned into urban districts this has been creating some pressure on the food supply, with rising food prices as a result. This in turn sparked a little farming boom, with the majority of the farms getting set up at the East Coast and West Coast. This update will focus on the East Coast and the next update at the West Coast.

Good, starting out at the Southern point of the coast.

The town Southern Edge. A small farming community

Following the road to the North towards the next farming community.

    Y6sFgW.png

The road goes north, past the farms between Southern Edge and the next town: Dafford

    6djRw0.png

Dafford is a small and young community. Only one year old.

    5tjJxx.png

Taking the road further to the North, we reach the next town: Parcival

When entering the town from the South one is greeted by a small industrial storage area. Mostly for farm supplies.

    mVuFrX.png

Parcival is a lot bigger than Dafford, and its also a year older. It was the first settlement at the East Coast.

    Farms surrounding Parcival.

    HKuLuF.png

Following the road through Parcival to the North it does not take long before you reach the farms of surrounding the most northern town on the East Coast, namely Iridun.

    The farms around Iridun.

    fxAS8C.png

And the town of Iridun itself. Its only a year old and yet its already bigger than Parcival. Competition between the two cities is also fierce.

Anyways, that was the update for today, hope you enjoyed it. Questions or comments are always welcome :)

Nice small town. I like the wind power plants near the shoreline.

Heh, the first time I had those things popping up in commercial districts I was shocked.  Luckily they files are properly labeled so I banished the commercial ones :D

Anyways, lovely set of towns.  I like the abundance of trees, especially.

    @Schulmanator: thank you :)

    @jmsepe: thanks :)

@NMUSpidey: Yeah, thankfully its easy to ensure that they only appear on farm land. And thanks.

    Welcome back to Eden

Today we are going to look at the West coast, which has also benefited albeit to a lesser extend, from the farming boom.

    ZMXF5q.png

Starting with the road from Eden Bay, we go west.

    IDrQGF.png

    ZiyZlE.png

And follow the main road until we reach Eden West

    hhzZ0z.png

    DQBONw.png

Its a small rural town with only a few thousand citizens, and a healthy small business main street.

    9IzCkS.png

From there we follow the street into the farm fields.

    sbrNI7.png

    Ggftda.png

    EXmyRp.png

Small patches of trees remain untouched due to environmental concerns.

    4LYQ86.png

From West Eden we take the road to the North to the next town, Mavenfoort

    HAcpOa.png

Before we reach the town of Mavenfoort itself, we first need to pass a few small farms and cross the Maven river itself.

    3hxWqd.png

    BRpQz5.png

    RmNYyF.png

    dLJiaE.png

And there we have reached the town of Mavenfoort itself.

    pDj5aT.png

    4Q0HtQ.png

    ONXcEL.png

Mavenfoort is located at the end of the Maven river. The name itself is a reference to the bridge. 'Foort' is an old Dutch word for a shallow patch of river where one can cross.

    BN1tJY.png

    k2CBbk.png

Mavenfoort has some of the most relaxed agricultural zoning laws in all of Eden, which has caused it to attract a lot of large scale farming corporations that couldn't get the amount of land they wanted elsewhere in Eden.

Anyways, that was the update for the Eden West Coast. I hope you enjoyed it and questions/comments are as always much appreciated :)
