And I don't even want to think about IE... It annoys me even when I click on it by accident and it begins showing stuff about making it the predetermined browser and take the tour to see the new blah blah blah, GET OUT!

This is exactly why I have no IE icon anywhere on my desktop or my taskbar.  I used to have one on the taskbar, but I clicked it one time too many and finally had it with it.  It's gone.  The only place I access IE from on the rare occasions where I need it is the Start menu.

Although it's just from the W3 Schools site, this gives a good indication of usage trends over the past 10 years:

Browser Statistics

Summary:

  • Although it first had a monopoly, IE has been in steady decline pretty much since the early 2000s (when alternatives were developed).
  • Firefox peaked in around mid 2009, but is now in decline towards a 1:4 share.
  • Chrome's usage has increased almost exponentially from 2010. It's no surprise since it's made by the company who created the most popular search engine (easily accessible).
  • Safari (default Mac browser) steady at around 4%.
  • Opera has never really taken off.

Firefox. The repo that Arch Linux/pacman wants to download Chromium on is unbearably slow, every time.

I use Firefox as my default browser and Opera as my news browser. Latter is (IMO) superior for that purpose over all other brosers, because rest of them mostly ignorre all potential of RSS, or handle feeds like live bookmarks.

Chorme became poisnonous to me, after I noticed that it allowed DoubleClick cookies to pass all protection protocolls. I strongly oppose all features that pierce user privacy, without us specially allowing it. Don't take this as general statement against advertisement practises, because both Google and Chrome live from advertisement. Users should still be able to select their own privacy settings.

I hear that Chrome doesn't currently give any special position* for Google's DoubleClick cookies. I am unsure if this is really the case, but I have lost my trust to Chrome. Google has recently started to use blending advertisements with their search results. This does not help my trust issues with Chrome.

Many peoples are trusting their privacy for Google and Chrome. Don't worry too much about it. My "paranoia" grows out of principle. :kitty:

Opera 12.16 for enormous customization options.

If sth do not work, then Opera 18 (also known as Chropera).

Firefox - not enough strange features I use w/o extensions, tends to be slow;

Chrome - fast, but lacks in customization and advanced options;

I don't worry about it because all my info is fake anyways and they can advertise to me all day and I just ignore it.  As for the cookie thing, they're all blocked by my anti-virus program anyways, so no worry there.

I use ad block which catches most ads. As for text advertisements like at Google that is why I use DuckDuckGo rather than Google... Also Google's autocomplete serves no practical function but slows searching...

Google. The addons are really helpful, and because they're supported by Google, they're easy for anyone to find and install exactly what they want/need. Also, it's the only browser (as far as I know) that has an adblock that works on YouTube. It took a bit of getting used to, but now Google knows to much about me, so I guess I'm in *great* hands  :whatevs:

I would be really cautious at saying Google "knows" me. The only thing it does is screening my searches there and throwing related ads to my face. For example, the other day at work I was searching for electronic devices on a known German supplier. The next three days, all ads I saw were from this supplier. Later, at home, I was looking for some snowboarding gear and reserving a flight back to Barcelona. Now I only see bargain snowboards and cheap flights ads.

Not really annoying, it's good to know that Google isn't still in control of "all" my very personal data.

Still, Google does know how to creep. I discovered earlier this year that when I looked through my gmail on my computer, emails from/to a certain person were accompanied by a picture of said person. This picture was not from their Google+ profile, or from anywhere on the internet. It was a picture I had taken personally with my Android phone and linked to their contact info there.

In other words, a private picture that I took with my phone was, without my knowledge or consent, uploaded to Google's servers so that it could be displayed to me on any device that I log into my email from. Charming!

(yes, I realize that this stuff is all uploaded for the purposes of creating backups for your contacts, and it's nice that they do that, but seeing the picture show up in a place I did not ask for it to be bothered me)

Firefox: Personal favorite. Since I am now constructing my own website, the tools it provides to help me do so are absolutely invaluable. I don't know if I could have gotten this far without it.

Safari: I use it for basic stuff. Not bad. Bit slow. Displays most pages very well.

Opera: I used to use it. Then they replaced their old browser with the Chrome engine. I immediately deleted it.

Chrome: It can go jump in a lake.  :)
