this actualy does look more like a hockey stadium. but maybe a retractable roof or a glass dome, so it doesn't rain...wait a min, it doesn't rain in simcity anyways lol. roof or not, this will sill look great!

Acctually i had just finished dressing up the inside last night JT adding opening and box seats and stuff aswell as making the nessecary changes for hockey. but unfortunetly i woke up this morning to find that the stupid cad file is corrupt. So i went to the back up and it was corrupt aswell. The good news is i did find a back up but its along ways back so this is going to set me back alittle bit. As for the sport you know its a tough call becuase there are 2 sports we have to much of in simcity already and thats baseball and soccer, so hockey and basketball are more attactive. The roof however eleminates those 2 sports so i think i need to find another sport. Perhaps arena foot ball? It isnt a really large sport, but it would fit in this arena and the open roof wouldnt cause to many problems. As for the texture of the ground its really not as bland as you think. Check this pic

Ok so perhaps its alittle bit bland but i like it and anyways show me a real life side walk that has even this much detail for such a large area. Ohwell anyways im off to cad now.

Well I have another couple of suggestions. First in these olympic days how about sports like
volleyball, beach volleyball or you could make it a velodrome for cykling. There are many ideas at the official olympic site (www.athens2004.com)

Another idea is maybe it could be an multi purpose arena, in that case there are several non sporting things you could put in the middle such as a stage for music conserts etc.

Ok im extremely close to finishing the modeling now. I redid the stuff i lost in the cad file and it turned out even better.

Well, if this is going to be a hockey arena, then the cloth top should not be so transparent, then, unless it is a special waterproof cloth, that has transparency, so NVM then. Oh, and same thing for the hole. if anything, a nice mini-glass done would be great to cap the hold. An extraordinary job, though!

this has got to be the most amazing lot ever...excellent job, cannot wait to download...btw, how will this actually function? Will it raise residential demand somewhat and commercial demand substantially? And, also, how many jobs will it provide?

Great choice for sport, btw, if anyone remembers, there is already a basketball arena on the bex (I forget what it is called tho)...

and for those wanting a football stadium, check out the bat request thread, I made a post today about a trio of philadelphia stadiums, one including the new football stadium...all I can say is if Joerg did this good with nothing to copy from or anything, imagine how good lincoln financial field will look... (drools)

DM im sorry but i doubt i will fill either of those requests mostly becuase ive put so much time into the inner arena. I completely agree with the changes from a realistic point of view, but for Simcity many aspects of realism have been sacrificed for the fun and beauty of the game and this will simply have to be one of them. Anyhow i talked to DM and he too agrees that perhaps the paths should get a new texture one with more wear and tear aswell as a more defined pattern so im beggining work on that tonight. Also if done alittle with night lighting although its proving to be very dificult considering the lack of a preview funtion in bat for 3ds. However the time saved by sticking with 3ds will be tremendous as the poly count continues to climb.

Looks awesome Joerg!  Too bad you made a ice-hockey stadium though... I would have prefered soccer. But you can't please everyone  I think you've done a great job, and it is a lot better than your other stadium!  Just one question... is there a main entrance somewhere? It seems from here it's symmetrical, with no specific entrance...

I think it would be perfectly acceptable to put a laticed glass window on the top of that circle in the canopy. Make it transparent like 90% or something, so we can still see through it just as easily.

I love the landscaping! It's incredible. Perhaps you could place some lamp posts and benches on the conrete walks.

This really is a wonderful creation. It makes me laugh when I read people complaining about the texture of the path (although you've done a great job of rendering it). All stadiums are new and prestine at some point and if there's a big event on you can guarantee that the groundsmen will make the place look great - hence a very fresh, unused landscape.

Ok well the suggestions keep coming and so do the improvements so without further words i give you a pictures even closer to completion with rain cap and all.

Also notice the little fountains each representing s sport played in the arena. Arena FootBall, Basket Ball, Soccer, and Hockey. Also im very happy with the way the little covering turned out in the middle. The covering would be retractible in real life and fully capable of opening up to its previous beauty. I think the blue really kind of pulls you in. and i like that.

 

I need a better hockey rink texture so if anyone can find one i would be very happy. Also I dont think SunDome will cut it anymore. So i need suggestions for a name. Right now im thinking it looks like a human eye so maybe something to do with the eye would be cool.

What I mean of bland is -the lack of patterns or something.  Not the lack of dirt and potholes.

Just calling it the eye dome would be to simple. Also as for the paths they have a realistic tile pattern its just not vissible in a picture this small. I checked out dictionary.com and i think that perhaps the Ocular Dome would be a cool name. It sounds different and most people wouldnt immediatly relate it to an eyeball so it would be a hidden meaning behind it.

 

Oh and JTportland i keep forgetting to ansewer your bump mapping questions so i will now. First off yes there is bumpmapping infact i have about 10 bump textures on this model. Unfortunetly bump mapping doesnt work with the gmax bat however gmax is capable of doing bump. The 3ds bat though can do bump maps just fine.

 

Anyways im probably going to do a test render today.
