Project Sun Dome (3ds expirementation)

Well its been awhile sense ive done anything with bat worth showing here, but a few hours ago i began work on alittle something ive named project Sun Dome. Its going to be a massive multi purpose arena utilizing all the great tools of 3ds max. Im just learning max so alot of help would be great. Anyways the arena is going to be fairly large probably about 10x10 as it is right now with a capacity of about 18,000 sims.

 

Anyways here is a very early pic.

I need alot of suggestions for this because im really not sure where im going to go with the base aswell as a few other things.

wow, that is an amazing building. It looks like it could be a modern for of the Coliseum in Greece.

looks cool! is that a bump map for the white part? for some suggestions, i'm not too crazy about the rustic looking supports, maybe something more metallic? also, to make this look moreintresting, you should make more support wires, like 3 wires per post, so there are wires crossing eachother, that would look really cool!

Hmm.... i've seen a real building in life like this... but I can't remember where.... sorta reminds me of the Melenium Dome in London, UK... 

 

maybe try making X's to connect the posts like this:   post --> |X| 

and like a big glass entrance on one side that comes out of the building?

Ok well I went ahead and added full seating today measuing in at aproximately 12,000 seats placed in cad but im guessing in real life the seats should have been a bit smaller making room for a few thousand more. Also i added a soccer field to the middle but it seems very out of place so i think i will maybe place a basketball court in as a replacement.

 

Anyways here are some pics first is a pic showing the seating in detail before i recolored everything.

Next up a view with the roof take off.

And lastly a view from SC4s crappy angle.

Sense i did all the modeling of the seats i decided to make the roof transparent. Also i changed the colors abit. As for the base im still puzzeled it feels like i need somethign for a base and entrance but i have no idea what im going to do.  Right now the arena is above and under ground to accomodate the seating so if i need to i can raise the building up for a base. Also remember none of this is really for finale sc4 renders, infact ive not even been able to successfully render a building in 3ds yet.

Wow only 8 posts still i really figured there would be more considering all the attention the beijing stadium is getting as it nears its 12th page. Ohwell anywho here is another pic as i come closer to completing this massive stadium.

Its hard to see in this small pic some of the details (original render 3200x2400). Almost everything is bump mapped. Also all the seats are in place and there is a frame work under the cannopy plus right now there is a basketball court in the stadium.  I think the entrances came out well and im pretty happy with the area around the stadium wich should fit perfectly on a 15x15 lot i think thats the size it was anyways.

 

Also to any 3ds users out there that would be willing to render this that would be great i only ask becuase for some reason i cant get the 3ds bat to render properly. Also on a side note i cant seem to preview night lighting either.

Im not sure what else i can add to the path i would love to be able to put a bunch of people around the stadium, but i need some very low poly models. Anyone know of any simple people models preferably made like the maxis trees are with 2 intersection planes. Also should i go for a specific color at night or just light things up with mostly white.

 

Also i need to figure out what sport they sould be playing in the stadium. I think that i can have basket ball, arena foot ball, soccer maybe, boxing, tennis, volleyball, wrestling, or swiming. I will only do one though so choose wisely and i need to know soon what you guys want.

Hockey or boxing they are the best choice i think because we have a lot of soccer and football stadium.

I would say football. there is no football (American) in SC4. The base looks perfect. Excellent Job Joerg!

I'd say American football, there are at least 2 soccer stadiums on the STEX, not to mention the one in-game.

Well how about i just produce another foot ball stadium in the near future. Im just afraid this stadium isnt big enough to be a football stadium with only 12000 some odd seats it would be pretty small. So the choices are hockey and basket ball. And becuase i want to respect the canadian neighbors i think that hockey would be my favorite choice, also it saves me to the trouble of making a basket ball goal.

This stadium is simply awesome. Together with a good landscape planning, this will be a extraordinary addition to the game. Except for few masters of BAT , we all wish we could accomplish as much as you do !!!

No matter what you put inside it (personally, I'd prefer hockey), make sure you cover up that hole in the roof.  Maybe a glass skylight? I don't think the players would apreciate being rained on.

The stadium is breath-taking! You asked what sport should be in your stadium, well I think wrestling should be the sport my opinion - it seems to be the right size stadium, maybe like WWE? My Sims and I enjoy your creations!!

Ah, now here arises the problem. any sport like Hockey, b-ball, wrestling, boxing will not play in a stadium with an open roof. (unless the city is in death valley, CA). so, you have to make it an outdoor sport. Try base ball, it's the right size stadium, and its a global sport!

also, i noticed that there are no places for sims to go in and out from the stands, ya know, like a door way thing to the outside of the stadium. im not sure if you want to take the time do fix this, just because it's not that noticeable in the first place. looks amazing either way!

also i think this should be a soccer field, unless you want to make some kind of cover thing for the open hole, because you can still play soccer if its raining, but if it rains and it's basketball? or hockey? i think u know what i mean and who cares if there anrn't enough seats! this might be too many seats if the stadium were built in US, because i don't think soccer is that popular here haha.

I think hockey would be a great idea; btw, the metropolitan Arcturus area (New Phoenix, Arcturus, Rivell Heights) is planning to make a bid for the 2014 Olympics. The Sundome will be an excellent hockey arena.

will you be changing the texture of the ground around the stadium?  Cause it looks to be a bit bland...
