Evean Vansop: An independent state in free association with Schulmania

Welcome to the Republic of Evean Vansop

Schulmania’s roots date way, way waaaaay back before SimCity version 1 was just a twinkle in Will Wright’s eye. Back at the dawn of time, when I was in elementary school, when the first feline entered the Schulman house, some friends and I invented countries led by our various cats. Over time, all of these countries faded into history, save for Schulmania, which of course found new life in SimCity. These countries suddenly came back to the forefront during a cleanup of the room over the garage (neat people do not make these kinds of discoveries) and a folder was found containing old documents and correspondence from that bygone era.


Please tell me you are not surprised by the feline motif on this folder!

One of my friends had his country of Evean Vansop. Finding the folder has given me the opportunity to bring his country back to life in SimCity 4. Occasionally, I like to build more modern stuff than I do in Schulmania. I will now use Evean Vansop as my vehicle to do so. Updates will be intermittent when the mood strikes me. And there will be a page on the Schulmania website for this new country: http://schulmania.info/index_files/eveanvansop.htm.



Here’s an interesting fact I uncovered whilst reading these ancient documents: the map of Evean Vansop actually includes the first ever reference to Schulmania. There were the Schulman Islands and a town of Schulmania. For the record, my country was not Schulmania in those days; it was named after the BFA Governor-General, H. J. “Hoppy” Franciflora, since this was a few years before the Supreme Wirdle was born. Behind the letters is the first poster size map of what would become Schulmania (done in Technicolor with the aid of Crayola markers). Many place names and some landform features now (or will be) in use in Schulmania come from this map.

Evean Vansop now has its own SC4 map and I have done some work on it. When I am in the mood for more modern cities – suburbs and urban areas – or roads with cars on them I will head over to Evean Vansop. This thread will be updated every so often. It is not my goal to make a super detailed urban core with hyper realism and all that. It will be more of a venue for me to do something different.

Suburban Maycar

Maycar is a city of about 75,000 inhabitants in northwestern Evean Vansop. It is a hub for the surrounding countryside, which consists of small towns and rural areas. It is situated on the shore of Lake Jyvas and is known for great lake vistas and discount shopping. Today, we head over to Jyvas Woods Shopping Center to see how we can spend our day… and our paychecks.

Weekend At The Lake

Maycar is the largest city on Lake Jyvas and a great weekend getaway destination for those in the vicinity and beyond. Lake Jyvas is a fairly high latitude lake, so it is not a beachy type destination. It’s more of a tree swing, boating and fishing hole lake. Think more Lake Saimaa than say Lake Balaton. A host of services have sprouted up to support the visitors to the lake’s peaceful shores. Plenty of food, retail and accommodations make Maycar a great place for a great weekend. Let’s go!

Black Friday is over but the shopping frenzy is still well underway here in Evean Vansop. There are many deals to be had… and some great meals to grab while on the go. Time to break open the wallet and start spending some loot!

Schulmania Crossover Episode

Crossovers. The Harlem Globetrotters on Gilligan’s Island… The Jetsons Meet The Flintstones… Inspector Gadget teams up with Mario and Luigi… They all seem so… silly and contrived. Until now, of course. The Evean Vansop-Schulmania crossover is of course not any sort of shameless ploy. Of course not…

Scene 1: Feline Capital International Airport – Oak Ridge, Schulmania


Prince Excalibur, ruler of the Kingdom of Tenne, is headed to Doyacabsa, capital of Evean Vansop on a trade mission. He flies out on Nyan Airlines on a direct flight first thing in the morning.

Scene 2: Doyacabsa, Evean Vansop

The Prince arrives in the Evean capital. President Moyers greets the Prince and escorts him from the airport to his hotel in downtown. The entire top two floors of the Embassy Suits have been reserved for the Prince and his entourage.






A trade show at the arena is what drew the Schulminion delegation. With Excalibur making an appearance, parking around the arena has been restricted for security reasons. The many delegates and vendors are eager to see what new deals can be reached with Schulmania.


Two Evean companies, Hattula Construction & Development Corporation and Midnight Enterprises, owners of Feasty Foods and other companies, have developed proposals for joint ventures with Schulminion companies. They are searching for the royal OK to begin their projects.


Hattula seeks a royal concession to develop a transit route through the densely forested and undeveloped Schulminion interior all the way to the west coast, allowing a straight shot for Evean businesses to Schulminion markets without having to circumnavigate the continent or transship through Schulmauckland ports.


The Great Western Road would run from Blankenship in Middle Tenne as far as possible to the west. The road would be built at no charge to the regional government, in return for certain concessions. Among the concessions, the right to build and operate service plazas for travelers along the way and to build and to operate a sea terminal on the western coast when the road is complete.

Feasty Foods would like to open up a full scale cat food cannery and other cat food production facilities. The site they have selected is inland, along the Fresca River on Imperial Mookimian border and close to the city of Kolibri. The locals were not super excited that the company’s real estate agent was a dog. Thus, the site’s name became known as “Cave Canem”.

The delegation was taken to Hooter’s for wings to try and close the deal. We’ll see if the government approves these new proposals.

Downtown Doyacabsa

Today we have a short tour of the Central Business District of the national capital, Doyacabsa. This inland city of 2.5 million is the financial and cultural center of the nation as well as the seat of government. Let's see what's up in the vibrant city of Doyacabsa.


An upscale shopping and entertainment district centers around the arena and convention center.


Enjoy the arts in Doyacabsa! The Fonassamo Cultural Arts Center has many great venues.


Cahill Tower is one of the tallest structures in the city


South of the government complex rises the international headquarters of Craigsnotes, Evean Vansop's premier online marketplace. There are imitators ("...list", for example... cough cough) but there's only one original!


Let's go to a concert at Chicken King Arena. It's gonna get loud!

Driving Around Doyacabsa

It is a beautiful summer day. Let's take a drive around Doyacabsa, the capital of Evean Vansop. If we look carefully, we just might spy the rarest animal in the country, the urban two headed flying unicorn. They are only sighted once in a blue plaid moon, so you never know!

Somoron

In the northwest of Evean Vansop lies the midsize town of Somoron. Its extensive, leafy suburbs are not noteworthy destinations for a tourist but they are a great place to live and raise a family. Several office parks and retail developments provide steady, good paying employment. Many high paying jobs were created with a company making 4-D printers opened a factory at the industrial park. Let's see the town.
