Never had any city bigger than... 80,000

But this happened only once, in I a region I didn't like the way it was developing and deleted it. My cities rarely exceed the 20,000 mark.

In the region I'm playing on currently (duh, over the last few years actually) I have some 10 cities with a population of 5,000 to 50,000 sims - most are around 10,000-15,000; regional population is ca 180,000. And I don't see this one increasing any time soon...

Think mine is currently 161K on a large tile with no plugsins, but this was a city built in 3 hours by just using the click/hold method of Maxis default zoning. It's part of my sandbox region for when I just feel like messing around.

My active region is only 177k across 15med tiles on a 2x2 region (1med is purely water). Largest pop in the downtown area is about 33k. Was 37k until just recently creating the regions first highway system. So there were many Sims displaced in the process, which dropped the pop down to 30k. Once I'm finished with the highway and rebuild the surrounding areas, the pop should jump back up and beyond what it was already.

Never made a metropolis in SC4. Usually get bored with a city and just start a new one. This time around is the first time I'm actually playing a region wide city.

With no mods at all? Easy...

Woodland Metropolis, it reached a population of 1.1 million. No Mods, No cheats. This was the first and only city I made that ever broke 1 million with no cheats/mods.

This city was built about 6 months before I discovered this amazing site and its mods. It took me 2 months to complete, and got stuck at 680,000 for a long time before I broke demand cap. It was completed around July 2008 ( I was only 12 at the time).

(with demand mods, another city I made reached 1.5 Million)

Sounds like many of us are in the same boat.  I've ceased to care if a city has a large population as long as it is making money and is quietly balanced.

Back before I went for aesthetics I would make it my mission to pile as many sims into a tile as possible, my highest was 4.6million in a large city tile, pretty flat, but had a river running through the middle and over 2 million commercial jobs, no cheats/CAM. I also managed 680k in a small tile but that was purely residential other than the amenities and MHW.

Nowadays the most I want to put into a large tile is around 500k.

You also seem to have forgotten the poll :P

My largest city ever is on a large tile with about 1.1 million inhabitants. It's a city in a region without any subways and only some heavy rail and highways as fast transport, so it was more of a test than anything else. Those cities I actually put some effort in are usually much smaller.

I mean, I know how to build big cities, but to me it's a boring task of endless repetition.

Some records from me:

Largest population, overall: 875 000 (Schellingen-Mitte, Schellingen-Stadt)

Largest population, large city tile: 875 000 (Schellingen-Mitte, Schellingen-Stadt)

Largest population, medium city tile: 375 000 (Kavelstad, Londen [vanilla region])

Largest population, small city tile: 30 000 (Kolderhof, Londen [vanilla region])

Largest population, low density only: 175 000 (Escamp, NORO). Part of an endless suburb...

But for me, I rather create a beautiful city rather than a large one.

Being a heretic and playing with CAM/SPAM combination, too dense R is the last thing I want. I like to create large regions with moderate or high polulation, but avoiding highest density residential lots. My highest tile is currently 650 000 and that is quite enough, unless I am going to fill 2-3 large tiles with farms.

I am still unsure if my next - planned to be CJ - region is going to be CAM, SPAM or combination gameplay. Nobody want's to see 40 pages of fields, but nobody wants to see (or play) 20 pages of default fields either...

City Center a large city tile, with 146,204 at the moment and shrinking.

The largest medium city tile population is Downtown Timbuktu (Getting Started Tutorial) with 53,807, but I redid most of the city and haven't unpaused it yet.

Lake Ironshire was my biggest city topping almost 7 000 000. Unfortunately its become unplayable due to missing mods and hour long loading times.

The biggest non-mod city I was able to build hit the cap at 1 000 000 and that had 2 giant rivers going through it and no neighboring cities. (All the industry was concentrated inside the same city tile as the residential)

My highest population on a Large City was 1.3 million people.

Highest population on a medium tile was 410K people

Highest population on a small tile was 310K people (test how many people I could fit in a small tile).

But this was before I started all over again.

My record on a 4x4 region is 11.7 millions and on a large tile is 1.9 million. Right now the region (also 4x4) I am playing on has a pop of 9.2 million and my biggest citytile has 1.7 million. There's still a lot of room to build on.

Largest population + largest population on a large tile (of which 2/3 is water): 216.819

Largest population on a medium tile: 4.261 (I don't have a lot of medium tiles in my region, as you can see)

Largest population on a small tile: 12.144

I don't really care about population. How it looks is more important. Region population is 932.136

I never really get cities with very high populations usually because I get bored of a certain region and start a new one.  Or sometimes when my cities get too big they just become too slow to play.  That being said my largest city was about 150,000.
I try to keep them no more than that (until I get a better computer)  :P

Some records from me:

Largest population, overall: 875 000 (Schellingen-Mitte, Schellingen-Stadt)

I also agree, a aesthetically pleasing city is more important to me than its population.  Once you start building cities with 1,000,000+ inhabitants it's rather difficult to prevent repetitiveness, even with a good deal of custom content.  But to each their own!

I built a city of 160,000 on a medium sized tile, and only used half of it due to a very large industrial district on the north side of the city. It was all high density. Right now, I'm building a city on a large tile and I've already used more than half of the space, but it has gotten only to 145,000, probably due to my use of different densities and the two rivers running through it, thus less space.

750,000 for me.  I did not use all, but most of a large tile.  There were more skyscrapers there than I had ever seen, but it was still a good looking skyline.

Architecture>height.  Always.

Sedona with 2,235,125 exactly C:

Without mods, the largest was Sedona (too) with 1'194'410, when I used mods it dropped down to 900k before climbing back up with -certain- buildings. :>

458,577 - largest city, mostly finished, never ended up finishing the region (the core city got corrupted, kind of destroyed my plans for it). Lots of mods though; NAM, the usual suspects, this particular city was in the New York-style so lots of NYBT content. Maybe I'll finish re-zoning it to all high-density, see what happens.....
