Navigating the LEX (Navigation Category Definitions)

The STEX (ST) is pretty easy to understand as there are very few sections to search: 3ds Models, Buildings (BAT), Lots, Maps, Props, Textures, Mods & Tools.  The PLEX (simpeg site) is quite different but even though the acronyms are not obvious, clicking them always opens a description page to explain.  The LEX, however, has the most easy to browse categories and while they are mostly easy to understand, there are a few that still elude me (even after searching for definitions on the sc4d site).  There is amazing content found at all 3, as well as some other sites out there that I'm still finding out about.

Does anyone know the definition of the category headers below marked in Red text?  Appreciate any help.  Thx!

Appreciate any help with the Red ones above. Thx!

EDIT: Thanks to infamousjbe, Indiana Joe, z1, catty-cb for helping answer the questions. Clarified categories are now shown in Green instead of red above.

The only one I could possibly help with is Reward BTE. Usually means the bat is tracked towards BTE reward type bats.

It seems that over the years, certain BSC bats were released as parts of a rewards chain, that only become available after completing some prerequisites. It was probably done to increase the fun factor that comes along with earning a new reward/landmark.

Though I didn't now it at the time, Simgoober's Chruch Pack acts like a rewards based release. Only allowing me to build a certain religious building once I've hit the right benchmarks.

I've always wondered what the SF was for as well.

One other note that really isn't a huge deal, but I think MEGAs are not any single building that takes up large real estate, but rather a collection of buildings over the large area. In fact just had one pop up on my industrial island. Believe it was something like a 10x12

First of all, the LEX has it's own set of forums for questions about it--SC4Devotion.   ;)

But anyway, "SF" stands for Slope-Friendly.  As in they look good on steep hills.

There are two types of SC4 maps:  ones that come as a Terraformer/Mapper file, and the ones that come the old-fashioned way with greyscale JPEG images that are rendered in-game.

infamousjbe just answered the one about BTE, and I'm not positive about "BSC Compliant."  I'll get back to you on that if I figure it out, if no one else knows.

EDIT: as far as I can tell, it seems that the BSC team simply has their own category for a huge set of parks they made.

  • To add to what's been said, "BTE" stands for "BSC Tracking Enabled".

What exactly is a 'BSC Tracking Enabled' lot anyway?  And how can I use it?  Its not Transit Enabled. What's the track?

I believe BSC is a group of elite content creation experts that tend to provide quality stuff that they post mostly on the SC4d site (LEX).

It means that the lot is part of a chain of lots that lead to certain BSC award lots.

There are also specific lots where you can check the number of tracking-enabled lots that you have in the current city in their query.

I used quite a few of these tracking-enabled in my last region. There were certainly lots of messages springing up during play :D. It could get a bit hectic, though. I was thinking whether it's worth to remove the rewards dependency from some of the lots that I liked in some cities, but not in others.

Can all of us load both types of maps easily into our game, is it more difficult, or a different process to load each?

What is the way to use these?  Must all of them be downloaded and added to be properly used?  If you are missing one, perhaps it would be in the middle of the chain and break the chain?  Are they just extra buildings that you must "earn", or is there something else behind the BTE system?

Are you suggesting it is possible to remove the requirements by not loading a certain BTE file and just use the buildings anytime? If you happen to find the lot that shows how many BTE lots are in the current city, id be interested to see that, or at least a screen capture. Thx.

A quote of the description of the Baltic Flour Mill on the LEX should answer at least most of your questions:

The Baltic Flour Mill is a 5x5 reward which will bring new manufacturing opportunities to your farming communities or further enhance an already developed industrial economy. If you grow 5 or more BSC BTE wheat farms then your city will soon be in need of somewhere to grind this wheat into flour. If farming is not your thing, then the Mill can also be obtained by a city with12 or more industrial BSC BTE bakeries, such as the Breadline, Flour Power or Porkie's Pies Factories. As well as hosting 47 manufacturing jobs, the mill will also provide a boost in I-M demand.

I suggested modding the rewards out. It was fun for a while, but I noticed that my cities started to all look the same after a while, because some of the rewards buildings are quite prominent. There are lots of very nice buildings in the chains, though, and it's worth playing with them as intended for some time.

The building that displays BTE rewards lots is the BTE Retail Traders Association. It's a reward building by itself :D, but easy to get.

        REGIONAL NIGHT VIEW MOD
At long last, after a long time, I have finally made a mod that allows you to view your regions at night! After a long time of searching, turns out there's a hidden option maxis meant to implement in the SimCity_1.Dat file that allows regional night view!
When you save a city, SC4 generates an image of the city that can be viewed in regional night view. This mod unlocks a hidden option that Maxis removed in the game's development that allows night mode in the region view. The game actually saves the nightlights already even without this mod believe it or not, just not at night. Now you can finally see night mode! I had to make the night view atmosphere manually using the DAT files and based it off SimFox Day'nite mod to match the mayor mode night view since all cool kids now'days are using it

        How to Install:
You must follow these steps EXACTLY as below in order for this mod to properly work!!!
        1. Unpack ONLY .dat files to the plugins folder
        2. Unpack the DDS Saver Updater Mc-thingy.dll file into the Programs/Maxis/SimCity 4/Plugins Folder
        3. Copy the DDS Files to to the same place as step 2
        4. Also copy the .dds files to your plugins folder in My Documents while you're at it
        5. Once finished, start the game.
        6. You should see a new button on the regional view simniliar to the day/night on mayor mode panel! Once you see it, click on it and you can switch to a realistic nightview!
In order to see nightlights, load up one of your cities (or civilized areas of your region!). In mayor mode, switch to day view then night view until all city lights are on. THEN save the game and exit to region. You MUST have it switched to night when you save. The reason for this is because of the way SC4 saves region files. Repeat for all cities. To switch back to daylight, follow the same procedure as previously stated but with day view instead of night view
Now you must have SimFox Day n' Nite installed since I had to manually create the night view on the region that matches city view too. You won't see nightlights immediately though.
        7. Please refer to the troubleshooting manual in my  read me if you encounter any issues as it is highly imperative proper installation procedures are followed or cities may be corrupted, forever.
It's likely they removed this feature because of the game's limitation of having to save every city and exit out in night mode, hence why they left it as day time.
        Bugs/Possible issues
-At the moment, this mod only works on Windows. Tried installing this on a mac but it crashed then exploded (possibly for an unrelated reason)
        -Possible artifacts from Maxis
        -Requires EP1 update to work
-It can get quite tedious saving every individual city in your region but boy it's worth it! Best part? If you want to switch back to day time, all you have to do is go back and save EVERY single city again but with day mode this time! Isn't that great?!
-Likewise you also need update 1.1.640 for this mod to work
-For months, I couldn't figure out how to get the UI to show up consistently. Give this mod a little time. It'll warm up to ya.
-Occasional instability and slow FPS in night mode.
-One time I used this mod to take pics of my region for my city journal! It's time I share with you...my genius!
-Likely possibility of this mod not working if instructions are not followed correctly!
'Tis the season for Christmas, this mod is compatible with snow mod terrain and also compatible with NAM, CAM, SPAM, FLAM, JAM, DAM, DiaphRAM, etc.
-Sometimes, the game crashes and corrupts all city files with this mod when taking screenshots. Must be another game limitation. Taking a screenshot with my iphone or samsung crashes the phone and the game.

        DEPENDENCIES:
        -SimFox's Day/nite Mod
-SimCity 4 Rush Hour or Deluxe with EP1 or 1.1.640 update
        -A Working Windows PC
-Working internet to show off your wonderful regional night views!

My other issue with Ag is this... I installed the SPAM, then a few SPAM addons, then some of the SimGoober crops, because they're more colorful (if they would grow... see above). Well, the next thing I know, I'm getting a rewards dialog box w/ my environmental advisor about a CSX ag co-op... but when I click on the hyperlink in the rewards dialog box, the arrow just turns red, it doesn't show the outline of a building underneath the arrow (like it does when it works right.) and there's nothing for me to plop. Okay.

So I went out and found the files I thought were the rewards files for the CSX, including the Co-op. (I say "think" because the name isn't exact but very similar.) These files. But I STILL have the same issue when I get the reward dialog box. No reward building when I click on the hyperlink. Not in the reward menu either.
Funny thing is... I definitely hadn't installed a rewards mod for that co-op before getting the reward dialog box. (Yes, I know, this sound implausible, but I was shocked when I saw it the first time, because I hadn't installed anything that would bring it up but some SimGoober I-Ag fields.) So I figured it was built into the SG files.
So then I went out, found the rewards mod that supposedly went with the CSX ag co-op, thinking maybe I need all the files to make it work right... and I'm STILL not able to plop the reward building. (Note, I'm trying to figure out which files those were, and maybe I'm misremembering? Here's a listing of all the ag-related BTE files I have.) So I've got farm files, the farm field dependencies, and the rewards files. That should be all I need, right?

The problem is, I found out about all of this via searching for buildings on the STEX instead of some kind of nice tutorial or omnibus file spelling out all of this in detail, so I’ve had to figure things out in a very roundabout manner because I couldn't' find something that spells it all out. (Forgive me if I’m not fully getting it right.) I’m pretty sure all of these are BSC/BTE enabled. (Like, that’s the mechanism that makes all of this work, right?) I’ve installed a few other BTE reward files (like the bakery)… I don’t think I’ve ever gotten the reward. (I know for a fact I have the Shottesbrook Winery installed and I’ve never gotten it as a reward yet, even though I have massive ag cities. I just assumed it might have to do with the fact that I mainly seem to grow SPAM fields, and possibly having to do with the fact that my SG/BTE fields don’t get crops? (See my other thread .) Am I zoning the fields wrong? Am I supposed to be holding down Ctrl (on a Mac) so it has directional arrows? Am I NOT supposed to be holding it down so it's a free field of I-Ag? (I've done both.)
(And, yes, this is a lot of troubleshooting for a co-op I didn't even try to earn and didn't necessarily even want from the start.)
Anyway, sorry if this is all a mess. It’s kinda a mess to me and confusing, which is why I even hesitated to bring it up for so long. (Is there someplace that spells all this out simply and easily from the start? I've read this thread which helped some but didn't really give me all the basics and I did read the SPAM documentation 2-3x in its entirety so I get the SPAM and how it works… for the most part.)

Hey all - looking for some BAT suggestions to beef up my collection of late-stage growables, specifically R and C and 2X3, 3X3, 2X4, 3X4, 4X4, etc type lots. Towers, tenements, and commercial services, oh my!   Mid-rises and other dynamic shapes welcome too.

        Hello,
Dependency tracker speeds up mod download, so LEX added dependency tracker since 2013 and getting better with more mods compatible with the system. This isn't case for STEX. STEX, which is using Files module included within IPS is hard to mod. Even, the staff has rejected the idea due to lack of developers. There are questions:
We need something can code sites. Are we ready to recruit some? Is using wrapper ideal? Thanks.
